16. I Might Be A Little Late

Carrie's POV

Soda wasn't moving and I thought for a second, breathing. He stood perfectly still, looking right at me. You could tell he was trying not to cry or yell. I was shaking just waiting for a response from him but he never spoke.

Then he ran out the door. Pony was coming in but was shoved out of the door by Soda. He was gone in two seconds flat.

"Soda please come back!" I ran over to the door and watched as he ran out the yard and across the street. "I only slept with him because he made me!"

Soda didn't even slow down and he was getting away. I tried to run but all I could do was a quick walk. But that didn't even help because I was out of breathe by the time I got to the front gate. Dally came behind me and walked me back to the porch.

"Look, I'll go get him with Pony. You stay here! And don't worry about Soda, he won't do anything stupid to himself!"

Dally stood back up and motioned to someone inside. Pony came outside asking a million questions but Dally stopped him.

"Dally, what is wrong with my brother? Why did he just run out of the house? Why-"

"Look, Soda is really upset and we just have to get him back to explain something to him. That's all I can say. You're a track star, so it shouldn't be hard for you to catch up with him."

Then they were off, leaving me on the porch. The front door opened and Darry came out.

"Hey, why is there glass all over the kitchen floor?"

I tapped the chair next to mine, "Just sit and let me explain."

Belle's POV

I tried to step back but couldn't. I felt the truck hit my side with a bang. I could feel my body flying backwards onto the ground. My head snapped back and I instantly saw stars.

I heard gasps from the swarm of people in the crowd. Then the doors of the truck opened and closed. I lifted my head and saw two men in long black pants and blue shirts step out. One with black hair came over to me and the other one with red hair went to the back of the truck and pulled out an orange box.

"Hey! Are you okay? Sorry my partner hit you. We're paramedics and we were coming back from an emergency. Don't get up, just lay down."

I did what the man said as the other guy came over and put the box down next to me, "I'm Roy and the man you already met is Johnny. Can you move your toes and fingers?"

I moved both my fingers and toes, "Yes but my right hip hurts a little. Other than that, I'm absolutely fine. I just got the wind knocked out of me."

I put my head back and just relaxed. The only time I listened was when the paramedics asked me to do something or if something hurt. Other than that, I just sat my head back and asked myself: How am I going to tell my parents I was just hit by a truck?

Before I knew it, the guys were helping me up and off the street. I felt a bandage on my hip and something like an icepack. The crowd had pretty much disappeared in the few minutes I was on the street. It would've been nice if the sidewalk had been like that before!

Roy asked, "Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital and get your hip checked. I mean its not bad, but its better to be safe than sorry."

I shook my head no, "No, that means I'll have to explain to my parents what happened and I don't want  you guys losing your jobs. You guys are really nice!"

Johnny laughed, "Well, if that's all, we'll get going. Just stay off that hip for awhile."

They picked up their orange box, hopped into their truck, and drove off. I picked myself up and started back to my hotel room. Maybe I'll leave the shopping for tomorrow. I'm sure we'll have time to shop right before we leave.

I think I'll get back to that sleep I wanted before!
