Gone (a One Direction murder mystery)

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards' wedding is coming up...or is it? When Perrie goes missing while One Direction is on tour, Zayn and the boys turn to Private Investigator Shannon Adler, on whom Zayn develops a crush. Zayn's determination to find Perrie's kidnapper escalates when he finds her dead in the woods.

5. Chapter 5

Eleanor and Sophia ran back outside just in time to see Zayn end the call with Shannon.  “Lads, the house has been robbed!” Eleanor freaked.

“What?!” all five boys exclaimed.

“Do you think it’s the same person who killed Perrie?” Zayn asked.

“I don’t know, but let’s look!”

They all went inside, and sure enough, Zayn noticed the mansion had been ransacked.  Not only was the plasma TV gone, but the display case holding their awards had been broken into and emptied.

Remembering the engagement ring he’d bought Eleanor, Louis rushed up to his room to see if it was still there.  It wasn’t.

“Bloody hell!  The ring’s gone!” Louis exclaimed without thinking.

The others joined him.  “What ring?” Eleanor asked.

Oh, shit!  “Oh, um…uh…”  Louis had no way to save himself, so he just sighed and told his girlfriend the truth.  “I was gonna propose, and now the ring is missing.”

Eleanor gasped.  “First, they kill Perrie, and now this?!  Zayn’s right!  The killer must die!”

“We have no way of knowing the killer did this,” Liam pointed out.

Shannon parked in the parking lot of the airport and got out.  There were planes flying overhead, both departing and arriving.  Inside, people were walking in every direction, their luggage in tow.  She went straight towards the ticket counter and waited in the long line.  When it was finally her turn, Shannon introduced herself and asked the employee about flights that had come in from Detroit on the night of July 4th.

“There were several,” the employee said after she conducted her search.  “Is this about the Perrie Edwards case?”

“Yes,” Shannon said.  “Do you know if any of them had a passenger called Parker?”  Just then, her cell phone rang.  “Just a minute, I’m getting a call.”  She picked up her phone.  “Adler.”

“Hey, it’s Zayn.  We just found another clue,” she heard Zayn say.  “Whoever had written the note recorded over one of our new songs.  It’s a girl’s voice saying, ‘I wouldn’t try to find me if I were you.  I know you’re looking for me.’”

“Did she have an American accent?”

“Yes, she did.”

“Ah, I see.  Thanks for the information, Mr. Malik.”

“You’re welcome, love—Miss Adler!”

Shannon hung up and turned back to the ticket employee.  “I need to know if there were any female passengers by the name of Parker on one of those flights from Detroit.”

The employee looked under Shannon’s criteria.

Meanwhile, “Parker” landed back in Detroit just before 11 pm, Detroit time.  She couldn’t believe she’d literally gotten away with murder!  Soon, she’d have that pesky Shannon Adler dead and Zayn Malik to herself.
