Fuck You Over

*Said I was a douche bag won't call back, worst hangover you ever had. Felt so good at first but you knew it would never last.*
I stared at the girl in the front seat. Was that really my only competition? I had to be up against something better than that, something more classy and less trashy perhaps?
"This is Violet, she goes to the high school down the road from ours." Ashton said smirking at me. I smiled and shook her hand.
"Hey, I'm Hunter. It's a pleasure to meet you." I said sitting back in my seat. Ashton stared at me questioningly before turning the car on.
"We're gonna make one more stop at my friend Luke's house real quick." He said to Violet. She nodded. Oh no, he knew he was on to me. I sighed heavily and did breathing exercises. I forgot about Luke's part in my plan. Pretend I wasn't madly in love with him… seems easy enough.

Chapter 2- Heat and Hair

I started my homework shortly after I got home. There wasn't a big family base. Me, my dad and our Yorkie, Lola. We lived in a normal sized house but both of us (my dad and I) were rarely around to call it a home. But tonight I was hosting a sleepover which wasn't new. Ally came over most of the days of the week to catch up on sleep she wasn't getting at home with her parents and five older brothers living there. Since they had connections with the high schoolers they all got a picture of their sister too. The latter of them went to Ashton's house but didn't do much damage other than slash his tires since he wasn't home. Her parents were giving her a hard time since they found out through family friends that their daughter was how they put it "skanking it up." Ally had been thrown to the very bottom of the social food chain and I, being her loyal companion and only other person in on the plan of mass destruction for Ashton, was placed right next to her. Like anybody else who was hurdled lower than the nerds and geeks on the social chain of acceptance she acted out like only a true Walker kid can, she pretended that she didn't know what was going on. Whenever someone brought it up she acted as though it was news to her. By the time she'd stopped pretending and embraced the fact that she had done it and that everyone knew it was old news that only was ever brought up when people found it most necessary in their conversation which surprisingly was more than we'd both like to admit.

"Heard Ashton thinks you're hot." I heard someone say. I turned to my door and leaning on the frame was Alyson Walker. Her usually long curly blonde hair was straight and limp. Her lively blue eyes were dead and looked almost pale. Her smooth cream colored skin looked almost colorless and transparent. She looked tired and weak as though she hadn't eaten in weeks and only slept in intervals of 10 minutes.

"Yeah, I heard that too." I said turning my chair towards her body. She kicked the door closed with the back of her foot and her body slumped to the floor. I slid off my chair and scoot next to her. Ally's head fell to my shoulder and I wrapped my arms around her waist.

"How long should it be now? Two days? Three?" She questioned on how long it might take to get Ashton's attention.

"Soon." Is all I said. She drooped her head and looked down at the carpeted floors.

"So how was history?" Ally, as my best friend, knew every crucial detail about my life an personality. So my favorite school subject was the start of most if our current conversations.

"It was fine calming to hear about the betrayal of assholes and white men." I smiled happily.

"Says the whitest white girl to ever live." She smirked.

"I disagree. Janet Abraham in our gym class is pretty white." I said

"You have a map that is pinned with all of the Starbucks in the area. And do you wear anything other than skinny jeans? And don't get me started on your hair." She said.

"What about my hair?" I asked not showing my hurt at her judgement.

"If you even look in the same direction as the sun your hair has a spaz attack." She giggled.

"Heat and Hunter Hair do not mix." I said as though it was a simple science.

"Yea sure. So how's your unhealthy obsession with Luke Hemmings?" She asks smiling.

"You know I'm only letting you bash me because your hurting. If the tables were equal then I would totally burn your ass." I threatened.

"C'mon he's your fucking neighbor and he drives you home sometimes. He obviously likes you." She said standing up and walking to my bed. She plunked down and stuffed herself in the corner. Lola barked at her and jumped over to her. Ally opened her arms to her and wrapped her in a hug.

"If a guy likes you then they say it.'Hey I like you let's be together forever and have adorable blue eyed babies.' Or something like that." I said pulling my legs up to my chin.

"What are you afraid of?" She asked.

"Heartbreak, rejection, spiders and a French fry shortage." I answered honestly. She gave me a confused look and then sighed.

"You live in a world where no one does bad things and no one gets hurt,no?" She asks

"No. I just don't want me or the people I love to get hurt." I said shrugging.

"One day you're going to realize that not all your choices should be so guarded." She said. Her eyes drifted closed and a light snore was heard. She fell asleep so quickly that it was amazing to me how she was actually truly sleeping. I pulled out my phone and text Michael making tutor plans.

