4. Back To Normality

At the checkout, I gave a cashier everything I wanted to buy and Dan said he had seen a buddy and wanted to greet him. He left and I was hanging on my thoughts, the cashier said the price and I paid.

When I took the bags, I casually asked, "Do you know what the girls were talking about?"

The woman thought for a moment and then said, "The girls... Oh, yeah! Don't you know who was here?"

"Some Justin, right?" I said, and her eyes almost fell out.

"Some Justin? That was Justin Bieber!" she said, and expected a surprised reaction that never came.

"Bieber?" I dug deeper and looked even more confused.

"You don't know Justin Bieber?" she asked and I shook my head.

"It's a singer who is at the moment at the very top! Never heard of him?" she said, looking at me still with a blank look.

"No? Uh, no, for real. Never," I said and she looked at me puzzled.

"Wow, you're probably the only one in the whole world. But it's no matter anyway," she said and shrugged.

"Thank you for your purchase," she added and greeted the next customer who pushed himself past me.

I shook my head, took a sip of my Frappuchino and tried to forget the conversation.

I had other problems than not knowing some famous person.

I looked around for Dan and discovered him with Jessica. I looked at her with narrowed eyes and saw, of course, as she threw at him seductive looks.

As confident as I could, I went to the two and to put an arm around Dan, as Jessica was saying "... but well, you have to know."

Dan rolled his eyes and said, "Believe me, Jess. I know best what is good for me."

Now I joined the conversation. With a sugary sweet voice I said "Jessica, hey. What are you doing here? Are you lost? The rubbish containers are standing outside." I smirked, but she just rolled her eyes.

"Then what are you doing here?" she asked and I laughed shortly.

"My parents can afford that I can shop here. And as you can see it was once again successful," I said, and lifted the bags.

She came closer to me and hissed, "At least I'm not as cocky as you."

"At least I don't chat up on taken boys. Dan is mine. Stay away from him. I can bargain your anyway bad reputation even further down so that you have to change schools. Hold back, bitch," I said, leaning back relaxed.

The feeling of having control over the situation, gave me strength.

Jessica drew a sharp breath and asked "How did you just call me?!"

Dan looked at me and shook his head slightly when he said "Melody, that's enough now. Come on, let's go..."

But I ignored him and answered Jessica innocently "Well, by your name, dear. Stay away."

Furious, she stared at me and Dan said briefly "Bye, Jess," and pulled me out of the store before we started to beat us.

When we arrived at the hotel there were still a few fans in front of it, so we went on the safe side and took the back entrance.

While Kenny drove, I typed a message to Selena quickly. How much I would miss her and that I couldn't wait to see her again. With every word I hoped that this would be true.

Kenny stopped right in front of the door and I strapped me down, but remained seated.

"Kenny, I'm sorry about-" I began, but he interrupted me.

"It's okay, I understand it. And now go," he said, smiling.

Thankfully, I smiled back and quickly climbed out of the car.

In the hotel I knocked impatiently against our room door and cried, "Mom!"

There was no answer, so I started a few seconds later again.

The wait stoked again my thoughts and I banged on the door.

"Come on, mom!" I called again, but there was still no response.

Again I knocked, but my mom took ages.

"What's the matter with you?" my mother asked when I stormed past her into the room. I ran directly to my room and cried, "Leave me alone!"

When I reached the door I turned around again and said, "And I want us to go home!"

"Justin!" said my mom scared and then added, "I try to talk to Scooter."

I nodded and then shut my door.

Together with my laptop I dropped on my bed. I surfed a little on different pages, but nothing seemed to calm me.

I knew that I had to tell someone the truth.

Sighing, I put the laptop aside and went through my phone contacts. I finally called Caitlin, which decreased after a short ringing. She noticed immediately that something was wrong, so I told her everything. She listened to everything and dug deeper. Finally, she said what I had feared.

