true love

"And they lived happily ever after.." My mom finished reading me another one of my fairytales that I loved so much. I imagined what experiencing true love would be like and if I would ever get my happily ever after..

1. Fairytales

When I was little I loved for my mom to read me fairytales. I like all of them but my favorites were always the ones that ended with two people, meant to be together, falling in love and living "happily ever after."

I would imagine myself in the place of the hero in the story. I was Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty. Any fairytale character that, despite the challenges thrown her way, conquered a great evil and found what she most desired in life. I looked up to those girls and knew that one day I would find my own "happily ever after."

As I got older I guess I kind of grew out of the whole "princess thing" but I never lost the hope of someday finding true love for myself.

I became a teenager so obviously my mom couldn't continue reading princess stories to me anymore. However, the worn fairytale book still sat on the shelf above my bed, only opened when I was alone.

I would read the stories to myself and try to picture myself falling in love. I tried to imagine the feelings described in the book but guessing what love felt like would never prepare me for the actual feelings true love would later bring me.
