45. Chapter 45 : Drag Queen?

Helen's POV

Later that day, Dad told me he was going to a business meeting in Sacramento. Adin's father works in the same business as my Dad so they'd both be going together. As for Adin's mother, she is at the spa resort the whole day. Our parents knew about Rebel's Race. They also knew Adin and I both participated at least once.

We got grounded for two months for that.

Now, with both of our folks gone, we'd be able to go to the race with no worry. I grabbed my phone and car keys before walking down the stairs. Calum's ringtone went off.

"Hello," I answered.

"Hey babe," he said.

"Hey! How are you?" I asked.

"Swell, you?"

"Okay, I guess," I replied.

"You guess?" He asked.

I heard honking outside my house. I went to the window and saw Adin's car sitting in the driveway. He kept on honking. "Hemmings lets go!" He shouted.

"Who was that?" Calum asked.

"Adin," I replied.

"Are you going somewhere?" He asked.

"Yea, I'm going to," I paused. I obviously wasn't going to tell Calum about Rebel's Racing. He'd probably get pissed off. "I'm going out to see a movie," I ended.

"What movie?" he asked.

"Jurassic World, maybe, even though I've already seen it three times," I laughed.

"Blue is everything," Calum said.

"HE IS! I love him so much! And Chris Pratt looked SO GOOD," I fangirled as I went into the garage and towards my car.

'You know I'm here right?" He asked.

"You know he has a wife, right?" I continued.

"Why do I keep up with you?"

"Because you love me," I smiled. I put the key in the ignition and the engine purred to life. Once the garage door was open, I balanced my phone between my shoulder and ear, moved the stick shift to number one and slowly rolled out of the garage.

"I do," Calum agreed.

"But hey Calum, I've got to go cause I can't talk and drive, so I'll call you tomorrow," I said.

"Bye darling, have fun and take care."

"You too, love you. Bye," I hung up and drove up next to Adin.

"Who were you talking to?" He asked.

"Calum," I replied.

"Did you tell him about the race?" He asked.

"Hell no, he'd get pissed off," I replied.

The garage door closed once again and Adin sped out of the driveway and onto the street. I followed.

Night had already fallen upon us. These races always occurred at night, when the best of a person comes out to take over. We met with Charlize and a few of the girls on the way to the desert. She was behind the wheel of her grey Jeep with Katie in the passenger seat. Brianna drove her BMW with Taylor, Alyssa, Sarah and Madison.

There were four other cars around us, taking the sandy road to 4 Rebel's Race. The dark velvet sheet that was the sky was sprinkled with stars as far as the human eye can see. The crescent moon accompanied the stars. It was bright and beautiful.

I blasted PVRIS and kept my eyes on the road. I soon saw a row of cars line up, followed by the headlights of each car illuminating the racetrack. We had arrived. I followed Adin's car until he parked next to a silver car. I parked next to him as well.

After getting out and standing by Adin's side, waiting for the rest of the girls. The crowd cheered and hollered as a race was already in the process. "Didn't think you'd make it," Madison said once she got to me.

"Definitely wouldn't miss Rebel's Race," I added.

We joined the crowd who was watching the race. The two cars were racing to the finish line. The engines growled as the drivers gained speed for the final meters. The cars shot past us and threw a gust of wind towards the crowd who cheered wildly.

After passing the finish line the checkered flag was waved in the midst of car's lights. The drivers slowed to a stop and the the girl who held the checkered flag walked over to the drivers.

The crowd huddled around the two who waited to see who would be crowned victorious.

The girl held up the hand of the winner. One and only Caleb King. The crowd erupted into cheers.

"What a great way to start 4 Rebel's Race, am I right?" Caleb said. The crowd agreed. "10 years ago, our founding fathers of 4 Rebel's Race came together in this exact spot to do what they loved most. Racing. They did it not planning to stop racing just because people think it's dangerous. Here's to the Blaze brothers. Here's to not giving a fuck!"

"Here's to not giving a fuck!" We all repeated.

Caleb locked eyes with me. He smiled wickedly.

"Do my eyes deceive me? Or is that the one and only Helen Hemmings," Caleb said.

The crowd turned toward me.

"Here for a rematch?" Caleb asked.

"Not racing anymore," I replied.

"Finally give up?" he asked.

"Just not doing it anymore."

"Ah and I see you have your car here as well, looks like you're here to race."

"I'm not," I gritted my teeth.

"Afraid of losing?"

Last year, I raced with Caleb and lost. I demanded a rematch and I won the second time. He has hated me ever since.

"I beat you once, I can do it again," I said confidently.

"We'll see about that. Meet you at the starting line in 5 minutes," Caleb said.

What did I just get myself into?
