Fuck You Over

*Said I was a douche bag won't call back, worst hangover you ever had. Felt so good at first but you knew it would never last.*
I stared at the girl in the front seat. Was that really my only competition? I had to be up against something better than that, something more classy and less trashy perhaps?
"This is Violet, she goes to the high school down the road from ours." Ashton said smirking at me. I smiled and shook her hand.
"Hey, I'm Hunter. It's a pleasure to meet you." I said sitting back in my seat. Ashton stared at me questioningly before turning the car on.
"We're gonna make one more stop at my friend Luke's house real quick." He said to Violet. She nodded. Oh no, he knew he was on to me. I sighed heavily and did breathing exercises. I forgot about Luke's part in my plan. Pretend I wasn't madly in love with him… seems easy enough.
Hunter Masters is your regular high school teenager. She tutors for extra credit and sh

17- Shorts and Surprises

The walk to the lake wasn't bad. Well it would be if you were clumsy but since I had Ashton carry me the entire way it wasn't bad. I continued to ask if I was heavy and he continued to say no. He didn't even busy a sweat. I was tired and I was just riding (a||n the irwin dick). I personally thought Ashton just liked us being close together.

"We are almost there I can feel you falling asleep." He said.

"I'm just resting my eyes. I'm up." I lied laying my head on his neck. He was so warm and muscular. Like a teddy bear of Dave Franco or Superman.

"We are here." He says putting me down. I smiled stretching and then I frowned. What I saw was a bunch of trees and vines surrounding a puddle. I kid you not. A puddle that looked so small I could barely fit my entire foot in it. I looked up to Ashton who was focusing on the vines.

"Ashton, this is a puddle." I said.

"It's a lake." He said in a sing songy kinda way.

"I'm Hunter, not stupid. This is a freaking puddle. You drove me seven hours away from home. Made me get dressed and walk all the way out here,"

"I carried you." He interrupted.

"But I had to entertain you!" I exclaimed.

"All you did was ask if we were close." He said.

"Anyways that's not the point. The point is we drove out here to sit in a puddle. A freaking puddle. This is why you guys don't ever use this house. Because the closest thing to a lake you have is smaller than a stream. Do you know what puddles are made of?" I asked him. He sighed obviously ignoring me.

"I'm going home." I said taking the clearest path.

"It's the left path and you aren't going anywhere. I found it." He said.

"What you found is a puddle. And a dirty bug filled one at that."

"Are you finished?" He asked. I crossed my arms over my chest and nodded. He pulled back the vines he had been holding presenting a glistening lake surrounded by green grass hills and trees.

"You were saying?" He smirked.

"You're the worst boyfriend ever." I said smiling at him.

"I could make you walk home by yourself." He teased.

"I'd just find someone to take me home. Like that ice cream guy we saw when we were leaving." I said. He rolled his eyes at me. The guy was like 50.

"Are you ready?" He asked. I wasn't sure. I had places with animals that could possibly hurt me.

"Are there alligators?" I asked.

"It's a lake. Not a swamp." He says rolling his eyes.

"I promise you, I will not let anything hurt you." He says. I sigh nodding and stripping. I unbutton my pants and pulled my shirt up and over my head. We walked hand and hand down the grass. I dipped my toe in the water and glared at Ashton. He let my hand go and jumped into the water. He resurfaced and smiled at me.

"Jump in." He said. I twirled the sides of my bathing suit in my fingers and sighed jumping into the water next to him. I let my hair fall over my face.

"What was the point of this?" I asked. It was quiet. If you didn't know better your think this was a private lake.

"I don't know. You always talk about how Calum takes Cassie on all these dates and I can see it in your eyes that you want that. And I know dating me isn't a walk in the park but you make it seem that way." He said. He put his hands on my hips. I bit my lip realizing that I technically wasn't wearing much. He wasn't wearing a lot of clothing either.

"I just tell you because Cassie is my best friend and that's what couples do. They compare themselves to other couples." I explained. I ran my thumb over his bottom lip.

"I actually asked Calum for advice on this entire week." Ashton blushed. I couldn't help but feel touched that he asked someone how to make me happy.

"I would've been fine if we watched Netflix and cuddled. The only thing I want is to be with you." I explained. His eyes looked down at my lips and to the top of my bathing suit. Cleavage wasn't my biggest priority so if I was flashing someone I wouldn't know until later. I lowered myself into the water and swam away. The water was surprisingly clean and very cool. This is was the coolest date I'd ever been on. My first date but I'm sure this beats movies or dinner. This was us. This was a representation of us. We were fucking awesome.

"We need milk." Ashton said reading off of a list. We had went home and realized we didn't have anything to eat. So even though I was tired and dirty I went anyways. Because that's what good girlfriends do. Also because he wanted to go shirtless and I wasn't letting him go alone. Him shirtless was like fresh French fries. Very hot. Pun intended. As Ashton picked up a gallon of milk I tossed in chocolate syrup. He looked down at me and smiled shaking his head.

