She's not Afraid

Charlie Evergreen isn't your average 19 year old. She was taken when she was thirteen, kidnapped by some of her closest friends. She was taken to a secret compound, far in the merciless regions of the Mojave Desert.
That's when the truth came out. That almost 500 children are taken every year, mostly from poorer homes. The agency Charlie was at, had missions to retrieve those kids, to step in when the police failed.
So she joins. When she turns 19, she gets a mission. To kidnap Niall Horan, world-famous boy band star, and recruit him. How hard can it be?

11. Chapter 11

I was released from the hospital a few days ago. The pain in my abdomen hasn't lessened, but I still had to be questioned by police. It was fairly painful to recall the details.

Mostly, the police were a little suspicious of the fact that I had a knife. I improvised and said "I wanted some form of protection if I was outside after nightfall. I'm not a moron!"

Nevertheless, the man pleaded guilty. In a two-hour interrogation, he admitted to everything, down to the last ghastly detail. He was jailed and is being diagnosed for mental illnesses.

I now have a jagged scar on my belly. I never liked crop tops and such, but it's still a bummer. I have a collection of scars from other incidents, but none are as prominent as this one.

I sighed and went upstairs and get dressed quickly. I went and plopped on the couch. "Rough morning?" Chloe asked, sitting next to me. "Not really, just the ghost pains bothering me."

The doctor warned that I'll feel pain in my belly for a few months. She subscribed some pain medication, but I knew that it'll be a rough few months. With all the physical exertion being an agent costs, I don't know if I can afford to be in pain while an enemy is firing bullets at me. Fatal problems here.

"Want medication?" Sara asked, appearing with a glass of water and a pill bottle. I groaned. Those pills were large, and taking them required much discomfort. I clearly didn't like wedging stones down my throat, so I didn't like these.

"You gotta take them." Chloe sighed. I accept the water and the little white oval monster. Placing the pill on my tongue, I take a gulp of water. The pill slid down my throat and I winced.

"Good job." Sara said. I slumped back on the couch. "Did you all update your files?" I said tiredly. They nodded in a half-monotone way. "Here!" Sydney said, tossing me my manila file as she walks to the bathroom. I open it and inscribe with a blue pen I found wedged between the couch cushions.

A few days ago, I was attacked. I wanted to scope out the area a little more. Yeah, no more of that for a while. The attacker held me down. He was a grown man, maybe twice my weight. I delivered a deep gash in his forearm, but I got a deeper cut in my belly. I was hospitalized for a few days. I have to take pain meds for a while now :(.

I shut the folder. I absolutely loathe paperwork. I slumped on the couch. I dozed restlessly for a moment, and I sensed the girls leave the room.

I heard the doorbell ring. I ignored it. It was probably the deliveryman. Sydney ordered a knife sharpener. She left hers at the compound apparently. That's Sydney for you.

"Hey Charlie?" I heard and Irish brogue speak. I opened my eyes quickly to see Niall standing in the door frame. "Hi Niall.", I greeted. Niall took a seat next to me.

"Feeling better?" Niall asked. I nodded "The pain medication really helps, even when it can be a pain to swallow.". Niall laughed. "Wanna watch a movie?" I suggested.

"No horror." Niall agreed. We spent the next fifteen minutes trying to decide on a movie. Finally, Chloe came in with a blindfold that she 'found'. She tied it over her eyes, and picked out a movie.

When she set it down for us to see the movie cover, I laughed so hard my stomach was in agony. Yeah, she picked Mean Girls for God's sake!

"I've never seen this." Niall studied the cover. My jaw fell. "Mr. Horan, you need to see it now!" I demanded. We slid the movie into the Blu-Ray player.

Basically, to sum it up, Niall and I spent the movie leaning into each other for support. Niall laughed especially hard when the Candy Gram scene rolled around.

"Good for you Glen Cocoa!" Niall gasped. This made me laugh harder. The most memorable moment is when I laughed so hard I began to shed tears of laughter.

All it took was for Regina George to say to Karen "Boo, you whore.". I finished my little episode. Niall stared at me. I felt a little self consius at that point. "Something on my face?" I asked. Niall seemed to come out of a trance "You're beautiful."