"Jus, you're not mad at Selena because she has met Dylan. You're mad at yourself, that's very clear. But I can understand that you are also annoyed. But look, Selena had to feel also this way when you meet me. We also had our first kiss together, we were even in a relationship and are now friends. That will always stand between us, but on the contrary to you, she has accepted it."

Caitlin always found the right words.

Sighing, I agreed and thanked her. Then we hung up and I lay on my back.

Thoughtfully, I stared at the ceiling until my phone buzzed short.

I had two messages, one of Selena and one from someone who had written to me on kik.

Sel wrote only that she missed me and would visit me immediately when I was back home.

Then I looked at kik. I had a message from a stranger. As always, I looked at the picture and it froze me almost to the bed.

The image of Melody.

But this wasn't her. I noticed a difference. So it had to be Lauren.

Lauren, of course!

Suddenly I sat up. How could I have forgotten that? A big grin spread across my face as we began to write.

In the evening I then said goodbye to her. She had told me a few things about herself and it was really cool, but completely different than Melody.

When there was a knock at my door, I called "Come in," and mom opened the door.

"I have talked to Scooter, we drive in an hour off. You have to call him at the latest in two days, so you can plan some things," she said and I nodded.

Then she left again my room and I got up to grab my bag. I went to shower and stood ready in the hallway, waiting for my mom.

"I've already checked out and Kenny's waiting downstairs," she said, and together we left the hotel.

On the plane I tweeted a little with my fans and then wrote a message to Chaz.

I missed him and the rest of the guys pretty much. I asked him when they had time and that they should also bring Chris, even though I didn't know if he still wanted to see me. I didn't want to think about this story and couldn't even, because soon the fatigues of the day were noticeable and I fell asleep.

After several hours we entered our house. Immediately I let in the lobby go of my suitcase and the bag fall at the ground and I said, "Finally back home!"

My mom whispered relieved "Home sweet home."

But then she put a hand on my shoulder and said a little strict "You'll put that away," and pointed to the mess that I had made.

"Yeah," I said smiling and dragged my stuff in my room. I just managed to clear out all my stuff away before I fell asleep again.

The next morning I was awakened by something that didn't want to go. All the time I tried to hit it with my arm, but it didn't disappear.

When I felt something touch my cheek, I muttered, "Not now, Sammy. We'll walk later... go to mom."

But he didn't go away, even though I wanted nothing else.

Dissatisfied I sighed and snuggled back into my bed. I was so peaceful and slept well and now I should be awake again.

I yawned and someone patted me on my hair. Then something touched me again on the cheek and I heard someone say, "Oh, come on, Justin! Wake up."

Actually, I just wanted to sleep, but this voice... she brought me back to reality and I slowly opened my eyes.

"Morning," I mumbled and looked sleepily at Selena. She looked as always perfect and laughed.

"Had nice dreams?" she asked and I grinned.

"Partly," I replied and yawned, then I sat up and padded into the bathroom.

Twenty minutes later I was back at her; freshly showered and a little more alert. We had breakfast and then decided to just go to the beach. Just as we were leaving the house, something came back to my mind.

"Wait a minute here," I said and ran to my room.

Before I was with her again, I called her to close her eyes. Then I peeked around the corner and saw that she had done so and waited with a smile. I put on her the bracelet I got for her and she opened her eyes. When she saw it, she was smiling wider and hugged me stormy.

"It's beautiful! Thank you, sweetheart," she said and I couldn't help but to grin brightly and held her tight.

Then we left the house and ran to Sels car. When she wanted to get on the driver's side, I began to complain.

"Can't I drive?" I asked, and she laughed.

"Nope. My car, my rules. And those include that you've ever fallen through the driving test," she said and I rolled my eyes.

"Once! I'm probably hear this my whole life from you, right? Just because you've already made it at the first time," I said, and she laughed again.

Then she got in, and I could only shake my head when I had to get in the passenger side. Selena started the engine, I buckled on and then looked down at my feet. At the bottom magazines were distributed and I picked up one, which was entitled with "Justin Bieber – Is he near to the end?"

