4. Finding new hope

Mark and Jacky were at the front door. Looking at each other in awe, they knocked on the door three times. No one answered. They knocked again still no answer. Mark tried to open the door and it swung open with a loud screech. "Hello? Is anyone home?" Mark yelled.

There was no reply. The only sound that was in the house was the sound of the wind blowing the curtains and the chandelier. There were spider webs everywhere, everywhere they looked, there was dust, spider webs, spiders themselves. Nothing was clean in the house. The house was exactly the same size as when they first got there. Then, all of a sudden, a voice from the shadows said, "You are not suppose to be here." The voice was an older and more deeper voice.

"I'm sorry to intrude. But we are looking for someone. We were wondering if you knew..." Jacky said with fright.

"Who ever you are looking for is not here. Leave."

"We knew a guy that lived in this very house but we don't know is he lives here or if we are to far back in his time line." Mark said looking around.

"What is the man's name whom you are looking for?"

"John Marcos." Mark said.

"I have a grandson by that name. Why are you looking for him?"

"How old is he?"

"He is merely a boy at the age 3. Who are you?"

"This might sound really strange but we are from the future. The year 2132."

"How is that possible? Is time travel common in your year?"

"No, but we were part of an experiment which brought us here."

"My experiment works? How? The year 2132? What is your names?"

"I'm Mark. This is Jacky."

"Hello." Jacky said not knowing where the sound was coming from.

"I apologize for my rudeness earlier. I was just working on the machine but it is not working."

"I guess we can't go home yet." Jacky said sadly.

"You guys can stay as long as you like.  I understand how it is to not be able to get home."

The man came out of the shadows. The man had a long, white beard with green eyes. He was in a wheelchair. "Would you mind helping me with some stuff. I has recently put in this darn thing and I can't do much anymore."

"Of course." Mark said.

Mark and Jacky followed the man to the big white doors that was cover in dust. "What is your name? We never did ask?"

"My name is Charlie Marcos."

"It's very nice to meet you. What do you need help with?"

"I need help with getting a few tools of mine. I put them originally on a shelf that I knew I could reach, but now, as you can see. I can't reach it anymore."

"Okay. Do you need all of them?" Mark asked.

"If you don't mind."

Mark grabbed all of the tools. He looked back on the shelf to see if there was any more. He saw a shadow on the shelf but didn't see any other tools. "That's odd." he said.

"What's going on?" Jacky asked walking over to him.

"It looks like a shadow of a tool but there are more tools on the shelf." Mark and Jacky looked at each other with a frighten look on their faces.

"I can't reach the screw!" Charlie yelled.

A loud crash echoed through the house. Mark and Jacky looked around and saw that he fell over . He hit is head on the metal bar that was laying on the floor. "Charlie!." Jacky yelled running over to him.

He was laying there motionless. Mark and Jacky tried to wake him up, but he was already gone. "Who's going to finish the machine?" Jacky said starting to cry.

"We need to contact his son." Mark said.

Mark got up and walked to the desk in the corner of the room. There were papers everywhere. They all were blank. Then Mark saw a small, brown book with pages torn on the edges. Mark opened where the bookmark was. There was a name, Sam Marcos, and there was a phone number on the bottom. Mark grabbed his cell phone out of his pocket. The phone was fried. Marked looked down and shook his head. He looked up and saw a telephone on the wall. He walked over to it and dialed the number. The phone was ringing. In the back ground, there was a figure of a man in the shadows. Jacky looked up and saw it. The blinked to make sure it was real. When she opened her eyes after only blinking once, the being was gone. "Yes, hello. My name is Mark Peter. Is this Sam Marcos?"

On the other side of the line a man said, "Yes. How did you get this number?"

"I'm with your father right now. I'm sorry to tell you that he is gone."

"Gone? What do you mean gone?"

"Your father's dead. I'm sorry. He told me to tell you to finish his work."

"Ha. Finish his work. He would never tell anyone to finish his work. If it not done, then it will never be done. Thank you for telling me that he's gone. I really appreciate it. I'll be there in a couple minutes to..." Sam hung up the phone.

"What did he say? Is he going to finish it?" Jacky asked walking to him.

"He's not going to finish it. He'll be here in a few minutes to see him."

"Should we move him?"

"No. Sam needs to see him as he was when he died."

"Sam? Is that Charlie's son?"

"Yes. He says that he will not finish it because Charlie never asked him to."

"But he's dead now, how are we going to get home?"

"I'm not sure. We'll have to talk to Sam about this."

"How do you know he will believe us? Charlie only believed us because that is what he has been working on."

"I don't. I just hoping."