Me: Tutor session 2morrow. @ 6:30pm

I sent the text and looked through my closet. I pulled out a pair of pajama pants and a large college teeshirt that probably got mixed into my laundry while dad was doing it.

Michael: tell me y ur trying to date ash and mayb I'll b there

I rolled my eyes and looked over to my sleeping best friend and then over to my bed room window which had a direct view of Luke's. I closed my eyes and sighed.

Me: look ppl develop feelings for other ppl w/o even realizing it until the feelings grow.

Michael: I'm going to call bullshit!!! U can't stand ash

Me: I'm going to sleep. B there or fail math not my problem

Michael: well fuck you too

I was about to send something else but decided against it. I tossed my phone on my desk plugging it in and then sliding into bed with Lola and Alyson.

"Are you sure you two don't need a ride to school?" My dad ask for the fiftieth time this morning. I was finishing my bowl of gruel which was just oatmeal and orange juice.

"Dad I can drive myself to school." I said running a hand though my hair.

"Yeah Kale, your baby girl is old enough to transport herself without parent or guardian supervision." Alyson teased.

"You know for someone whose sat in my kitchen and eaten my food that I paid for with my hard earned money since you were in the fourth grade you'd think you'd say my name properly." My father said throwing a piece of toast at Ally.

"Sorry Gale, sometimes I forget." She said laughing and biting into the toast.

"Well it's getting late. We both need to get on the road." I said digging into a pot of freshly made french fries.

"I'll never understand why you make french fries in the morning." Alyson laughed as we walked out to my car. I bleeped open the car and slid into the drivers seat. Alyson sighed and pulled her hoodie up and pulled the strings tightly.

"Ready?" I asked turning to her.

"Off to hell we go." She said a slight smile tugging on her lips.

School went slowly on nothing to big happened. When lunch came up I held my breath the entire way to the cafeteria. Lunch was either Ally and I or just me. Ally sometimes ditched lunch so that she didn't have to get bullied there. When I ate lunch alone it was usually like watching a movie. Seeing everything happen in the front row but nobody seeing you. When Ally did come she and I made fun of everyone together. As I looked at our usual table I realized if be going solo this time. I bought my lunch which consisted of a burger and like three plates if fries. I walked over to the back of the cafeteria. Three large windows took up the wall where one round twelve seat table sat alone in the back of the room. I sat on the table and placed my tray there softly. I dipped my fry in some ketchup crunching it and sighing at how good it tasted. Pure ungodly joy. A tray slammed softly next to mine. I looked up to see Ally smiling at me largely as she sat.

"You smiling at lunch? Did you kill someone?" I asked dipping another fry in the sauce.

"Ashton and Violet broke up." She said handing me a plate of fries.I snatched it greedily and then continued on to munching on the fried potatoes.

"Is that supposed to mean something to me?" I asked. She took her burger and splatter ketchup all over the bun.

"Well that means he's single and your chances are higher." She said.

"I can't make a move until he's alone. He won't be alone for awhile especially now that he's single." I pointed out. She sighed heavily and then smiled.

"He's failing math." She said.

"Half the senior class is failing math. You're failing math!" I pointed out.

"Yeah but you're not." She said.

"Yeah because I study and dedicate a lot of time to making sure that my grades look good and-"

"Tutor him and then you'll have him right where you want him."

"I thought I wanted him to be in love with me not to pass math." I said confused. She hit me upside the head and then waited. I rubbed the spot she hit and then gathered my hair into a ponytail.

"Do you get it yet?" She asked.

"If I say yes will you stop abusing me?" I asked

"If you tutor him then you too will be alone." She said stretching out the word. I thought about it momentarily. To be honest the only guy I could be around without making a fool of myself with was Michael and that was because he was and always will be the biggest asshole there is. I sighed, maybe if I pretend Ashton's Michael then it won't be so awkward.

"That's a marvelous idea. But first I've got to get him to let me tutor him." I said starting to power think.

"I see wheels turning in that beautiful head of yours." Ally said smiling at me.

"Well I'm going to need to work up a lot of courage for what's to come." I said stuffing the last of the fries into my mouth and handing my burger over to Alyson. She drowned it with ketchup and then smashed it together. I waited for her to finish before we both left the cafeteria. I turned to Ashton's table and Luke was watching me along with Michael and Ashton. My eyes locked with theirs and I immediately felt like they all knew what was going on. They didn't. I told myself walking off without a care in the world. Or so I hoped.
