Chapter 2

Liam helped me into his car carefully. I pretended that I wasn’t having a heart attack every time the beautiful man touched me and decided that if he thought I was acting weird, he’d chalk it up to a concussion.

He drove in silence, the only noise between the two of us was the soft sound of classic rock coming in through the radio. I listened to the faint tapping of his fingers on the steering wheel.

“Don’t you need my address?” I asked softly, realizing he probably had no idea where I lived.

“Oh, uh, yeah.” He furrowed his brows making his whole face look utterly and adorably confused. I quietly listed the numbers to my house and the street name, waiting for him to put it on the GPS or something. He didn’t. Maybe he knew my street?

An uneasy feeling in my stomach formed.

“You missed the turn.” I pointed out quietly once Liam whizzed past the street that was connected to my street. He glanced down at me warily for a second.

“Oh yeah. I, er, know a different way.” He shrugged, moving his gaze back to the road. My heart instantly clenched up. I don’t even know this guy. Why the fuck did I get in the car with him? He’s kidnapping me. Holy shit, he’s kidnapping me!

“That’s ok. You can pull over here and I can walk the rest of the way.” I insisted softly, wanting nothing more than to bolt out of the car.

“It’s no trouble for me.” He responded, making no move to comply with my request. The panicking feeling started to overwhelm my body. I took one look at him and then started pulling on the door handle urgently. Of course it was locked.

“What are you doing?” He asked me quickly, reaching over with one hand, while the other remained on the steering wheel, to grab my wrists and hold them together in one hand.

“Let me go. Please.” I whimpered, yanking my wrists this way and that to try to release his hold. He complied, letting me free, but not before double checking that the doors were locked. I bit my lip to hold back the tears of fear and glanced down at my hands.

Be rational.

Would Daniel’s older brother really kidnap me? I mean, sure, I don’t know him, but Daniel is the nicest guy I know, so how can his brother be bad?

When the car came to a stop, I looked up and took in my surroundings.

Son. Of. A. Bitch.

“I’m not going.” I informed him, glancing nervously between Liam and the building to my right. He chuckled darkly before unlocking the doors and climbing out. I debated making a run for it, but I knew damn well that I’d just get dizzy and then Liam would catch up to me and drag me back.

Once he slammed his door shut and began to come around the car to my door, I leaned over and pressed the ‘lock’ button. He tried to open my door, but couldn’t. His brow furrowed as he tried again.

He looked up at me, and our eyes met through the car window. He raised his hand and waved his keys back and forth. His thumb pressed down on the ‘unlock’ and he quickly swung the passenger door open again.

Well, it was worth a shot.

“Did you seriously think you could lock me out of my own car, love?” He shook his head in an amused disapproval. His whole body leaned against the car, his head ducked down into the doorway so he could look at me.

“I’m not going.” I repeated, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Yes you are.”

“No, I’m not.”

“Yes. You are.” He hissed, obviously my three-year old argument tactic was pissing him off. Good. Let him be pissed off.

“No. I’m not.”

“Dammit, Caelynn. I don’t ‘ave bloody time for this.” He snarled, taking a step back from the car.

“Then take me home.” For a second I thought he would comply and end this madness, but of course he didn’t. Liam stretched his arm out under my knees and wrapped the other around my back. Roughly, he tugged me out of the car.

I pounded my fists into his chest, but it didn’t seem to have much of an effect.

“You can’t force me to go in there!” I shouted at him. He just let a cocky smirk consume his features.

“Actually, my dear, I can and I am.” I hit him some more at his response.

“I’ll tell everyone in there that you’ve kidnapped me! That’s illegal in America, by the way you Brit-wit.”

“A Brit-wit?” He laughed, ignoring my threat completely.

“Yes, a Brit-wit. It’s like a nit-wit but the British version.”

“Listen, we ‘ave no idea what kind of damage you could be sufferin’ from so we’re goin’ to get it checked out, yeah?”

“YOU’RE going to be the one suffering if you don’t put me down, you Brit-wit.” I crossed my arms over my chest to try to look intimidating, but that was hard considering he was holding me like a doll to his chest as he walked.

“That a threat?” He laughed.

“Well, no offense or nothin’, but I’m not too afraid of a girl who just fell from a second floor balcony due to ‘er clumsiness.”

“I didn’t fall.” I scoffed, trying to stand up for myself. He obviously thought I was some retard who just trips over her own two feet and ends up flying off of a balcony. As embarrassed as I am, it all seems ten times worse in the presence of someone who is as perfect looking as Liam.

When I felt Liam’s arms stiffen, I knew instantly that I should have just let it go.

“What-d’you mean you didn’t fall?” He asked roughly, his voice angry and dark.

“Nothing. It’s fine.” I muttered quietly, regretting my decision of saying anything.

“No. Tell me. You didn’t fall? Alright then, who pushed you?” His voice was low, but harsh. It scared the bejesus outta me.

