Dance

“I’m sorry, I followed you.” Aarorn blurted blushing, the bright red colouring his cheeks making him look younger, before I had a chance to ask him how he had found me.

“Huh?” I asked, my brain was still foggy and was having a hard time concentrating on even the smallest things.

“I was about to start my duties in the kitchen when I heard what Beterm said to you. I left as soon as I could find a way and followed you.” Aarorn spoke quickly and fluidly, a sign of his nervousness.

“Why?” I had been overthrown – I was just a half fairy girl now. One that everyone thought was dead.

“You’re the Queen.” Aarorn shrugged like it was the simplest explanation in the world.

I scrutinized him closely watching as he smiled shyly.

“You should go home.” I stated.

I honestly just wanted to wallow in my fate – I would die eventually from lack of socialization and lack of joy and revelries.

Aarorn shrugged and sat gracefully on the floor, determined and stubborn to stay with me.

In the distance the palace lit up like a Christmas tree, all the lights came on at once and I knew this was the call for all fairies far and wide to hurry to the palace.

Beterm was announcing my death.

Not even five minute4s later Beterm’s voice flooded the kingdom, his words and tone where sorrowful as he described my death – I had apparently jumped from my balcony and they had decided not to hold a funeral as my body was just too far gone to be presentable. As soon as was polite Beterm announced his coronation – to be held in just one hour’s time.

I shook my head and looked at Aarorn and his expression. He was about as pleased as I was about this new development.

We sat in silence for a long time, and then the music started, the first few songs where sad and where customary when a ruler had just passed on. Beterm only allowed me one song before he ordered the music changed – the tempo increased and the voices of the band began singing; the new King had been crowned.

I was too busy staring at the palace to notice Aaron standing in front of me, offering his hand.

I cringe back, but he didn’t seem to notice or care. He simple pulled me up from my sitting position and placed his hand on my waist lightly while gripping my small hand in his. He kept his distance from me – for which I was grateful. I wasn’t sure I could handle being in close proximity with anyone at the moment.

“What are we going to do?” I sighed deeply, and shook my head, as far as I can tell there was nothing to do.

“We can fight back.” Aarorn shifted suddenly and his eyes became fierce, protective but most of all loyal.

“How?” My voice broke and it seemed to remind him that underneath all my fairy training and ability I was still somewhat human with human doubts and concerns.

Aarorn smiled wickedly. “We’ll find his enemies and dethrone him just as he did you.”

I could feel my eyes widen in shock – this was a side of the sweet, shy boy I had never seen before. But, all Fae could be dangerous when they wanted to – when something they cared about was threatened.

We are a very protective species.

I laughed at how weird Aaron looked when he was feeling protective. His boyish face and bright, vibrant gold eyes and angelically blond hair all seemed wrong for how dangerous he looked in that moment.

It took him a moment to go back to normal – as it usually did – and then when he saw me laughing he smiled before laughing with me. It was a quiet laugh, but deep and rather beautiful in the way it made him look.

After one more dance Aarorn disappeared – with a resolute promise to be back soon.

I sat against my cave wall and closed my eyes briefly – trying to push the painful memories away, to lock them in the secret little compartment of my mind where I kept all things too painful to remember.

The music from the palace died down in the early hours – and I smiled in the thought that things were not going as well as Beterm had hoped. When we held my coronation ceremony the people danced for three days straight. And this was after a two day funeral for the previous Queen.

Aarorn returned soon thereafter with two single mattresses and some of his own clothes. He smiled at my shocked face and set up the beds on opposite sides of the cave.

I shook my head and slowly disfigured what had become of the hairdo Celine had so expertly done only hours before. When I had slipped the diamond studded pins into my back pack I slipped into the bed, peering over at Aarorn who was as still as could be.

“Felaine…” Aarorn called from the encroaching darkness.

“Yes Aarorn?” I asked, but no answer came except for the sound of his snoring softly.

I chuckled to myself and closed my eyes – promising to fight against the nightmares that so often invaded my dreams.

I heard the laugh first and felt my body freeze. I wanted to run – I wanted to fly - but I could do neither. Instead I had to stand stock still as the man circled me – approvingly apparently because he sneered in my direction.

“You are so goddamned tempting.” His voice boomed from where he was standing and I wanted to scream.

How could I be tempting him when I was in a dark green long sleeve shirt and floor length skirt?

The man wrapped his arms around my middle, caging me in his arms and kissing down my neck all the while telling me how beautiful I was, and how he was going to stay with me forever.

After a while, the man stepped away and stood in front of me, a light hand caressing my face and I stared into the green eyes of Dantor and I wondered how I could have ever believed him in the first place.

“I love you, Felaine.”

A/N

Of course you loved her Dantor, of course you did.

Aarorn's a little cutie - but all Felaine want's is to let it go and cry.

But Queen's don't cry so she has to suck it up and deal with it.

Next few chapters we see Aarorn and Felaine fight back.

Hopefully this plan works!

Tata for now!
