14. Babysitting Lux

Charity’s POV

The next day, I was released from the hospital.  That was also the day the guys’ hairdresser brought her daughter Lux over.  This is awesome!  It’s a great opportunity to show Daddy that Liam and I can be good parents! I thought.

The young hairdresser dropped Lux off at noon and told the guys she’d be back at ten to pick her up.  Unfortunately, she forgot the guys had rehearsals today, so that left me and Sam to take care of her.

“Charity, I’d like you to meet someone very special to us.  This is Lux,” Harry said, giving her to me.

“Jazzy!” Lux said, holding her hands out.  I’m guessing she can’t say “Harry” or “Hazza” yet.

“Aw, she looks even cuter in person!” I gushed, bouncing her.  “I’ve seen her in pictures all the time. You must really love her.”

 “We do,” said Liam.  “Okay, love.  It’s time for her lunch now, she takes her nap at two, she eats dinner at six, and her bedtime’s eight.”

“Okay,” Sam and I said in unison.

“Uh-oh!” Lux said.

“Uh-oh?  What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked.

Liam laughed.  “Oh, that just means she needs a diaper change.  Come on, I’ll show you how to change it.”

Sam and I followed Liam upstairs and into a small pink room.  There was a white crib against the wall adjacent to the window, and directly to our left was a changing table.

“Now, she doesn’t like being changed, so we sing her one of our songs.  Since you probably know all the words to all our songs, this should be a piece of cake.”

I giggled.  “Okay.  What’s her favorite song?”

“She really likes ‘Little Things’.”  Liam took Lux and laid her down on the changing table.  “First, obviously, you take the dirty diaper off.  I’ll let you try.”

“Umm…okay.”  I did the same thing I do with panties.  I slid the diaper down Lux’s legs and took it off that way.

Liam laughed.  “That’s one way to do it.  Now, turn her over and wipe her arse with one of the baby wipes underneath the table.”

Liam walked me through the steps to change a diaper, and then he showed me how to do other things, like feed her.

By one, Liam had taught me and Sam everything we needed to know about Lux.  “We’ll be back around eight, love,” he said, pecking me on the lips.

“Okay, have fun,” I said, kissing him back.

The guys left, and I shut the door.

~~~~~
Everything went surprisingly smoothly that day.  That is, until it was time to put Lux to bed.  She made a complete fuss when Sam and I were trying to give her a bath.  As soon as she heard the water running, she realized what was going on and started crying.
“Lux, don’t you wanna smell nice?” I asked her.
“NO!” she screamed, almost kicking me.
I attempted to put her in the bathtub full of lukewarm water, but she clung to me.  That’s when I remembered what Liam told me to do—sing one of their songs.  I started singing as I put her in the bathtub.
You’re insecure
Don’t know what for
You’re turning heads when you walk through the door
Don’t need makeup
To cover up
Being the way that you are is enough
By the second chorus, Lux had calmed down to the point where I was able to wash her hair and scrub her body.
After her bath, I dressed her in her nightgown, took her to her room, and sat in the rocker with her.  Then, I rocked her back and forth while I softly sang “Little Things” to her.
Your hand fits in mine like it was meant for me
But bear this in mind, it was meant to be
And I’m joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me
Suddenly, someone joined in with the next part.
I know you’ve never loved the crinkles by your eyes
When you smile, you’ve never loved your stomach or your thighs
The dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I’ll love them endlessly
I looked up to see Liam standing in the doorway with his phone.  “How much of that did you hear?” I whispered.
“The whole thing,” Liam said.  “I took a video of it, and I’m sending it to your dad to show him how good you are at taking care of a baby.”
“Aw, you’re so sweet.”  I gave Liam Daddy’s cell phone number.
