14. Final Battle

Kirby and his friends rushed through a tunnel to see a most wonderful sight: the mast! The last part!

"I'll get it," said King Dedede. He picked it up and brought it to Kirby.

"There's something fishy going on..." said Kirby warily. "It's too easy."

"But what could it be?" Meta Knight said. "I mean, the cannons back there rotated to let us pass..."

"Not so fast."

Kirby looked up as the part jerked out of his hand. An eerie sound echoed through the vast corridor and there, behind them, stood the Grand Doomer! His blank, semicircle-shaped eyes, along with his red, fiery body terrifying. Just the sight of him made Kirby shiver. The part floated into his mouth, keeping it wide open as he began to speak in a hoarse, roaring voice:

"You have wiped out all my minions. The bosses that stood before you were formidable monsters, but they weren't good enough, were they? You thought Magolor could leave our planet. That's why I've come kick your ass!"

With a swift swoop, the Grand Doomer landed in front of them. "Copy Abilities will not save you this time, Kirby! All my minions have fallen." He breathed three fireballs at his opponents, (who were lined up) but Kirby inhaled two of them and spat them at him. Meta Knight cut the third in two.

The Grand Doomer flew toward them, hoping to burn them...but Kirby warned the rest to duck. When he landed, King Dedede gave the first blow with a charged hammer attack.

The Grand Doomer rose into the air and dropped fireballs the size of boulders! Kirby and King Dedede took care of them as Waddle Dee threw a spear at their foe. King Dedede's hammer sent the balls flying as the Grand Doomer returned to the ground. Kirby could feel their heat as they hit the ground and exploded.

The Grand Doomer disappeared behind four swirling circles. "Let's see if you can guess which one I'm behind?"

The circles disappeared quickly and the Grand Doomer shot out of the last one. His side scraped King Dedede, but he quickly got up. Once the Grand Doomer landed, Kirby's friends laid down suppressing ammunition--Waddle Dee battered him with his spear, Meta Knight slashed him repeatedly, and King Dedede hammered him as fast as he could.

The Grand Doomer roared in pain, feathers floating about him--and swooped forward, nearly crushing Meta Knight. It's lifescale was halfway gone.

It summoned a huge array of fireballs, then directed them at Kirby. Kirby ate them all and spat them out at the monster.

The Grand Doomer disappeared...and was replaced by a smoking, swirling hole that moved back-and-forth across the ground. "Fly! Now!" Kirby shouted.

Meta Knight and King Dedede made it to the top, but before Waddle Dee could take off two black jaws emerged from the hole and caught Waddle Dee, pulling him into the hole. Kirby watched with horror as Waddle Dee screamed, out of his view. Suddenly, it spat out Waddle Dee and slammed his weak form into a wall.

Waddle Dee was wounded.

Kirby and the remaining two bashed at the Grand Doomer. Kirby didn't care what the Grand Doomer would do next, what minions he might send out...he only cared about killing him so he could rush over and help Waddle Dee.

Finally, the Grand Doomer took its last hit. Its limp, screaming form flashed different colors...and with a flash of light it exploded, leaving the mast behind. Kirby could not believe it...he would not believe it...the Grand Doomer was gone! The mast was now his!

Now he rushed over to Waddle Dee. "Waddle Dee! Are you all right?"

Waddle Dee moaned. Kirby picked him up. "Take the part to the Starcutter! I'll follow you there."

"But what about Waddle Dee?" asked Meta Knight. "Will he live? I just can't bear--"

"Don't worry, pal," said Kirby. "I think he'll make it."
