6. Chapter 6

I was half expecting Lucas to take us to a little thrift store but instead, I find myself staring up at a two-story brick mall. It’s not like I haven’t been to a mall before but the one Sarah and I went to, wasn’t this spacious.

“Get whatever you like. It’s on Lucas.” She smirks as we get out of the car and I snort. My face turns rosy red and I look down at the cracked pavement. Way to go Addie. This is why I’ve never had a boyfriend, I think.

“Well, lets go!” Eve chirps happily and I shuffle behind them towards the glass doors. Eve opens the door and holds it open for us to enter. I walk past her and the smell of cleaning supplies fill my nose. Lucas walks in after me, followed by Matt and Eve lets the door swing shut.

“What store first?” Lucas asks me but I just shrug.

“Doesn’t matter.” I answer and he narrows his eyes.

“Eve? Where do you want to go?” I ask, taking the attention off me. I honestly didn’t know where I wanted to go.

“Belks?” She suggests and I nod. I walk with them towards Belks silently, listening to the conversations of other people around us. I was so distracted by a group of teens talking about how cute Lucas’s ass is, I didn’t realize they stopped walking. I ran straight into Matt’s back and I would’ve fell down but a strong hand against my back keeps me up right. I look back to see an amused Lucas smiling at me.

“Thanks.” I mutter and scurry into Belks.

“Can you direct me towards the Junior section?” I hear Eve ask a sales woman. She gives Eve a bored look before nodding. The sales woman had the typical dyed brown hair that was stuck up in a tight bun on the top of her head, the bright red lipstick and tight black knee-length skirt. Her eyes flick over to Lucas and she straightens her back, her bored expression turning into a failed flirty smile.

“Follow me. I will be happy to show you. You can call me Susan.” She says, looking right at Lucas. I hold back a laugh but she still glares at me, her eyes scanning me with a look of disgust.

“That’s fine. I can find it myself.” Lucas says before ushering us away. The second we turned around the corner and a rack of clothes blocked us from her glare, we all started laughing except Lucas.

“Someone has the hots for ya.” Eve teases and my wolf growls in displeasure.

Down girl. I say and she huffs but stays silent.

“I am going to pass.” He says and starts reading the signs for the junior section.

“Right over there.” Matt says and point to the left. We’re all still laughing when we get to the first rack of junior sized clothes. Eve pulls Matt over to a red sweater dress and starts searching for her size. I start searching through the clothes, looking for anything that caught my eye but came up with nothing.

“Find something?” Lucas asks from behind me but I shake my head.
After searching for about half an hour, I give up. Either the clothes are to dressy, not my color, or not my size. Lucas notices that I’m done because he nods his head towards the shoes.

“Sure. Eve, we’re going to the shoes.” I tell her and she turns to me. I don’t see anything in her arms but Matt’s are full of clothes. All belonging to Eve. I roll my eyes playfully and starts walking to the shoes.

“Where is your pile of clothes you want me to buy?” Lucas asks from beside me.

“Excuse you?” I ask, raising an eyebrow at him. Well, trying since both eyebrows shoot up.

“Aren’t you suppose to buy the whole store when a guy offers to pay?” He asks and realization dawns on me.

“Not every girl does that.” I say and pick up a pair of light brown knee boots. Cute, I think. I glance at the price before setting them down reluctantly. $109.99 is too high for a pair of shoes.

“Don’t you want those?” Lucas asks, following me to the rack of wedges.

“No.” I lie, avoiding looking at him.

“Don’t lie to me Addison.” He says and I shrug.

“I don’t need them.” I correct myself and look at a pair of black wedges.

“What size?” He asks and I shake my head.

“No Lucas.” I say and set the wedges down.

“Lucas? Tell me.” He says but I ignore him. I refuse to tell him my shoe size.

“Yes, Lucas. That’s your name isn’t it?” I tease but he doesn’t look amused.

“Don’t be a smartass. Tell me your shoe size or I will find out myself.” He threatens but I shrug him off. How can he find out? Use his  magical shoe power? I don’t think so.

“Fine, you asked for it.” He says and before I can ask him what he means, I’m picked up. Lucas carries my over to a wooden bench meant to try on shoes and sits me down, somewhat gently.

“What the hell are you doing?” I squeak but he doesn’t answer. He just simply slips my sandals off my foot and check the size. He slides it back on and a few butterflies erupt in my stomach. Perfect Cinderella moment, I think.

“Size 6?” He asks.

“You’re sisters shoes.” I defend and he chuckles.

“Sit here.” He demands before walking off towards the direction of the boots. I sit there swinging my feet innocently when someone sits next to me.

“Is this necessary? Lets just go home.” I groan, thinking it’s Lucas. That’s when I spot Lucas searching through boots. I turn around quickly and see a boy about my age.

“Never seen a girl be so straight forward. But lets go.” He smirks and I gasp.

“N-no! I thought you was someone else! No leaving! I meant, you stay. I will go. No! You go and I stay.” I say, confused. My wolf is very amused by my lame attempts at getting him to leave.

