Maggie's BOYS

"Starting over is easy.....said no one....ever!"

Follow me... as I embark on a new, crazy and utterly insane road to self-discovery as a MENTOR/HANDLER/TBD for the super group One Direction. Be there as I forge relationships with these five young men, learn who I bond with and who I don’t. Heart strings are pulled, buttons are pushed, and lines are crossed. Is this the excitement and adventure that I had in mind or am I on a journey that is destined for disaster.

5. New York!

Flying in a plane is nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be, especially since I am in friggen First Class. I was nervous as hell only two hours ago, almost to the point of throwing up nervous. It may also be due to the fact that I have not slept in over 24 hours. My flight was schedule to depart at 7:15am, so I arrived at around 5:00am and since it’s a 2½ drive from my home to the airport, there was not very much time left to sleep, not to mention the fact that I was so damn excited I couldn’t even see straight. However, a few moments after I stepped onto the plane my nervousness suddenly disappeared.

The flight attendants were so helpful and friendly and totally put me at ease right away. I was offered food, drinks, a pillow and blanket, one girl I think her name was Leslie even offered to give me a manicure and pedicure. I would have absolutely taken her up on her offer too if I hadn’t just had one a few days earlier.

The rest of my three hour flight was comfortable and enjoyable, I found myself looking out the window being lost in my thoughts most of the time though. I can’t help but wonder what these people are going to think of me. I can only hope that they see me as a strong confident woman, not the scared little country girl that I truly am.

Once I landed I was directed to the baggage claim area to collect my belongings and per Nina’s instructions I was to wait there.

As I was trying to organize my three suitcases I could hear my name being called from somewhere behind me.

“I am Maggie,” I say out loud as I see a woman with light pink hair running up to me.

“Hi, err…hello Maggie, I’m Paige. I am Nina Cabbott’s assistant and I am here to pick you up,” said the attractive out of breath young woman.

“Hi Paige,” I say as I hold out my hand for her to shake. “It is nice to meet you.”

“Likewise,” she says. “And on behalf of Modest Management I would like to welcome you to New York City.”

“Thank you very much.”

“So how was your flight?”

“Oh it was fabulous, I kind of felt like a “Princess” in a fairy tale, I was so spoiled. Did you know that they had chocolate covered strawberries in First Class?” Did I just tell her that I felt like a princess? Oh God Maggie, stop that, I say to myself.

“Well Maggie, you haven’t seen anything yet.”

“What do you mean?”

“Oh girl, we have got a ton of fun activities planned for you while you’re here and the first activity will begin in about two hours, so we need to hurry and get you settled into your hotel room.”

“Oh okay, when will I meet with Nina?”

“You will see her in the morning at 11:00am, so I can’t keep you out too late,” she says with a wink and a grin.

We finally make our way outside and I follow Paige to a big black suburban. There is a rather large muscled man that is leaning on the hood of the truck and I am assuming that he is waiting for us.

“Paul this is Maggie, Maggie this is Paul,” Paige says quickly as Paul takes my luggage.

“Nice to meet you there Maggie,” he says. I think I hear an accent, maybe British?

“Nice to meet you too Paul, so…. are you from England too?” I can’t help but ask. Ugh…there I go again, why do I always feel the need to ask dumb questions.

“No, I am from Bray, County Wicklow in Ireland, but I spend so much time with these British boys I guess our accents get sometimes blended,” he says as he helps me up into this gigantic vehicle.

“Oh I see, so…...the boys in this band are British?” I ask coyly.

“Aye, no you don’t sweetness, Nina would have my hide if I told you anything about the boys, your just gonna have to wait, good try though,” he says laughing.

“Oh God I am so sorry, I don’t even know why I ask you that, it just came out.”

“No worries doll, I’d wanna know too.”

“So Maggie is this your first time in New York City?” Paige asks me. I know she is just trying to change the subject to get me out of this awkwardness. I am beginning to really like her.

“This is my first time…..anywhere, other than Florida…once…when I was a kid,” I say to her.

“Oh wow, I bet this is a culture shock for you?”

“A little bit,” I say as I’m looking out my window at all of the huge buildings that are passing by.

“It will be ok, that feeling of being overwhelmed will pass soon, I promise.”

“If you say so,” I say still staring out my window.

We arrive at what I guess is my hotel and I am utterly speechless. The words on the building say “The Waldorf Astoria”. Paul puts the monster truck in park and comes around to open my door. He offers his hand to help me so I don’t fall out. Once on the pavement my eyes are fixed on this incredible site, I am in awe.

“I...I’m staying here?” I manage to spit out.

“Yes you are,” Paige giggles.

Another man dressed in a dark uniform style suit approaches us with one of those luggage carriers. He takes my luggage from Paul and places it on the platform.

We begin to follow him when Paul approaches me and takes my hands in his. “Good day to you Miss Maggie it was indeed a pleasure to meet you and I do hope you enjoy your stay New York City.” He says as he places a very light kiss on each of my cheeks.

“Thank you very much, it was good to meet you as well.” I say as I watch him turn to leave.

“I like him, he was very nice and funny, I do hope I get to see him again before I leave,” I say to Paige.

“Oh I am sure you will, he is the Tour Manager and Head of Security for the boys,” she informs me.

“Ah, is he now?” I say to her with a bit of bite in my voice. “That tidbit of information would have been nice to know a little earlier.”

“You’re so cute, what fun would that had been though?” she says with a grin.

“We totally need to loosen you up, you’re wound way to tight. C’mon wait until you see your suite.” She says as she grabs me by the hand practically dragging me behind her.

“Wait, what about my things?”

