4. Chapter 4 : Revolution

Helen's POV

My alarm clock brought me out of my sleep.

I groaned and tapped my screen to stop the annoying noise.

I blinked a couple of times to get my brain to start functioning.

The green icon on my phone told me I got a text.

I clicked on it and it was a text from Calum.

Calum: Good morning babe. I hope you're reading this when you wake up, but just wanted to remind you that I love you and I hope you have a great day at school. Don't take any crap from anyone and if someone pisses you off, punch them in the face. I'm just kidding, just ignore them. I love you so much Helen.

I smiled.

Me: thank you for the message, Cal. I needed it. I love you too and hope you have an awesome show. Call me later, if you have time

I pushed myself off the bed and got up. After getting dressed, I went into the bathroom and combed my hair before brushing my teeth.

I washed my face with cold water.

After that I went downstairs.

I ate Life cereal and stared blankly into space.

"Helen, I have to go to work," Mom said.

"Then who's gonna take me to school?" I asked.

"Take Luke's car," he replied.

I nearly choked on my cereal.

"Seriously? What if I crash it?" I asked.

"You won't crash it, your father says you're a wonderful driver," She replied.

I bit my lip. Not sure about a wonderful driver. Luke is better at driving than me.

"See you in the afternoon, sweetheart, have a great day," She said and pecked my cheek before rushing out the door.

"You too!" I called just before she closed the door behind her.

I huffed and started making a game plan in my brain on how to play my day off at school. Without the guys with me, I have no one to talk to.

I pushed the thought out of my brain and turned the TV off. I grabbed my black backpack and Luke's car keys.

I walked out the door and locked it behind me.

The morning sun rays gracefully touched down the ground.

I slipped on my sunglasses and went to Luke's black car. I unlocked it and threw my backpack in the passenger's seat.

After putting the key in the ignition and turning the engine on, I slowly backed out of the driveway.

It was weird driving a car that wasn't stick shift. My foot always went to the clutch even though it wasn't there and my hand tried to grab the gear shift to put it on a certain number, but it wasn't there either.

I huffed in annoyance and turned the radio on and 'Centuries' by Fall Out Boy blared through the speakers through the speakers.

"Finally a good song!" I shouted to myself and continued to drive.

After the song ended I arrived in the school parking lot, I got a spot and grabbed my backpack before getting out.

I closed the door and locked it. The lot had students buzzing around it. The football players were leaning against their sports cars and flirting with the cheerleaders.

I saw Travis among them and rolled my eyes.

The bell rang shortly after and I made my way towards the school's doors.

I walked in and went to my locker. I grabbed my English book before slamming it shut.

I removed my sunglasses and put them in my bag.

My Converse moved across the school's tiles as I went to my class.

I opened the door and walked in.

"Well, well, look who comes in. And all alone," Ms. Dawn said.

I ignored her and went to my seat in the back of the class.

I looked to my left and Luke's seat was empty. I kept on expecting for the boys to walk in.

They aren't coming, Helen, I told myself, Get that through your damn head!

"Where's your twin and your friends?" Ms. Dawn asked coldly.

"Obviously not here," I replied.

"Don't give me attitude or I'll send you to the office," She said.

I extended my arms "I wasn't-oh my god!" If I continue to talk, I'd land myself in the office, yet again.

Students started filling in the classroom and soon the class was full and all the seats were taken. Except the boys'.

Ms. Dawn started her boring lecture and even though I wasn't paying attention, I knew what she was taking about.

I was busy staring out the window.

Birds flew in the sky and I saw people walking their dogs on the street.

"Helen."

I looked away from the window and turned my attention to the front of the class. Everyone was staring at me.

"Yes?" I asked through gritted teeth.

"Do you know where this quote came from?" Ms. Dawn asked and motioned to the whiteboard.

The board read, "They don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy."

I thought hard and finally it came to me.

"To Kill A Mockingbird," I replied.

"Correct," Ms. Dawn said. I heard the annoyance in her voice. She expected me to get it wrong.

