"I had no other choice," Arya Afsar Ajram

18. Chapter 15: Poetry and Literature

Arya’s P.O.V.

“I see you’ve arrived,” someone says from the second floor.

“Have they all left?” I ask looking up at Prince Zayn.

“Yes, they all just got out of the gates,” Prince Zayn replies looking out the window.

“Oh, this is a beautiful library,” I say in awe at the volume of books.

“Do you like to read?” he asks picking a book up.

“Yes, I love reading; I could spend hours in this room with pleasure,” I say looking around the room.

“Me too; do come up,” he says motioning me to get up the stairs.

“What’s your favorite genre?” I ask climbing up the stairs.

“Adventure, yours?” he asks.

“Mystery, adventure, and romance,” I reply with a smile as I see his desk with a map of Ajra and many mystery and adventure books.

“You can try this one then,” he says picking up a book from his desk.

He hands it to me, The Missing Piece by T.R. Luke (A/N: I made it up it doesn’t exist).

“I’ve read it; it’s a really good book,” I reply with a smile.

“It’s one of the more romantic mysteries. How about this one?” he asks handing me two books.

One of them has dark brown cover with black words, The Abandoned Letters by Hans Silver. The other has a nice red maroon covered book with golden words, The Lost Mistress by Stephen Ryder.

“Thank you, I’ll read these tonight, in bed,” I say with a smile.

“A habit?” he asks curiously.

“Yes, that’s when I always read,” I reply.

“Me too,” he says with a smirk.

“I heard you like to write, your highness,” I say with a smirk.

“Me? No, I heard Princess Arya writes,” he says quickly stopping realizing that Arya is dead.

“Umm really? I didn’t know that she wrote,” I say sadly.

I do write sometimes but he doesn’t know.

“Yeah that’s what I heard. How come you don’t know? I thought you two were close,” he says dubiously.

“Umm she never told me,” I say nervously.

“Oh I heard she wrote poems,” he says walking closer to me.

“Oh is that so?” I ask showing no interest.

I clearly wouldn’t know right?

“Yeah, I also heard you write some too,” he says halting right in front of me.

I totally forgot Soraya wrote too.

“Me? Oh no, no, no I don’t write,” I say with a slight smile.

“Don’t be modest; I heard you write some of the best poems,” he says with a smile.

“Oh no not me; I think we should get to the tactics now, don’t you?” I say trying to save myself.

“We have all day for that, don’t try and avoid my questions,” he says with a smirk.

“Oh well okay then,” I say nervously.

“All I want to hear is a poem,” he says walking back to the chair behind the desk.

What does he expect me to do? Write a poem? How do I get out of this?

“So you want me to write one now?” I ask surprised.

“Yes,” he states as if I should know that was his intentions.

“Umm may I get some time?” I ask.

“Of course, would you like to go on a walk while you think?” he asks with care.

A walk might help me think better.

“Yes, please if it will not be a bother,” I say thoughtfully.

“Wonderful let’s go,” he says taking the books from my hands and placing them down on the desk.

“Yes, lets,” I say as he leads us down the stairs.

“Well, where would you like to go?” he asks as we reach the door.

I ponder for a moment before answering “the pond would be good.”

“Wonderful choice,” he says leading me to the pond.

“So do you plan on attacking Ajra or just defending Zailaan?” I boldly ask as we reach the pond.

“Umm I want to just defend but if my father tells me to attack I might have to,” he replies sadly.

“Oh, so it isn’t up to you, is it?” I ask.

“No, not really. Do you want me to leave you alone for a bit?” he asks nervously.

“I don’t mind company but if you have something to do then by all means do go,” I reply.

Zayn’s P.O.V.

“No it’s just I thought you could use some time to think that’s why I was asking,” I say quickly.

She looked at me for a moment as if she was deciding if she wanted to be alone or not.

“Oh I don’t need to be alone but if you have work to do I can find my way back to the palace,” she says with a pause.

“Your Highness,” Samar says coming towards us.

“Yes, Samar?” I ask.

“Your Highness, a messenger came from Zailaan for you,” Samar says.

“I’ll be right back,” I say to Lady Soraya.

“Do take your time,” she says with a smile.

As I walk up the pathway behind Samar, I keep looking back at Lady Soraya, who starts to  play with the water.

“Your Highness, if you permit me asking…” Samar starts hesitantly.

“What is it Samar?” I ask permitting his question.

“Why are you smiling? Do you like her?” he asks.

I hadn’t noticed I was smiling until Samar pointed it out.

“I don’t know Samar,” I reply as we enter the palace.

“You both would make a good couple sir,” Samar says daringly.

“Thank you Samar,” I say walking away to the grand room.

“Your Highness, King Yaser says he with meet you here later for he has fallen ill,” the messenger says.

“Okay, tell my father to recover I have it under control,” I say after a moment of deliberation.

“Yes, your Highness,” he says leaving with a bow.

Oh Allah please help my father, please heal him faster, please let him live longer and let him teach me how to be a good leader.

Arya’s POV

I wonder if everyone is okay in Ajra. What if Prince Zayn has to attack? What will happen when he finds out that I’m Princess Arya? Should I tell him? No, no, no I can’t, I’ll be hung for sure. I’ll be in trouble if I don’t have a poem by the time Prince Zayn comes back. Now what should it be about? Hopelessness? No, because you should always be hopeful. Forgiveness? No, because that is a very important topic and an amatuer like me shouldn’t write about it. Helplessness! Yes, I feel very helpless so this is the perfect topic. Helpless… how I feel about being so far away yet so close and I can’t do anything to help my people.

*10 Minutes later, the poem is finished*

I have a poem written atleast it’s something. I know it’s not the best, I know but it’s something. Where is Prince Zayn? Should I go back?

“Your Highness,” I hear a voice from behind.
