The Missing Hutcherson

Emma was abandoned as a child. Never knew her family. Until she was eleven years old. She finds her new family and loves them. But things are not perfect. It actually seems as if everything has gone down hill ever since she came home.

4. Getting Settled In

Emma's POV

I wake up and start heading downstairs, ready to make breakfast. But then I remember. I'm not with them anymore. I'm here. I'm home. With my real family.

I continue down the stairs, and find mom cooking something that smells really good. "Good morning mom," I say. She looks over her shoulder at me and smiles. I smile back.

"Good morning sweetie. How did you sleep?"

"That's good. I made chocolate chip pancakes cause they're Connor's favorite. You do like pancakes right?" She asks.

"I've actually never had pancakes. Or chocolate." I say truthfully.

"What?! Oh you poor girl! She needs pancakes and a chocolate bar stat." Connor says from behind me.

Connor is wearing grey sweatpants with Ryle written in orange on the top and no shirt. And Danielle wears a size-too-big Beatles shirt with orange basketball shorts. Is everything they wear related to Ryle somehow? Why so much orange?!

"Good morning Michelle," Danielle says with a yawn.

"Good morning sweetheart. And morning Connor." Mom says.

"Morning," Connor says, sitting at the bar, Danielle sitting beside him.

"Where's dad and Josh?" I ask

"Dads at work. And Josh is still sleeping." Connor answers.

"Like always." Danielle adds.

"What are we doing today?" I ask.

"We have speech and debate today," Danielle tells Connor.

"Yeah, we're getting read for the big meet on Tuesday. So we will be gone for a couple hours. It starts at one, right?" He asks her. She nods.

"Geeks," Josh says, rolling his eyes and siting down besides me and the table. "Emma, how'd you sleep?" He asks me.

"Good." I say. He laughs.

"Nobody cares about my sleeping habits," Connor says.

"I know how you two slept," Josh retorts and Connor glares at him, as Josh smirks and laughs.

"Shut up Josh, I don't want to know about the existent or nonexistent sex life of my children." Mom says. "Now Emma, me, you, and Josh are going shopping today. You definitely need some clothes for when you start school tomorrow."

"Okay," I say.

"Why do I have to go?" Josh whines.

"Don't you have that date with, what's her name?....." Connor sits there, trying to think.

"Jennifer." Josh answers.

"Jennifer Lawrence. We are going to be co-stars in a new movie, called The Hunger Games. I wanna take her out to get to know her better." Josh tells me.

"And your think she's hot," Connor adds with a smirk. Danielle punches him in the arm and his smirk fades quickly.

We eat our breakfast and then I go and clean up. Take a quick shower, get dressed, brush my hair and then go back downstairs.

Then we head towards the mall. We go into Abercrombie and Fitch Kids, Gap Kids, Justice and some places like that. I've never been in them before--well I have but I just watched Hailey shop, and sometimes Mrs. Lancaster would get me a dress, maybe even a bow!

And then we go to some places for Josh so he can get ready for his date. Me and mom give him our opinions, help him pick out some things.

We stop at the food court to grab a snack, and then head home.

Getting home, Josh goes upstairs and gets ready for his date and I join Danielle and Connor in the living room, who just got home because it's already one in the afternoon. They are watching some movie called, Mean Girls.

That's when I confess the only movies I ever saw where the ones Josh were in and the ones they played at school.

"You have not lived. One day, you are going to write down everything you haven't done yet that you should have a long time ago, and we are going to do it with you." Connor says. Danielle smiles and nods.

"I can't wait," I say and they just laugh.
