How To Feel

She wakes up and feels for the first time. It had never happened before. It's an experiment and there are more like her. Now she just needs to find them.

8. Pain is Gain

We stood for five minute, the time passing as slow as mollasses. The air heavy with concern, anger and almost every uncomfortable feeling possible. Confusion filled my mind. I had no idea what to say and I'm guessing neither did Connor. The air grew colder as the sun continued to set. Exaustion was filling my mind as I began to sink to the ground, ignoring how dirty the gum covered sidewalk was.

"Aednat" I froze halfway to the ground. No one ever used my real name. Ever.

I turned slowly, still half way to the ground. A tall man in a trench coat stood over me a smirk on his face. Glancing over to Connor I saw panic and fear quickly bring him back to reality. Obviously he wasn't going to be much of help

"What do you want" I mumbled looking around to see who was watching. His smirk grew into an out right grin as he responded.

"What I want is for you to come quietly. What I need is to get you to come with me by any means possible." His eyes were filled with glee as he smoothly pulled a taser out of his pocket. Options ran through my head, none of them good. Glancing over to Connor, confusion filled my mind. He stood glaring at the light post, as if it had done something to insult him, then in a split second the light went out, and a bright glow appeared in his hands.

"Sorry no can do" I exclaimed. I swung my leg into a roundhouse kick as the man shoved the taser forward, it connected with my foot and pain arced through my body. A million pins and needles shoving me toward the ground. I collapsed in pain as the manturned to Connor.

"You're not gonna make me do that to you, right?" The man giggled, he actually gigled after seeing me in pain. Connor stood up straight and glared at the thug.

"Leave us alone" he commanded

"If you insist" the man continued to laugh as he thrust the taser at Connor. The poor guy didn't even see it coming. It connected with Connor's side and visible electrical currents arced up Connor's body, and yet Connor stayed standing. The only difference was that the orb of bright light in his hand, was a lot bigger and his eyes had turned an electrifying gold. Realization filled my mind and I shoved myself onto my feet. The thug turned to look as I made a pathetic attempt at a lunge, trying to knock his feet out from under him. Just as the taser was about to connect with my arm, again, Connor's hand connected with the guy's neck. This time the thug's body convulsed as he collapsed. The combined electricity of the street light and the taser brought him to his knees in an instant, passing out a second later.

"Are you okay?" Connor exclaimed, kneeling next to me. I stared in disbelief at the man collapsed on the street.

"How long have you been able to do that?"

"I don't know, I guess I've been able to since I was sixteen" He replied, concern painted across his face.

"And you tell me now" I heaved myself into a sitting position.

"Here let me help you" Connor reached over to grab my shoulder and I froze.

"No. I can do it myself" hurt flashed across his face for a second and then dissapeared. He took a step back and continued to stare at the man.

"We should get going"

"Where can we go?" I replied

"Let's go to my house"
