At Cambridge

A lot of things happened while I was at Cambridge. There were way too many thoughts and feelings and events and to simply note down, so I guess I'll tell the whole story. That's the only way it's going to make sense.

1. One

I'm going to Cambridge university.

That sounds unbelievably posh and weird but it's happening. I'm excited. I revised all summer for this and somehow got all the A's I needed and now I'm packing. My fourteen year old sister is helping me pack, picking out which clothes I should definitely take and which I could leave.

Another reason I'm excited to go is because this house is impossible to live in. I'm not unhappy, I do love it, but I can't wait to get away from it. It's all just a bit much. My family is kind of eccentric. My dad is a carpenter, my mum's a yoga instructor but she does it in these forests or something. There are always candles lit in every single room of the house, we always have veggie meat or lentils for dinner, the rooms are painted with neon paint and there are no flowers being grown in the garden, only herbs. So however much I adore my family, I'm looking forward to being more independent.

That being said, I guess I'm kind of away with the fairies too compared to everybody else. I can't name an item of clothing that I own that isn't boho in one way or another. I don't mind though. University is where people don't really care who you are, only how you treat them. That's what I've heard anyway.

"Are you scared, Daisy?" my sister Juniper (Junie for short) asks.

I shrug. "Not really."

"I would be." she twirls a bit of her hair between her fingers. Today she's chalked the ends pink and blue and she's stuck little gems to her cheek bones. She fits perfectly into this family, more than I do.

"What is there to be scared of?" I ask, smiling at her as I fold up a dress and put it in my suitcase.

"What if your teachers hate you? What if the other people hate you? What if you hate them? What if your room smells weird? What if your roommate smells weird? What if you hate your lessons?"

I laugh. "It's all gonna be fine, don't worry about me, Junie."

My mum calls up the stairs to see if I'm ready to go and I zip up my suitcase, say goodbye to Junie and then I'm on my way to Cambridge.
