5. Chapter 5

"Liam where is the cake?" Zayn shouted towards the living room. Liam came in with a huge rectangle cake, half blue and half pink. Both of the twins' names were engraved into the cake in white icing. Sara's eyes lot up at the sight of it. I sat her down in her high chair, putting her bib on. Niall sat Louis down next to her, his eyes lighting up as well.

We all started singing and they both laughed as there eyes stared at the huge cake.

"Okay guys!" Liam cheered. He cut a square of cake from each half of the cake. "Time for cake!" He placed the blue piece in front of Louis and the pink in front of Sara. Automatically, they smashed their hands into the cake, stuffing their fists into their mouth. Everyone laughed as Liam started to pass out the rest of the cake.

"Here." Harry said handing me a plate with blue cake. I took a bite, the chocolate sending me to heaven. "Where's Carrie?"

I tensed at her name.

"She left."

"Why?" He asked clearly confused. I sighed.

"She tried to get close and I rejected her for the millionth time." I scowled putting the cake down. He gave me a disapproving look.

"You can't push away forever Lou."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "I don't care. Forever isn't realistic."

Harry patted my shoulder. "I know that after Anna you don't want anyone close but you can't live in fear."

"I'm not living in fear! I just don't want to get hurt again. I can't do it." I spit harshly. Harry rubbed his temples in frustration.

"Humans fear the unknown because they are afraid of failure."

"Shut up." I scowled taking another bite of my cake. "Your not a metaphorical genius Styles."

"And your not a coward Tomlinson." He shot back taking a bite of his cake. He laughed quietly to himself.

"What's so funny?" A blonde girl asked. She looked at Harry shyly, her gorgeous blue eyes looking down at her feet. Harry laughed again punching my shoulder lightly.

"Just me and the Tommo joking around."

She smiled, her pearly white teeth flashing slightly. Harry smiled as well, yet it didn't quite reach his eyes.

"What's your name love?" I asked knowing Harry wouldn't.

"Oh, where are my manners, my name is Bella Nelson, I'm Niall's friend." She reached her hand out and both me and Harry shook it lightly.

Harry and Bella started to chat so I went over with the twins, trying to wipe off the cake that was all over their small bodies. There must've been more on them then in their stomachs.

I looked up to see a blonde haired blue eyes woman staring at me. She looked exhausted, as if she had just traveled the whole world in a day. She looked familiar.

"Can I help you?" I asked frazzled. I knew her from some where.

"I just figured I would come to see my grand kids." The woman responded.

I clenched my fists tightly together. She needs to leave. How does she have the audacity to come here?

"Get out." I demanded, my voice low and harsh. She smiled and threw her plate away.

"That's no way to treat your mother in law." She smirked venomously. I wanted to punch her.

"Me and Anna were never married. We were best friends."

She laughed mockingly and crossed her arms over her chest. "Serves her right. Having a child so young with a complete stranger is an abomination. She got what she deserved."

I took a deep breath and clenched my fists harder together. "Get the fuck out now!" I screamed. Everyone turned towards me. I could feel my face burning, my cheeks probably bright red. Someone put their hand on my shoulder but I shrugged it off, never breaking my deadly stare.

"Oh Louis, you can't push away forever. Anna wouldn't have wanted that." She mocked turning towards the door. Before she closed it she said, "Have a nice life. It's better without her in it anyway." With one more laugh she shut the door.

Stares remained on me as I walked to the back door. The outside air was refreshing and I could already feel the heat leaving my face. I sighed and sat down in one of the patio chairs. It wasn't long before Harry came out and sat across from me.

"Who was that Lou?" He question.

"Anna's mom."

Harry's face turned pale. "Mary? Why was she here?"

"She wanted to see the twins." I scowled. Harry sighed and ran his hands through his curls.

"She shouldn't of came here." He snapped pushing his chair out. "After everything she did to Anna and Tanner, she doesn't even deserve to be on the same planet as them."

He stormed inside, slamming the glass door behind him. I sighed and closed my eyes briefly. Opening them, I looked blank towards the bright blue sky.

"Anna," I whispered. "why did you have to go? I'm a screw up."

Something rumbled near me and I jumped. Carrie was standing by the chair Harry had previously sat in, guilt plastered on her face. She gave me a small smile.

"I'm sorry. I just heard you talking and I don't know." She mumbled unsure. I rolled my eyes and pushed my chair out.

"Where are you going?" She asked grabbing my arm. I jerked her away and reached for the glass door.

"Inside." I stated opening the door. Before I entered I heard her whisper.

"Your not a screw up."

That's all it took for me to slam the door and sob.