“That’s not what you said earlier.” He smirks, his green eyes twinkling. His eyes flicker down to my chest and I mentally curse the tank top, pulling it up.

“No.” I say simply, turning my body away from him. I see Lucas asking Eve for help, no one noticing me. Little innocent me. About to be kidnapped again but this time by a horny teenage boy.

“Don’t be like that babe.” He says and grabs my waist. A squeak leaves my lips, drawing Lucas’s attention. His eyes immediately snap the boys hand on my waist.

“I said no.” I say and he tightens his grip.

“Come on babe.” He says and Lucas stomps towards us. The boys eyes widen when they see Lucas. Even I was a bit scared. His jaw was clenched, his fists trembling, his eyes full of red hot fury and the muscles in his arm bunched. Shit. This boy is screwed.

“She said leave her alone.” Lucas spits out, his hand reaching out towards me. I grab it and he yanks me behind him. Lucas glares at the poor boy and takes a step towards him.

“Sorry. I didn’t know she had a boyfriend.” The boy says before running to a group of guys who was staring at Lucas like he was a god.

Sure does look like one. My wolf comments and I nod.

Ye-No! No he does not! I exclaim and Lucas turns to me. I feel myself shrink back but his hand was still holding mine, stopping me from moving too far away. I expected him to scream at me but his arms wrap around my waist, pulling me into a super tight bear hug. The air whooshes out of my lungs but I hug back, awkwardly patting his back. He buries his face in my neck and I swear I hear his sniff me. What the fuck? As if realizing what he’s doing, he releases me and steps away. What was that about?

“Lucas?” I whisper but he ignores me.

“Here’s your boots. Let’s go to a different store.” Eve says and hands me the boots. I nod and we go to pay for them, plus all the clothes Eve is getting. After  paying, we walk out of the store into the main section of the mall, passing by Susan.

“What store now?” Matt asks, trying to get Lucas’s attention but Lucas is dead set on ignoring the world. What I his problem? He can get flirted with but no one dare even look at me?

Mate? My wolf suggests.

NO! I say.

“Rue 21?” I say and Eve nods, leading the way.

“Lucas?” I murmur and his gaze meets mine.

“I’m sorry.” I say and he raises an eyebrow. Damn It. Why can’t I do that?

“For what Addison?” He asks.

“For not stopping him.” I say and he goes back to looking straight ahead.

“Not your fault. You tried.” He says and I smile slightly. We enter Rue 21 and Eve attacks the racks. I remember why I hate shopping. So much walking, too many clothes to search through, and people staring you down when you grab something.
I drop all my bags full of clothes on the desk chair, that was still sitting next to the door incase I need a lock and flop down on my bed. I got 11 shirts, 9 tank tops, 6 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of leggings, 15 pairs of matching undergarments, 2 pairs of boots, 3 new Chuck Taylor’s, new makeup and a Union Bay bag. Thank you Lucas. I slip my sandals off, crawling under the covers still dressed but I was too exhausted to care. A day full of waking around with a excited Eve pulling you into every store insight can wear a person out. The leather jacket clings to my skin and I slip it off quickly. I close my eyes, snuggling into the bed sheets, sleep working its way into my system.

“Goodnight Addison.” Someone whispers but before I can ask who was there, I fall asleep.

When I wake up it’s still dark out with the slightest hint of the sun over the mountains. What time is it? I sit up, the covers falling off my shoulder making a slight chill settle on my skin. Nothing I can’t handle. I slip off the bed and stumble around in the darkness. What woke me up? I flip the light on and a thousand suns pierce my eyes. I wince and instantly turn the lights off. Ouch!

What?! My wolf suddenly speaks up.

Lights. I mumble back and she huffs in response. I make my way over to the computer desk and grab the laptop. I crawl back into bed and slip back under the covers while the computer boots up. Warmth surrounds me and I smile. The computer flashes to the log in screen and it needs a password. Damn! I bite my bottom lip and think of any possible password. Password? No. Lucas? No. Alpha? No. Wolf? No. Ugh! Shadow Moon? No. A message box pops up, jarring me from my password induced thoughts. If you are having password difficulties, please enter your product key to reset the computer. NO! I exit the message off and shut the computer down. Is a little internet to much to ask? I sigh and set the computer on the nightstand next to me. I hear someone walk past my bedroom doors and I shoot up from the bed to see who it is. I swing the door open and see the retreating, shirtless back of Lucas.

“Lucas!” I whisper and he comes to a halt, turning to face me.

“Addison, what are you doing up? It’s only 5 in the morning.” He points out and I only shrug.

“I don’t know. But I’m wide awake.” I tell him and he nods, turning back around to walk away. He walks down the stairs with me right behind him.

“Where are we going?” I ask and his eyes flicker back to look at me.

“I have to go to my library. Where are you going?” He asks.

“To your library?” I ask and he shakes his head.

“I have stuff to do. You can’t come.” He says and walks towards a large oak door.

“Please? I will be quiet. I just want to read.” I whine and widen my blue eyes, giving him puppy dog eyes. He smiles at me before opening the door. I think he’s going to shut it in my face but he waits for me to enter. With a squeal, I skip in and take in the rows of books. Wow.

