6. Private Worship

A more private type of worship, available to all, was offered at small, local shrines. Each shrine was dedicated to one specific god or goddess. Many Egyptian households also had small niches in the walls that could be used as miniature shrines for deceased relatives and the gods. Common household gods were Bes and Tawaret. These deities could ward off evil, and were often depicted on amulets and plaques.