“No one. I fell.”

“You suck at lying, d’you know that? I’ll ask again and I better get a response- who. Pushed. You?”

“No. One.” I mimicked the way he spaced out his words. His eyes narrowed down at me, but I pretended not to feel afraid.

“It was that bloody ex-boyfriend of yours, wasn’t it?”

“It was an accident.” I whispered, trying to stand up for Alex. I knew he didn’t mean it and it was partially my fault anyways.

“Now, I don’t like cursin’ in front ‘a ladies, but that’s bullshit sweetheart.”

“We were arguing, and-”

“That’s no excuse. I knew ‘e was a complete scumbag when I saw ‘im.” Liam shook his head, crossing through the threshold of the doorway.

Damn, he had distracted me from what was actually going on and now I have no way out.

I hate hospitals.

“Oh dear, what happened?” The woman behind the ER desk asked once she saw Liam carrying me in.

“Nothin’, a minor fall, that’s all.” Liam smiled sweetly at her. She nodded and filled out a form before handing it to Liam.

“I’ll tell the Doctor you’re here. Just fill that out for now.” Liam nodded her and walked over to the waiting area. Carefully, he set me down in the seat against the wall and sat down next to me, preventing any chance of escape.

“Full name?” He asked me.

“No.” I rejected. If I was going to be here, I was going to make it as hard as I could for him. Stupid beautiful British people think they can just drag a person to a hospital against her will? Fucker.

He just rolled his eyes at me before putting his hand on my butt. I let out a gasp, but he already removed his touch, my wallet, stolen from my back pocket, in his grasp.

“Caelynn. C-A-E-L-Y-N-N. Francine. F-R-A-N-C-I-N-E. Jacobs. J-A-C-O-B-S.” He spelled out loud as he filled out the hospital form. He finished the rest of the form using my driver’s license as a reference.

“You’re only 5’4”?” He chuckled, filling out my height.

“Not everyone can be tall, dark, and handsome, you know.” I spat, still pissed off that he brought me here. He laughed at my response. I noticed he did that a lot- laughed at whatever I say. I must be a fucking comedian.

“You think I’m ‘andsome?”

“Really? That’s all you came up with from that response?” I answered his question with another question, avoiding the fact that I did, in fact, find him gorgeous, completely. He got up briefly to hand in the filled out paper but sat back down before I was finished planning my escape.

“You’re not goin’ anywhere.”

Damn. Did I make it that obvious?

“I hate hospitals.”

“Even with me ‘ere? Well, I’m offended by that. I think we’re ‘avin’ fun.” He teased me, obviously trying to lighten the mood. I couldn’t help but crack a smile. A smile broke out on his own lips, seeing my response.

“See, I tol’ you we were ‘avin’ fun.”

“I’m only laughing at you because of your accent.” I informed him. He threw his head back and laughed obnoxiously.

“You’re laughin’ at me proper cockney accent, are you? Well, you’re accent don’t sound too impressive either. So there.” I narrowed my eyes, but before I could respond, a nurse came up to us.

“Caelynn F. Jacobs? Right this way.” Liam hopped out of his chair and tried to help me out of mine, but I slapped his hands away and followed the nurse.

As it turns out, I did, in fact, have a concussion. It was for that fact only that Liam got away with bringing me here. I kept telling the Doctor I was kidnapped, but he thought I was only teasing.

“You don’t know what you’re saying- you have a concussion.” Liam laughed with the Doctor. Stupid men. I honestly wanted to take a syringe and stick it in his eye, but they were all out of my reach.

After receiving instructions to rest up for the next few weeks and get lots of sleep, the Doctor sent us on our merry way. When Liam finally pulled up to my house, he insisted on walking me to my door like a gentleman. Most gentleman don’t force women into hospitals, but I let that one slide.

“I’ll see you around, yeah?” He asked me as we paused in my doorway.

“Considering I’m the maid of honor and you’re the best man at Daniel and Georgia’s wedding, I would assume so.” I shrugged. He shook his head and reached into his back pocket.

“’Ere. I stole your phone while you were getting’ probed by the Doc,” “I took it upon meself to put in my number and text my phone from yours. If you ‘ave any problems or need anything, you give me a ring, yeah?” He handed me back my iPhone.

“What the- how did you- Stop taking my stuff!” I snapped, clutching onto my phone desperately. He only laughed at my reaction and pulled me in for a hug.

“Listen, that Alex guy ever bothers you again, call me and I’ll deal with ‘im. Cae- no one ‘as the right to ‘urt you. And no one pushes their girl over a balcony by accident. Just watch out.” He warned, giving me a kiss on the cheek before heading into the night.

I glared at his retreating figure for a while before going inside and slamming my front door, hoping he’d hear that I got in safely. Knowing him, Liam probably thought I would find a way to injure myself from the short step on my porch into my house.

And knowing me, he’s probably right.