I rolled my eyes.

And finally after 50 miserable minutes, the bell rang to second period.

I grabbed my stuff and went to my next class, which was chemistry.

I pushed past the crowd of people and managed to get to my class.

Mr. Potter was one of my favorite teachers. He was chill and funny.

Michael and I always had a good laugh when it was a lab day.

I jumped up on the metal stool and pulled my notebook out.

Once the bell rang Mr. Potter started class.

"Okay, everyone, today, we'll be doing a simple chemical reaction. Baking soda and vinegar, but first roll call."

He started calling off names.

"Michael Clifford?" He asked.

"He's not here," I replied.

"Oh darn, I really like Mr. Clifford's colorful hair," He said.

I laughed.

I grabbed my lunch and looked around the cafeteria.

I saw that our old table was still open, so I rushed towards it. I set my lunch on the table and sat. I had a view of the whole chaos that was in front of me.

I chewed on baby carrots and was bobbing my head to 'Ballad of Mona Lisa' by Panic! At The Disco, when I saw Venus walk into the cafeteria.

She went to Rebecca's table, but was shut off. I took a earbud out.

Rebecca got up and was in Venus' face.

The whole room went silent.

"You're not welcome here anymore," Rebecca said.

"Why?" Venus asked.

"Because you've been getting annoying lately and I've had enough of you. Also you betrayed our friendship, I specifically told you not to-" Rebecca stopped talking when she saw me looking directly at her.

I narrowed my eyes.

"Point is, you are no longer my friend and you can't sit with us. Go get new friends," She said, flipped her hair and sat back down.

"You know you can go sit with the emo freaks over there," One of Rebecca's minions said, "You always talk about listening to that heavy-metal band Green Something."

She talking about Green Day.

Venus ran out the cafeteria and Rebecca's minion sat back down, a smile of victory on her face.

I laughed loudly like a crazy person.

Everyone stared at me.

"Oh my god!" I got up. "If you think that Green Day is heavy metal, I really want to see your reaction when you listen to actual heavy metal."

I laughed a little more and wiped imaginary tears from my eyes.

"You know you should really leave that girl alone, just because Venus told you that I seem nice and that you shouldn't talk to Calum doesn't mean you need to give her the cold shoulder. She's right about one thing, you shouldn't talk to Calum."

I walked around my table and pulled my phone out.

"Didn't think you'd get any more bitchy, but guess what? You did. Enjoy this," I blasted 'American Idiot' by Green Day and walked out the doors.

I started searching for Venus and I found her weeping by a tree.

"You know, I'm not used to comforting people while crying, so cut me some slack," I say.

She looked up, "I'm sorry. I just really liked Rebecca, as a friend of course. She took me under her wing when I first arrived here."

"Well that was the past and now she's treating you like you're a piece of shit. Which you aren't, so prove her wrong," I said.

"How?" She sniffled.

"For starters, stop crying, not trying to be mean, but if she sees you crying she'll know that she's getting to you. Don't let her have that power."

She got up and wiped her tears.

"Ready?" I asked.

She took a deep breath and nodded.

I smiled slightly and started making my way back to the cafeteria.

We walked in and heads turned. Some had their jaws slightly dropped.

I sat at my table and Venus joined me.

"Why the fuck are you all staring?" I asked at the group of students that were looking at us.

I shook my head, annoyed

"How are you so brave?" Venus asked.

"I'm not, just annoyed," I replied and bit my apple.

I gave Venus my lunch and she gladly munched it down.

"You like Green Day?" I asked.

"Yea! I love them!" She exclaimed.

I nodded in approval

"Thank you," She said.

"For what?" I asked.

"For saying and doing something I'd never have the guts to do," She replied.

I shrugged, "I've been through it and didn't want someone else to go through the same pain I went through."

"Where is Calum and Luke and the rest of them?"

"Out of town," I replied.

"When will they be back?"

"I don't know," I replied.

But I did know. I really did know that they'd be back in six months.
