17. Chapter 16

By the time I got back from the frat house, it was almost 5:30 in the morning. I fumble with the keys in my hand and open the door to my dorm room. When I finally manage to get the key into the keyhole, I'm greeted with a worried Connor sitting on my bed.

"Aria!" Connor rushes towards me and grips my shoulders. I open my mouth to say something but close it quickly. Do I really want to tell Connor? The last thing I want him to do is tell my mother where I've been all night and her freaking out.

"I... uh. I was..." I shouldn't lie to Connor anymore. I have to tell him.

"You have been drinking, haven't you?" Connor leads me to my bed and sits me down.

"Before I tell you, you have to promise me not to tell my parents." Connor sits next me and I look straight into his eyes. Connor struggles to accept the promise. "Connor." I give him a small glare.

"I promise." Connor sighs.

I decide to tell him about where I was and admit that I was drinking but I'm definitely not going to confess that I kissed Harry. I couldn't hurt Connor like that, I've already done enough damage without him knowing. "I was at a party." I look away from Connor's eyes.

"You were at a party? I though your mother told you not to."

"I'm an adult and I can do things by myself and please stop bringing up my mother." My head throbs and the mention of my mother.

"I'm sorry, I won't mention her again." Connor rubs the back of his neck.

"And yes, I did drink," I sigh. "but it was a one time thing and it started with a stupid dare. It wont happen again." I assure him.

"Are you feeling alright?" Connor rubs my back with one hand and intertwines the other with mine.

"I think I just need to sleep it off."

"Yeah, just call or text me later. " Connor starts getting up but I grab his hand again.

"Stay with me?" I beg. It's been too long since I've been comforted from Connor lying next to me, coaxing me to sleep.

"Of course." Connor smiles and climbs onto the bed, lying next me. He wraps his arms around me while my head is rested on one of his shoulders. I don't even worry about the makeup still on my face while I drift off to sleep.

"Aria." Connor gently shakes my shoulder. I groan and open my eyes slowly. Connor's friendly face is grinning in my vision and I smile back.

"What time is it." I sit up and rub my eyes. My fingers are smeared with black eyeliner and mascara. I can't even begin to imagine what it looks like on my eyes. Connor chuckles a little while handing me my small makeup bag. I easily find the blue packet of makeup remover and pull out a wipe.

"It's 11 and I would've let you sleep a little longer but your mother kept calling me to tell you to contact her." Connor says while I run the wet cloth on my eyes. "I got you some coffee and something to eat." I see the cup of coffee and bag of Chinese takeout on my small desk.

"Thank you." I smile and reach for my phone sitting on my bedside table. I didn't charge it last night and t's close to dying. I plug it in and dial my mother's number.

On the second ring, she answers. "Aria! Why haven't you been answering my calls! I was worried sick! In fact, your father and I should be over there this instant!" I hold the phone away from my ear a bit because of my mother's frantic yelling. I give Connor a thank you smile since I know he called her just to have her not drive all the way here.

"Mom, I'm fine." I sigh.

"Where were you?! Connor said that you gave him a strange phone call and then you hung up on him!"

"It was late and I was finishing some extra credit essays. I got tired and wanted Connor to pay me some company so without thinking, I called him." I sigh.

"I'm glad that you're alright but try to get some more sleep tonight. Don't work yourself sick."

"I won't, thank you mother." I watch Connor take a sip of his own coffee while flipping through one of the books I'm reading.

"Your father wants to talk to you." I hear a bit of rustling before my father's voice.

"How's collage baby girl." I can practically see the smile plastered on his face. I instantly smile at the picture in my mind.

"Collage is... good." I try to come up with the most appropriate word to what has happened the last week.

"You were at a party last night, weren't you?" The question sent me in an instant panic. How does he know? Did Connor break our promise?

"I uh... I-" I can't possibly lie to my dad. It's easier to my mother and this is one of the only times I've ever lied to her. I don't know if I can lie to my father.

"It's okay sweetheart, you don't have to be worried. I won't tell your mother." I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding at those words. "I'm not disappointed, I knew you would at one point."

"You did?" Confusion clouds my head.

"Your mother and me used to go all the time while we were in collage. She only told you not to because she wants you to be safe."

"I'm sorry." is the only thing I can think to say.

"You don't have to say sorry. Just be careful." I smile at my father's words and we exchange goodbyes.

"Did you mom find out?" Connor looks at me after I set my phone at my bedside table.

"My dad did but he's not disappointed." I sigh and get up. I still have my clothes on from last night and it's uncomfortable everywhere.

"At least you're not in trouble." Connor pulls me into a hug. I breath in the fresh scent on his cologne and close my eyes. With a quick peck on the lips, I pick out some comfortable clothes and bring my toiletry bag into the showers.

(Hey! So I wanted to update yesterday but I wasn't able to use this computer. My parents work at like 2 in the morning and they were sleeping for work so I obviously couldn't come into their room and use the computer. I tried using my tablet but it's super hard to type on it. Plus, when I tried to save, it didn't save most of the work I typed. I hope you liked this chapter though! ^-^ -Betty)