“Don’t worry he knows the room number.”

As she drug me through the hotel lobby arm in arm I was only able to catch quick glimpses of my surroundings. I could clearly see that wonderful artwork lined the walls, beautiful sculptures and statues stood without restraint amongst the décor and the furnishings were lavish. I honestly could not wait to get back down here so I could slowly take it all in, and take pictures of course.

The ride up to the 15th floor was eerily quiet, I guess I was just so lost in my surroundings that I completely muted everything around me. I could see that Paige was talking to me but all I could manage to do was nod at her enthusiasm.

With the chime of the elevator door opening I was thrust back into reality. I apologized to Paige for my lack of attention and she just laughed as she once again took me by the arm to guide me down the long hallway in the direction of my room.

Suite 1555 is what is etched on the very impressive, very large double doors and there are subtle yet beautiful carvings that outline the edges. “Oh my God Maggie snap friggen out of it already,” my subconscious is now yelling at me, “It’s a fucking door!”

I quietly laugh at myself as Paige hands me my room key. “What’s so funny?” she asks.

“Me,” I say as I put the card in its slot and pull down on the golden door handle. “I am just laughing at myself.”

I take a deep breath to prepare myself before I attempt to step across the threshold into my room, but I am frozen. From the entrance I can already see that this room…err… suite is more lavish and luxurious than anything that I have ever…..“What the hell!” I say as I’m practically falling through the door. I catch myself before I actually fall on my face and I turn to see Paige standing in the doorway with a huge grin on her face. “What the fuck was that for?” I cry out showing definite signs of irritation.

“I thought you needed a little nudge,” she says with a chuckle. “We’ve got places to go and people to see and we don’t have all day for you to stand out in the hallway admiring everything you see.”

“Fair enough, but damn did you have to push me so hard?"

Paige is still laughing as she crosses the room and opens the double doors leading to the adjoining bedroom. She flops herself down on the king size bed then looks up at me and says. “It was a nudge, not a push.”

“Yeah, yeah whatever, so…what are we doing this evening?” I ask flopping down beside her.

“I can’t tell you that.”

“Because it’s a surprise,” she announced.

I can't help but like her she is spunky, I can tell that we are going to get along just fine...Maybe.

My luggage arrived a few minutes later and Paige said that she was leaving me for the moment so I could get settled. She also warned me not to spend too much time oohing, aahing and oogling over everything that I saw because I would have plenty of time for that later. She has such a way with words, but for the record I don’t oogle…and is oogle even a word? She then said that I was to meet her in the lobby in one hour and gave me her number just in case I had any trouble.

I was glad to have a few minutes to myself and yes I did take a minute to ooh and aah over my surroundings, how could I not. This room was not like any hotel room that I had ever seen before, well maybe in the movies, I’m not really sure. This room has its own living room equipped with two sofas and two chairs a 50 inch TV with a DVD player and some type of gaming system and games, a complete kitchen with a fully stocked fridge and cabinets, a fully stocked bar and dining area, and a huge bedroom with another huge TV and it has a sofa too. However, I think my favorite is the bathroom, yes the bathroom, but more specifically the bathtub, I could live in that bathtub. It was so huge it could fit two maybe three people, I couldn’t wait to get in it and try it out.

I look at my watch and I see that I still have about thirty minutes before I need to be downstairs, so I take the time to freshen up a little. I decided to change out of my jeans and into something a little dressier but still casual. I chose a pink flowy cotton dress that I paired with my jean jacket, brown wedged heels and matching purse. I added a couple of bangle bracelets and a cute white gold heart pendent necklace with matching earrings. I pulled my hair up in a bun and left a few strands of wispy curls loose against my face. To finish off my look I added pink gloss, touched up my mascara, and I lightly ran a little blush across my cheek bones and T-zone.

Satisfied with my appearance I grab my purse, phone and room key and head to the lobby to meet Paige. Filling my mind up with ideas of what she could have planned for us, I remind myself that whatever it is I need to remain calm and to not act so friggen awestruck at every cool object that I see.

Upon stepping off the elevator I see Paige immediately, she seems to be talking to someone on her phone. As soon as she sees me she ends her call and walks towards.

“You look awesome Maggie!” she says gleefully.

“Well thank you Paige, so do you,” I say returning the compliment.

“So are you ready to hit this town?”

“Abso-friggen-lutley!” I say as I loop my arm with hers. “So what are we doing first new friend of mine?”

“Well new friend, do you like Jimmy Fallon?”

Stay calm…

“Good”, she says smiling. “Let’s head out, our car is already out front waiting for us.”

We make our way outside and sure enough there was a sleek black Mercedes waiting for us. I half expected us to have a driver, but Paige explained that we would enjoy ourselves more if we didn’t have to worry about feeling responsible about someone always waiting for us.  It would also allow us to take our time and remain guilt free, I definitely understood her logic.

As we get ready to tackle the streets of NYC, Paige explains that we would first go to a taping of Jimmy Fallon and after, we had reservations for dinner at Carmine’s. “Do you know who the guests will be?” I ask her, knowing that she probably wasn’t going to tell me.

“Yes……”, she says in a drawn out voice.

“Are you going to tell me?”

“No……”, she says in the same voice, but this time with a grin.

“Why not?” I whine.

“Because it’s a surprise.”

“Ugh…” I utter as I push my bangs back out of my eyes in frustration. “I don’t know if I can handle any more of your surprises.”

“Oh sure you can, just be a little more patient, the best is yet to come.”

“And…what would that be?” I stupidly asked, because I already knew the answer.

“It’s a surprise,” she says giggling.