I didn't usually read such gossip, but this time it interested me somehow. I opened the page and read the article.

Justin Bieber is lying to the press and reacts aggressive

On Monday afternoon, Justin Bieber (17) was seen in Los Angeles near a mall. As an explanation why he was there, he said he would visit his grandmother, although these lives in Canada. (...) He also responded to the question of whether his girlfriend Selena Gomez (18) was pregnant, with "Oh God, no" what his dislike of children clearly expresses. (...) He also stated that this should be a family trip, but he didn't want to take Ms. Gomez. When asked whether they would fight, he responded angrily with a "No". When he got to know that his girlfriend made a trip with her former series partner Dylan Sprouse (18), he reacted angrily and exhilarated, said only that he was happy that Selena was not alone and that he quickly had to go. In the car, he complained to his bodyguard, how much he hates the paparazzi.

Experts are the opinion that Mr. Bieber's rising fame has led him to the this and that he possibly will end like Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse.

Stunned, I stared at the article and then looked at Selena.

"You don't believe that, right?" I asked and she shook her head.

"I know that the people who ask for their stories want to make them the best and embellish they" she said. I nodded and shook my head.

"This is really incredible."

"Let's just forget this. Let's be for a day, at least one, two ordinary teenagers who love each other and have no problems... Okay?" she said. I nodded and smiled at her.

"This is a fabulous plan," I said, and now she began to smile.

At the beach we were right again besieged by paparazzi, but we ignored them.

We were asked "Why isn't she a real part of your familiy, Justin?", "What do you really feel for Dylan, Selena?", "Why do still go out with Justin?".

We were silent, simply made our way through them holding hands.

The hours passed quickly; we talked for a long time and laughed a lot. The water was warm, the day was very hot. Selena looked stunning in her bikini. I enjoyed the day and finally we packed our things and walked back to the car. We decided to go eat and drove into town. We opted for an Italian.

"Good day, what can I get you?" asked the waiter after we had a few minutes studying the menu.

"I suppose once your best pasta and a salad. A Coke and... " I said and looked at Selena.

She responded a little late and then said "... only a water for me, please."

The waiter wrote down everything and went back.

Sel looked around the restaurant and I checked my phone.

I had a new message from Chaz. He said we would find a day at which it might fit for us all and that neither Ryan nor he himself could help Chris and me, as long as we didn’t tell them what was going on. I quickly replied and then pocketed my phone.

Selena stared at the table top and I lifted my hand to her chin.

"Are you okay, babe?" I asked and she smiled slightly.

"Yeah. Just a little headache. But it will get better after I have eaten something," she said and I smiled at her.

Then came the waiter. We began to eat, but in the end I had to eat most of Selenas Salad, as she only listlessly poking around in it and no longer felt hungry. Eventually, she asked me what we wanted to do.

"What do you want to do?" I asked and she shrugged.

"We wanted to be normal teenagers. Maybe we should go shopping?" she asked and I nodded.

After we paid, we walked holding hands to the car.

"So, where'd you like to shop?" I asked, Selena smiled at me.

"Ideally in an unknown road... You know, be normal without fans, paparazzi and all that. Although I love my fans, but be normal once again... unknown," she said and I sighed.

"I know what you mean," I said, and we sat in the car.

We drove until Selena told me to stop. Now we were in a part of town where I've never been.

"Can we leave everything here? Phones and stuff? So it'll be the only two of us?" Selena asked and I smiled at her.

"Sure. Anything you want. Hm... Just us. Sounds good," I said and she agreed with me.

Holding hands we walked through the streets; everything was quiet. There were relatively few people around and most were over eighty years old. So we had to worry about much of anything before Selena moaned and jerked her head in one direction. Sighing, I discovered a couple of men with cameras, stressed faces and searching eyes. Typical signs of either fathers or paparazzi. I tapped the second and dragged Sel in a café.

We went to the restroom and I said, "In five minutes back here, okay?"

Sel nodded and we went in the respective rooms.
