I don't Dance

I knew him. Well I knew guys like him. I had watched guys like him pass by me all my life. The type that drink until they can't walk, who get any girl they want. Those guys that thought they were invincible, and that they owned the world. That the whole world revolved around them.. so why was this one so different.

2. Break Down

Our shift was nearly over, and everyone wanted to go watch the guys practice their bull runs.

"I think I am going to go home, and change." I said.

"You are coming out tonight even if I have to drag you there." Henry said putting his hand on my shoulder.

"I need to come out tonight." I said smiling at him.

"Come pick me up after the runs are over." I said grabbing the truck keys out of Kim's hand.

"Be ready!" Kim said, and then they took off. I left the through the back door of the bar, and there was that guy. The one with the green eyes making out with some girl behind the stable. He looked at me for a second, and then got back to what he was doing. I just shook my head, and got into the truck.

I started it up, and was ready to leave when I heard banging on the truck. I turned to my window, and there was that guy. I rolled the window down.

"You aren't going to stay and watch me ride?" He asked hanging off of the truck.

"Shouldn't you be there?" I said.

"I am last to go." He said.

"I don't watch bullriding." I said starting to roll up the window.

"Is it because of that guy that died last year?" He said.

I just rolled up the window, and started to drive away. I could see him standing there watching my drive away in my mirrors. I could feel the tears start to fall down my face slowly. The fifteen minute drive didn't take long, but everytime you would pass the cemetery. Sure enough there was that big headstone that was surrounded with old flowers, and lights that didn't work anymore. I had driven by it dozens of times, but I could never get the courage to go in there.

I parked the tuck in front of the house, and started to hit the steering wheel. My emotions were starting to take over.

I walked into the house, and straight to my closet, opening the door fast. In the far right corner were 5 of his shirts. All of them plaid but different colors. A belt buckle hanging from the hanger of the last one. At the bottom of the closet was a box. I hadn't opened it since his brother had brought it over to me. I pulled it out of the closet, and fell to my knees in front of it. Opening it like a bomb would go off when it opened. It was full of trophies, and a little box in the corner. Behind the box there was something stuck. I pulled it out of the crease of the box, and it was a picture. I flipped it around so that it was facing me.

Covered my mouth with my hand, and took a deep breath. It was Dan and me, I was holding his trophy, and he was holding me kissing my cheek. It was the first summer that me, and him started to date. I could remember it like it was yesterday. He had broken the local record for longest bull ride. The first thing he did when he got out of that ring was pick me up, and kiss me until people pulled us apart. I touched my lips with the tip of my fingers. I looked at the little box in the corner of the box. I picked it up, and held it for a second. I knew what it was, but I needed to see it. I opened it slowly and sure enough there was that big diamond and gold ring with a little not inside of the box.

"I want Crazy." It said. I threw the box, and the ring across the room letting out a scream. I went to the kitchen and pulled out the bottle of whiskey. I didn't waste anytime I cracked it open, and started to chug it back. With each sip of it I felt more, and more relief.

My head was buzzing, and my stomach was churning. Then I heard a knock on the door. I walked over and peaked out the window.

"What do you want Cam?" I asked opening the door.

"Sara give me the bottle." He said pulling the bottle from my hand. I wiped the remaining tears from my face.

"Do you think he would want this for you?" He asked stepping into the house.

"Everyone misses him Sara, but he's gone." Cam said grabbing me, and pulling me into a hug.

"What's that?" He asked me picking up the little box on the ground. He fell silent, and we sat there for a few minutes in silence.

"You aren't going out tonight, you need to rest." Cam said.

"Cam." I said as he walked away from me.

"No, we will talk tomorrow when half a bottle of whiskey isn't clouding your thoughts." He said picking up the bottle from the nightstand, and taking it with him. He walked out of the door, and I laid there listening to his truck tires go down the road until I couldn't hear them anymore. I laid there thinking about everything until I finally fell asleep. I woke up the next morning.

"Why do you do that to yourself?" Kim asked running her hands through my hair sitting on the corner of my bed.

"I can't do this." I said laying there while she played with my hair.

"Sweety, I am taking you out tonight, you deserve to have fun, and Henry agrees." She said.

"That cute boy was asking about you all night at the party." She said smiling.

"Was that before or after he head his tongue down Tammy's throat?" I asked sitting up finally. "You fall for the worst guys Kim." I said getting up, and brushing my teeth.

"He seemed so sweet." She said.

"Kim, he wants sex, I guarantee you that you sleep with him, and you will never get another call from him again." I said coming out of the bathroom. "You are beautiful, smart and funny, and I know you can do much better than the trash we have here." I said.

"Get ready we have work today to." I said pushing her towards the bathroom.

"Who was here last night?" She asked.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because we passed someone coming down the road last night." She said.

"Cam.." I said thinking about the night before.

"What did he want?" She asked.

"Just wanted to make sure that I was doing okay." I said smiling the best I could, and changing.

We pulled up to the bar, and there was that guy standing against the building waiting for me.

"If you are going to be stalking me I at least nee dot know your name." I said getting out of the truck.

"Trevor." He said walking up to me.

"What do you want Trevor?" I asked unlocking the back door to the bar.

"I want to take you out tonight." He said following me into the bar.

"Staff only." I said stopping him in front of the door. I had to look up just to see his face.

"Let me take you out tonight." He said.

"Why would you want to take me of all people out?" I asked sighing.

"To make up for yesterday, I brought up Dan rather rudely." He said.

"And who told you about him?' I asked.

"Your friend Henry last night." He said.

"Oh so he set this up? Well thank you but I am not interested, I know your type." I said turning away.

"What is my type?" He asked putting on a smart face.

"The typical charming guy, who thinks he can get any girl he wants," I said.

"I am not like that." He protested.

"Oh really, so how much have you and Tammy talked since yesterday?" I asked.

"Who's Tammy?" He said.

"There's my point." I said walking into the bar.

"Please just give me a chance." He said grabbing my shoulder.

"You don't touch another girl for this entire week, maybe I will think about it." I said, and then closed the door in his face.

"What was that about?" Kim asked.

"He wanted to take me out tonight." I said putting my stuff down.

"And you said?" She asked looking eager.

"I said if he doesn't touch another girl all week I will think about it." I said smirking.