“You can get a book and sit over there to read.” He says, pointing to a little reading nook. It’s a simple black love seat with a plain red blanket and a small stack of books sitting on the floor next to it.

“Thanks.” I mumble, wandering of into book land. I pass by a bunch of classical, history and poetry books before finally finding my wanted section. Fiction. I was searching through the endless names of the books when I came upon Twilight. My small giggle turns into a blown out laughing fit.

“What?” Lucas asks, walking around the corner of the bookshelf.

“Why do you have T-Twilight?” I snort between laughs. He chuckles and eyes the book.

“Eve.” He replies simply.

“Mhm. Sure. I like Twilight.” I say, calming down and continuing my book search. I decide to read a book on a Fae teen  who falls in love with a human. Strictly forbidden love apparently. I walk to the nook and make myself comfortable on the couch.

“I am going to be over here. Reading also.” Lucas says and takes a seat on the opposite side of the love seat. I lay across the seat, my feet in his lap but he doesn’t say anything. Humph. Weird.

After I read the 9th chapter and the human rejects the Fae, a gasp escapes my lips.

“What?” Lucas asks, looking up from his book.

“What are you reading? The human boy rejects the Fae teenager even though they are destined to be together!” I complain.

“What?” He asks, confused about my anger towards the boy.

“He can’t just reject her!” I exclaim and he shakes his head.

“You’re totally right. No rejections. It’s just too uncommon.” He teases, earning a light smack on the shoulder from me.

“Whatever. What book are you reading?”  I ask again.

“Romeo and Juliet.” He says, surprising me.

“Because I love how even though it’s a forbidden love, they still see each other. True love knows no bounds.” He says and my heart beat increases. From the smirk on his face, I know he hears.

“Really?” I ask softly.

“No. Not really. It’s the history of the Evergreen pack. I want to know more about your dad.” He says, ruining the moment. My heart drops back to its normal speed and I glare. His gray eyes twinkle in delight and humor, his laugh filling the library. I grin slightly, going back to my book.

“Why?” I ask after a few minutes of silence.

“Why what?”

“Why do you want to know about my dad?”

“Because I’m curious. That’s all.” He says, lying. I roll my eyes and turn the page of my book. Engrossed in the otherworldly words, I don’t notice Lucas watching me with a smile on his face.

I sit my book on top of the stack of book and look at Lucas. His gray eyes stare intently back into my blue ones and I blush.

“Staring isn’t polite.” I mutter and he chuckles.

“You was staring first.” He responds and I stick my tongue out at him.

“So mature.” He says and sits his book down.

“What did you learn about my dad?” I ask and he shrugs.

“Nothing important.” He answers and shifts his body to get more comfortable, my feet still in his lap.

“You could have just asked me.” I inform him and he shrugs his broad shoulders. The urge to wrap my arms around his neck and hug him sparks inside me.

Do it. My wolf practically begs me.

No. I say and she whines. I thought she was going to give up but then my arms twitch. NO!

Just one hug! We both know I can make you.” Hs threatens but I ignore her. I shove my hands under my ass, earning a weird look from Lucas.

“What are you doing?” He asks.

“My hands are cold?” I offer weakly and he tilts his head to the side.

“Oh really?” He asks and my hands jerk from under my ass.

Stop fighting! My wolf argues. Damn human self for being a weakling. Lucas watches my arms with confusion and then I tackle him. Against my will, but it happened. My arm wraps around his neck and I hug him tight. He tenses up before hugging back. Damn it! Stupid wolf!

Hey! You wanted this too! She snaps. His mint vanilla scent fills my nose and I blush.

“Addison.” He murmurs and my eyes widen.

“Ye-yes?” I stutter and he looks up at me.

“What is this for?” He asks, raising an eyebrow.

“No reason.” I say and release him, falling back on the love seat.

“There has to be a reason.” He says but I shake my head.

Yes. My wolf mutters but I shut her out, pissed at her lack of disobedience.

“No there isn’t.” I lie and he drops it but he still doesn’t look convinced.

“Fine.” He says and I look at him.

“What’s the plans today?” I ask.

“Lazy day. Kylie is roaming free now and I don’t want you anywhere around her.” He says and I nod, my heart drops. Kylie.

“Where’s Eve and Damien?” I ask.

“Eve is on a date and Damien is training the newest members of the pack.” He answers. I don’t reply as I pick my book back up. I pick up where I left off and Lucas leans his head on the back of the seat.

I finish the book an hour later and lay it down. My mind races with the cliff hanger at the end and I make a mental note to find the next book. I look at Lucas, who is asleep. Light snores escape his mouth and I smile. I pull my feet off his lap and scoot closer.

“Lucas?” I whisper and lightly shake him. Nothing. I shake him again and he groans, laying down. Instead of pushing me off the seat, his arms encircle my waist and pull me against his chest. I try to gently escape but then he starts sleep talking. I smile and let myself stay still for a few seconds before one simple word leaves his lips. The word makes my heart speed up and my wolf howl in happiness.

“Mate.” He mumbles. What the hell?