"I'm going to get some cookies." I said letting to of Ashton's hand and walking myself to the sweets aisle. Now this was one reason I hated people. There were idiots in this world that thought putting the chewy chocolate chip cookies on the highest rack was smart. Society come on.

"Do you need help there?" A guy asked. He had messy black hair and piercing brown eyes. He was actually amazing looking.

"Yeah, you see those cookies in the red packaging? Yeah I need those." I told him.

"You need them?" He asked.

"Well, in technical terms no but in my terms I do in fact need those chewy chocolate chip cookies." I shrugged. He nodded and reached his hand up grabbing the cookies and brought it to me. I reached for it but he pulled it up in the air where I couldn't get it.

Oh, you were this kinda guy?

"You got a name, Short?" He asked.

"I'm not short." I defended.

"Well, not short that's a long name, you got another one?"

"Yea, Stephanie Walker." I said rolling my eyes and leaning against the food.

"Why don't I believe you?" He asked.

"Because I'm lying, now would you nicely give me the cookies?" I asked.

"I haven't even hit on you, we could be best friends." He smiled.

"I'm not really good with keeping things like friends." I sighed.

"Why not? Don't tell them your real name? Yeah that's not how you make friends." The guy says. I laugh and sigh.

"I just don't make the right choices." I said. He pursed his lips and opened his mouth to say something but closed it again.

"There's not a such thing as right choices and wrong choices. It's what you do in the situation that really matters. Yeah you robbed the bank but you also killed a man or hurt somebody. It's not just the entire thing. It's what matters most that determines if it's a right or wrong choice." He said. I stared at him. He wasn't what I thought he was. He was deep and mysterious. And probably going to be my only friend after all of this ended.

"Hunter Masters." I said.

"Zayn Malik. Nice to meet you Hunter."

"Hunter?" I heard Ashton ask. I looked up and he was staring daggers into Zayn who was just smiling amused.

"Could you stop that?" I whispered to him? He glanced down at me and handed me the cookies.

"Sorry, forgot we are all supposed to miserable." He smirked.

I really was ready to kick him in his face.

Stop being an annoying shit Zayn.

"Are you ready to go?" He asked. I looked at Zayn and smiled softly before turning to walk away.

"Thanks for introducing me Shorts." Zayn yelled as I walked away. I held my hands in my head and sighed. Why does everyone like to cause so many problems.

"Why didn't you introduce him?" Ashton asked as the lady rung up our stuff

"Because I chose not to create drama. You already don't like that guy." I said.

"I don't like any guy that can get you alone within fifteen minutes and start a conversation you don't even want me to hear about." He said.

"Why do you just assume we were talking about stuff I wouldn't want you to hear? If you had asked I would've told you. I tell you everything." I said. Lies. Lies. Lies. When will they end?

"Why don't you ever talk about what's going on your life? Like you've known about Melody for weeks and you just now told me." He said.

"My life just too complicated to think about it. So I pretend that the only life I have is with you. You're my life." I shrugged. He looked down at me and then back up. We didn't talk anymore. He just drove home and took the groceries. I took a shower and washed my hair. When I got out Ashton wasn't there. I sighed and looked up when my phone rang.

"Hello?" I asked shutting my eyes.

"Shorts!" I heard the caller say. I groaned and ended the call. I really didn't want to talk to him. My phone rang again and I pulled the phone to my ear and pressed answer.

"We must have gotten disconnected." Zayn says.

"No I hung up." I rolled my eyes.

"You know what your problem is Shorts? You don't want to let anybody in. You're so good at keeping your feelings in a box that when you feel something different or there's someone who generally wants to be your friend you throw that box away for no one to see. Because you're a bitch." He said.

"Thanks. I really needed that."

"I know. I'm here for you." He says.

"Why? All I did was ask you for some damned cookies!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah, you chose me out of everybody else."

"You came up to me!"

"What did you say about technicalities?" He asked sounding rather amused.

"You make my life hard." I sighed.

"Give me an hour. Come meet me at the café next to the market. One hour." He begged.

"No Zayn. How did you even get my number?" I asked.

"I typed your name in to Google and it went to your father so I told him I had your wallet and would like to know what number I could call to return it and he gave me this one."

"You do know I don't like you, right?"

"This is why you don't have friends." Zayn says.

"I have friends." I said rolling my eyes. Why was I arguing with him?

"Really? Like your overprotective shirtless boyfriend?" He asks.

"Don't talk about Ashton that way. And stop calling me." I said hanging up. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. Something about his persistence made me smile. Everything else I found beyond annoying. I heard my phone ring once more and I groaned picking it up.

