Phoenix Rising

The year is 2102, welcome to a world drowned in chaos and nuclear fallout. Humankind lay dessicated, what remians of us are conserved in bio dome cities, driven into risk, governments and military crippeled. I'm just a man, I don't know anything of my past, but I know about my future, and the future of this planet that was once ours. A story about a clan that looked out for everyone, human...or not human. A clan willing to risk anything to ensure survival, with the best technology and tactics at their disposal. A clan, that saved me, and made me something I tought would never be possible, I am a member of Phoenix Rising, I am Alec Shard, this is my story, this is our Earth, and what remains of it.

8. Patched

(PR main lounge, Bolivia, 8:00pm, Sunday 13th August 2102)

"Now, tell me everything" Alec said, lying down on a chair. They were now in the lounge, the room was highly vertical and symmetrical, the center had several couches in a circular row, and a huge 3D hologram displaying a rotating planet.....Earth. The walls had circular openings to other rooms without doors. Large marble pillars reached to the roof, and a glass ceiling covered by trees and moss, undetectable from the outside. Most of the room was painted peachy and a light brown tint applied as the outline that connected to the orange patterned floor. The patterns were abstract, squire tiles overlapped each other and had different tones of brown that stood out from the orange. The chairs Alec and Mitchell were sitting on were huge and thick, he conserved his comfort and almost sank into the materials. PR members were on balconies, looking down at them or admiring the incredible and detailed infrastructure. Huge windows and tall lamps toned the atmosphere, it was very luxury and relaxing, but Alec's determination to know about what Mitchell knows disrupted him into discomfort, he was distracted from the awe of the impressive interior and design.

"It's time I should tell you Alec, this may get disturbing for you".
"Go on, I need to know everything". Mitchell took his seat besides Alec, Nebula lied on the floor under his feet.
"You know my father? Marcus Librem? The one who designed the biodome shields for the last cites, I think you should know he never died from an illness.....he was murdered". Alec stared at him intriguingly, in complete silence, as Mitchell continued.
"Yes he had respiratory disease contraction, or I could of just said deadly lung cancer. But  that was not the cause of his death. yesterday morning when you gave me that letter, back at Phanix HQ in New London, when we bumped into each other in the corridors in the biolabs.  When you gave me that letter, I saw the location mark at Wolverhampton HMP Oakwood prison, I knew that something will happen there, PR were gonna get to you there".

Alec looked confused. "What does this have to do with anything? What about your father?"
"My father was murdered at that prison, I was there with him, I sat there and watch him get shot by some tiny skruall, I felt sorry for him, he was so young, weak, they threw him in front of Marcus, made him point a gun at his head while they pointed a gun at the skrualls, I was chained to a wall, unable to do anything, I just closed my eyes and cried, I could even hear the skruall child cry, they left him there to cry, and left me there to rot". Alec interrupted.
"Who is ...they?"
"Phanix, yes thats right, they were soldiers commanded to execute Marcus, all because they found out he had a healthy friendship with the         rebels of PR, it was an act of treason, the punishment was death. I will never forgive them, and I lied there and quietly weeped, a young defenseless child drowned in the ash, laid to waste, then.....they came for me...PR". Alec was still silent, fixating on everything Mitchell was saying.

"They raised me and protected me, when I was a kid, this very lounge we sit in was my home, my universe. When I was old enough, I left out on my own, I never had any interest for war or murdering in exo-skeletons, I wanted to remain a peaceful life, but I kept my vow for revenge, I returned to New London, they never recognized who I was, and the intellect and knowledge I gained at Phoenix Rising landed me a job at the Phanix laboratory, where I kept my distance from all the savages there, including Kieth, the bastard".
"What did Kieth ever do?!" Alec raised from his seat
"He was at the execution, he was the one who confirmed the order".
"Who gave the order in the first place!?"
"Alan Blakeway"

Alec heard the name, he slowened down to his seat, blank expressions and suppressed anger. "Continue..."
"So anyway, once I read the letter, the name of the prison really made me flip, I began getting flashbacks of that place".
Alec felt a fright, sudden realization. "Wait...the same happened to me, when I was at the prison, with Christopher, Maxis, and two others I cant remember, its something about that prison that frightens me".
"Strange coincidence, once I stopped freaking out after you left, I took my continental pass, and traveled here in Bolivia, I knew you would end up here, after the incident in 2086, Oakwood prison was one of PR's many outposts, looks like Phanix is starting to raise attention on it".
"Mitchell, what are you intending now? now that were here?"
"We fight, and we win, its been decades, the world is shrinking, conflicts are growing, population is decreasing, we have to do something about it".
"Like what?"

Another voice echoed from across the cascade. "Like returning to New London, we need an undercover spy, to keep track of the city, until we know what Alan's next move is". Alec and Mitchell looked to their right, Barret approached them, jumping off from the balcony and hovering slowly to the ground. "Don't worry, they wont make a big deal to know your alive, make sure you stay normal, tell Kieth that the incident at Wolverhampton was a wildlife amok, you went of course and the prison was cleared. In that case, you will be rewarded a continental pass, therefore you'll be able to travel anywhere worldwide without getting yourself blown up by the international military, cant promise the local rogues or PMC's wont come after you".
Barret was about to walk back in the direction he came from, Alec raised from the couch and stopped him. "Woah woah! I want a little more time here to stay comfortable, Ive been here less than a day!"
"I know, you can stay here for 3 more days, then head back to New London, we will drop you off nearby on our BSCT (Bio Stealth Combatant Transporter) clear everything up with Kieth, then you are safe to do whatever you want, when you want, just don't raise suspicion and don't blow our cover! Your exosuit cannot follow into the city with you, it will remain here until you return.

"Ok, I understand" Barret nodded and walked away, before turning back one last time. "Oh and if you want to settle in, you might wanna socialize with the other members a bit, they might hate you less. Mathias and Keegan want to speak to you as well, Mitchell will show you the way to their rooms, its kinda important for any new PR member to know about". And he departed into the next hallway, Alec and Mitchell looked back at each other. "Well, you should tour me around this place anyway". Mitchell quietly nodded, he walked around the sofa into another opening to a room. Looking back, nodding for Alec to follow. He bent down to Nebula and caressed her head softly. "Stay here, good girl". He stood up and noticed straight ahead, across the lounge, the waterfall display, a figure on a balcony staring at him. It was Nikita, she stood there calmly, menacingly, before walking out of sight. Alec kept staring, walking backwards towards Mitchell, as the two of them entered into the next room. "When am I'm gonna know more about this clan anyway?"
"Thats where your going to find out".
