3. Chapter 3

Mr. Bringston was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for Izzy, hands formally behind his back. He stood next to a glossy, black car with its engine moaning, ready to go.

“Your driver will take you back to your apartment, Izidroa. You will be expected to come to the palace, the day after tomorrow in the morning to get further information from the High Lord before you leave on your contract.” Mr. Bringston chattered, opening the car door for Izzy lightly.

“Okay. Thank you.” Izzy replied, sliding into the car, closing the door behind her with a slam. On the ride back to her apartment, she pulled out her phone. She was bombarded with impatient voice messages from Maggie.
 - Hey! Where are you? I’ve been waiting here for over twenty minutes -
Each seemed to get more aggravated as they went on.
 - Okay, really! Where are you? If you didn’t want to hangout you could have just said -
-Ok I’m leaving and going back home! -
Izzy sighed and dialled Maggie’s number frantically with her thumb. She placed the phone to her ear, staring out the window and watching the people in the streets strolling.

“Hello?” Maggie said, picking up the phone.

“Hey! Look I’m very sorry for ditching you! First I got in a fight with a group of guys who couldn’t keep their scummy hands away from me, then a government officer came and got me and took me to the High Lord and the-“ Maggie immediately interrupted.

“Wait! Hold on! The High Lord? What did he want? Are you in trouble?”

“No, no! Don't worry. He wants me to go hunt this guy down that’s on the outside of the city walls. I leave the day after tomorrow. And I don’t know when I’ll be back” she explained.

“Ohhhh. Well in that case I’m coming over since I don’t know when I’m going to see you again.” Maggie finished, before she hung up.
By the time Izzy was off the phone, her driver was just pulling up in front of the huge skyscraper that her apartment was in. It was glossy with glass, reaching to penetrate the clouds. Izzy jumped out of the car, slamming the door behind her and walked towards the door, ruffling through her bag to get her access card. Flashing the card by the scanner, there was a loud buzzing and a click as the door unlocked. Inside, the floor was shining like a mirror, the front desk right in front of the door and to the left there was a glass chamber. Izzy walked towards the glass chamber and stepped inside, her heels clopping and echoing off of the gleaming walls. As she stepped inside, the was a blank , black screen in front of her. She slowly put her flat hand on the screen, letting a blue line run up and down the screen, underneath her palm, eagerly detecting her. After two seconds, the door shut behind her gently with a hiss and the platform she was standing on started to move up towards the top floor where she lived.

She reached the top, with the lift gently stopping to a halt. Izzy could see Maggie impatiently sitting on the black leather sofa through the polished glass. Maggie snapped her head to Izzy in the glass lift like a dog acts to the sound of its owner calling.

"Heya Maggie." Izzy muttered, stepping out of the lift.

"Hi Izzy!" Maggie cheered back to her. Izzy flopped in the sofa next to Maggie, spreading her arms around the back of it. "So, you've got another contract to fill? This is the problem with being friends with a bounty hunter." Maggie giggled.

"Well come on now, its from the High Lord! I'm gunna get a whole load of cash for this I bet."

"True. But who are you looking for this time? A bandit, a criminal, an assassin?" Maggie questioned with eagerness, sitting on the edge of her seat. Izzy shrugged back to her.

"No clue. The High Lord just said he's a danger to the city and the light of civilisation or something." Izzy muttered, bouncing her two fingers and speaking in a sarcastic accent. Maggie laughed, still on the edge of her seat.

"Wow. Must be important."

"Yeah, but I've probably dealt with worse guys before." she said arrogantly.

"Just promise me you'll be safe Izzy. Please." Maggie pleaded, staring into Izzy's eyes.

"I will Maggie. I promise." Izzy finished, as they hugged in a heart warming goodbye.
