The Avox Speaks

My name is Zava. I had been an Avox, a servant for about a year, year and a half, two, maybe three. I am not sure. All i know is that I had my own tongue cut out and i had been past from person to person ever since since i am still a partial trouble maker. However I had settled down since the dark days in the beginning but i am still being sold from family to family till i meet this one person that gives me a notebook, a way to speak and changes my life forever.

29. chapter 29

I placed the new picture on the wall where I knocked over the old one last time. It was a family photo of Mistress and all the surviving Avoxes that is in the group now. I could see me and Catre in the front with all the Avoxes around us that I was proud to call my family.  Every person was in their best dress even though they not be their best health wise since some of them were in a sling or had to be left out due to injury but that is ok for right now since we are going to redo it when everyone is healthy but Mistress wants a picture to remind us all what we been through.

I walked back a little bit to see if it was straight and I realized that it was and I fixed it. I stepped back once more and smiled at my work and how I am in my normal every day where instead of Avox garb.

“It’s a lovely picture of us all other than the fact that we are a little bit battered. “ Catre chimed as she came into the room.  I looked back to see that she was still wearing her white dress with her District’s colors.

“It will be rebun.”  I chimed as Catre joined me at looking at the picture.

“I hope so. Though, I do not mind looking at this one for a while.”  Catre chimed and I nodded with her in agreement.

“That is the plan for now darlings.” Mistress said as she also came into the room. She was wearing her favorite red dress that was in the last picture that I destroyed.

“evryving es oing oo be quiet since Sorrow es on.” I sighed and Mistress didn’t look saddened at all.

“Please do not bring him up anymore.” She said and I knew why. I glanced around and I knew that the place is at peace since there is a new peacekeeper is in place from what had happened.

“I foo mod mean oo ofen.” I said as I messed with the picture once more since I want it to be perfect.

“I am glad to be back in the family.” Catre chimed after a long pause between us. She sat down on the sofa gently like she hasn’t sat down for days.

“Me oo.” I chimed and Mistress started at us like she didn’t understand what we were talking about. I went over to Mistress thinking that she should know by now what we are talking about.

“What do you mean girls?” Mistress asked and she moved to a spot that was next to Catre.

“Well Zava and I always thought that this group of Avoxes was tight knit like a family is so we started to call the group that.” Catre explained what I was going to say so I left it alone.

“That is my objective.” Mistress chimed. I started to straighten the frame again thinking that I shouldn’t cry since after all that I have been through I would never change a thing since I know I have a gift of an Avox family with the gift of speech.

“Zava, you had messed with that frame long enough to where it is completely straight, you may go and do whatever you would like for a while.” Mistress chimed and I spun around embarrassed that I was using the frame as a way to think about what to say before I say it. I can see Mistress smiling like she knows what I was trying to do while Catre giggled as if she thought that the way I was acting was a joke.

This is why I love this group. It doesn’t madder what district you are from or what you were convicted for there is a place. The only ketch is that you have to deserve that place of sanctuary from either being accused of something foolish, or just being innocent. From the longtime of being in an abusive Avox home or just being different to where the realm just swallowed you whole. This place is my home that I am happy to be a part of it as well as saving it from Sorrow’s wrath.

“Yes Mam.”  I chimed before I bowed my head in more respect than anything else before I left of the room, leaving Catre and Mistress wondering why I had done that.