"Zayn I swear to every God that if you call me one more time I-"

"It's Michael chill." I sighed and closed my eyes massaging my forehead.

"Oh, hey what's up?" I asked clearing my throat.

"Whose Zayn?" He asks

"Just some loser who won't leave me alone." I said.

"Hah, ok so how's the lake?" He asks.

"It's beautiful. I just wish Ashton would come and enjoy it with me." I sighed.

"Trust me he's wanting the same thing." Michael says.

"Anyways, what's up with the surprise call?" I asked.

"It's Camille, she's driving me insane. She's all I think about. I can't eat or sleep. I can't even focus in math. My parents think I'm sick but I think I'm dying." He said.

"Michael, you're in love."

"Shut the fuck up. No I'm not. I don't love anyone. Especially not that two timing volleyball princess." He said.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Max Andrews and his money swinging no good parents."

"So you're mad she has a boyfriend?"

"I'm mad she has a husband. They are planning to gets married after high school and own the family businesses of both of their families."

"Doesn't Camille have brothers? Charlie and Cameron?" I asked.

"First to get hitched first to get the job." He said softly.

"Tell her. Tell her what you really feel. If even then she chooses Max then it just wasn't meant to be." I said shrugging.

"I guess. Ok I'll let you get back to your yelling." He snickered hanging up. I sighed and leaned back into the couch. I just wanted Ashton to come back. Come back and hug me and kiss me and tease me. I wanted him back.

I looked up from the television as Ashton walked in. He looked at me and looked away. I stood up quickly jogging to the bedroom. He was walking around fixing things mindlessly. I stood between him and the closet holding him in place as much as possible. He seemingly gave up when I glared at him.

"Talk to me. Yell at me. Bark, meow, quack. Do something. Ashton I need to know we are ok. I need to know you still want me. I need to know you still trust me.I need to know you still love me." There was a long silence. It was just there no mood it was just there.

"I can't stop falling in love with you. Even if I tried I couldn't. I'm still very much in love with you Hunter." He said.

"Forever and always?" I asked. He pressed his lips to mine pulling me closer to him. It was a make out kiss it was a kiss. A kiss that fixed anything that might have been broken. Even it nothing was broken now I was sure we were ok.

"Forever and always." He smiles kissing my forehead one last time.

"Are you looking for something?" I asked.

"Um, I kinda bought you a dress." He said scratching the back of his neck. I quirk an eyebrow at him. He starts to blush.

"Ashton? Where are we going?" I asked slowly.

"It's a fancy restaurant. I have a surprise for you."

"I swear to every God! Ashton! We just talked about this."

"You talked, I listened."

"Not very well." I grumbled.

"You can plan another one." He promised me.

"Ashton," I groaned falling onto the bed.

"But remember the speech about loving each other. It's in the bathroom. Get ready." I glared at him and sighed.

Inside the bathroom I didn't even look at the dress. I just got washed up. I didn't think this whole thing was happening. You know when you have a dream and you're in that half and half kinda trance. Ashton made me feel like that. Happy and relaxed but there. I dried my hair pulling a comb through it. I took my curling wand and wrapped my hair around it tightly leaving myself with crinkled curls. I held my breath as I laid the dress on the bed. When I opened it everything would be real. Every kiss, every touch, every whisper of love would be confirmed. We were on this ride together. Sadly I already knew how it would end. I pulled the zipper to the dresses covering down exposing the strapless red dress that stopped mid thigh. The breast part of the dress was sequins. I frowned and sighed. The dress was beautiful. If I ever thought that Ashton was anything other than the sweet mess of a boy he is I was obviously wrong. I slid the dress up my body and looked in the mirror.

"I hate you." I said staring at the girl standing in front of me.

"I hate you, because you're hurting Ashton. You need to be honest with him." I told myself. I looked down and swallowed. I was going to tell him tonight. Tonight he would either hate me or still love me and I would be free of all the pressure.

"Hunter are you-" Ashton stood in the doorway wearing a red button down shirt and a black pair of slacks. He was smiling at me laughing to himself.

"What?" I asked covering myself with my arms. He walked up to me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"You look beautiful." He said kissing my cheek. I chuckled and nodded.

"Thank you." I said blushing at the floor.

"We should leave soon and also your phone keeps ringing." He says handing it to me. I look at the number and sigh. It was probably Zayn. I pressed the number and immediately called him back.

"Shorts? Wow I didn't expect you to call me back." He said chuckling.

"What do you want?" I asked annoyed.

"I just wanted to apologize, sometimes I get into things that I'm not quite ready for. I just try to latch on to interesting people and I'm way to forward. Is there anyway we start over?" Zayn asked.

"Sure, I've gotta go but we can talk later or something." I said hanging up. I walked outside and sat in the car with Ashton ready to move on to this date.
