Leaves of Lines [Poetry collection]

A compilation of my poetry ranging across the board. [I'm not depressed, by the way]

So far, these are all published as separate movellas, so you can either comment here on the whole, or if you want to leave comments on a specific poem, feel free to find that one in my list. Either way is fine with me! Photo cred: https://www.flickr.com/photos/109065142@N02/sets

32. Smiling Down [Christmas comp]

I see everything.

I see the snow, thick and white,

I see the lights, colorful and bright.

I see the people cheerful or not,

I see the food, steaming and hot.

I see the decorations, lively and red,

I see the children herded off to bed.

I see the note, scrawled and scribbled,

I see the milk, and the cookies nibbled.

I see the stockings, bulging and stuffed,

I see the  “santa” cloaked and muffed.

I see the presents, peeking under the tree,

I see everything, and everyone sees me.

From my perch on the tip of the green,

I’ve watched all, and all I’ve seen.

I’ve seen the manger lit, the music played,

I’ve seen the ornaments hung, the skirt laid.

I’ve seen the babies grow into adorable kids,

I’ve seen the bags, boxes, wrappers and lids.

I’ve seen the family at the very start,

I’ve seen the gifts given from the heart.

I’ve seen the tireless efforts done in good cheer,

I’ve seen it bring about what is before me here.

Every year, I will see it once more,

I’ll see the wreath hung on the door.

I’ll see the kids count down the days,

I’ll see them grow up, change their ways.

I’ll see them stop leaving Santa a letter,

I’ll see their wrapping skills get better.

I’ll see them stop staying up all night,

I’ll see them asleep at the flick of a light.

I’ll see their excitement for presents diminish,

I’ll see them wait patiently for others to finish.

I’ll see their fervor and haste decline,

But it’ll be okay, it’ll be just fine.

Because I’ll never see their spirits dim,

I’ll never see their faces grim.

I’ll never see them lose their cheer,

I’ll never see them miss a year.

I’ll never see them bicker and fight,

I’ll never see them lose their light.

I’ll never see them crying and sad,

I’ll never see them as anything but glad.

You might wonder how I know these things,

Is it because of my halo, or angelic wings?

In all honesty, it is neither of these,

but knowledge from sitting atop these trees.

The years have passed, and I have seen,

I bore witness to the Christmas scene.

One thing I’ve found that’s true, year after year,

Is that no matter what, happiness is here.

Despite disaster, mistakes and blunders,

Christmas is filled with miraculous wonders.

From far corners of the state, the country, the earth,

people gather together, come home to their hearth.

I’ve seen things get bad, I’ve seen them go wrong,

but despite it all, they’ve stayed strong.

They turned their hardships into a bond,

and pulled together, the scene so fond.

Say what you will about humanity and man,

but I’ve seen a lot in my life’s span.

Christmas is a time of spirit and heart,

and nothing can ever tear that apart.

So now I resume my place on the tree,

and I’ll watch another year pass by me.
