Nine years ago Skylar's mother died in a car accident. And now she has a even bigger problem to worry about. It actually happened when she went out to think about her mother's death. The next thing she knew wolves were mauling her. And now she's a werewolf. Tada. But she has to hide it from her father, her friends (who really aren't that great of friends), and her possibly-boyfriend-but-not-exactly-sure-best-guy-friend Jackson.
Who she really has a crush on.

10. Adrenaline

I had found the wolves.

They were running through the forest, silent. Their scent was the only thing that they left behind. The big black wolf that had first attacked me was in front, with a dark brown female that wove in and out of the trees like she was a skier on a slalom course. If I could run like that, these wolves would be dead by morning. But of course, I didn't know how to fight  a wolf. I knew that they were vicious, and could easily kill a human. but I wasn't a human anymore. At least, not right now. I was simply a human in a wolf's body.

Padding behind them, I began running. The wolves in the back of the formation gave me a wary glance, but let me into their ranks. Wow, this is actually easier than I thought it would be, focusing on stretching my legs and running as fast as I could, adrenaline coursing through my veins, giving me strength I would've never had before. The wolves around me gave me little nudges, bumping me into the others. Oh, really? You think you can ignore me, too, just like everyone else in my life has?

I bared my teeth, jumping on the nearest wolf. It was a small dark grey one with humanlike brown eyes. The wolf's small frame made it easy to tackle and keep pinned down. The wolf struggled but there was no chance he was getting out from my grip. Growling in it's face, I snapped my teeth then let the wolf get up. It gave me a pained expression, then started to lick the scratches on its pelt. I saw the big black wolf come up to the smaller one, and lick it's cheek before padding over to me. The wolf's green eyes surveyed me for a moment, then it nodded, then stretched it's giant head over to me, and touched my forehead. Welcome to the pack, Sky. You have proved yourself worthy, a voice said in my head, and I was shocked.

Since when did I hear things in my head? I growled, and the black wolf bared his teeth. You know who I am. I am your Alpha, the voice said again, and the black wolf nudged me, his wise green eyes full of trust.

Oh, not only did you make me a werewolf, you're going to make me hear some random wolves voices in my head?

We're not just some random wolves, Sky. You do know who we are, the Alpha said, blinking at me, and I fidgeted.

What the hell does that mean?

Time to go hunting, a new voice said, and I realized that the dark brown fae that had been running in between the trees was talking to me. Okaaaaaaaaay. I have no idea how this is going to work, though, I thought, grimacing. Your instincts will take over for you, the brown fae replied, glancing back at me with a friendly look.

Eventually the pack stopped in a small clearing. The scent of deer filled my nostrils, and I couldn't help but to leap forward and try to kill it on my own. That's exactly what you need to do, another wolf said, and a gray brute made his way next to me. His hazel eyes twinkled, so humanlike it was hard to believe that these wolves didn't have a bit of human in them. Eh... then I realized that if I killed the deer, I would have to eat it along with the other wolves. Ewww.. that's totally nasty......

Hey, don't sweat it, Sky. It tastes just like beef, the gray brute nudged me playfully and I cleared all my thoughts out of my head. Leaping at the deer, I bit it's neck and it gurgled, and its chocolate brown eyes glazed over.I couldn't help but feel bad for the poor deer. I had always loved animals, and now I was becoming a killer of them.

Skylar, it's how life works. Think about it for a second. If we didn't eat this deer, we would be starving. The Alpha stepped beside me, giving me a warm gaze. I winced for a moment. Glancing down at the pool of blood around the deer, I stepped back.

Sky, it's your kill, you get the first bite, the grey brute said, giving me a hungry look.

Fine. But I'm not doing this everytime you guys are hungry, I thought, closing my eyes as I bit into the deer.

Oh, don't worry, Sky, it's just a ritual for the new wolves, the brown fae smiled, and I blinked.

What do you mean, new wolves? I screamed in my head, but the rest of the wolves looked at their paws. That is a matter that we can focus on later. Everyone, let's eat! the Alpha howled, and the pack crowded around me to eat the deer.
