The Missing Hutcherson

Emma was abandoned as a child. Never knew her family. Until she was eleven years old. She finds her new family and loves them. But things are not perfect. It actually seems as if everything has gone down hill ever since she came home.

Connor's POV

Everything has settled down. Emma has fallen into routine, we've adjusted with the two new females in the house, and we are working on the nursery.

Danielle is now five months pregnant. I finally got to hear my little baby's heartbeat yesterday. I swear I've never felt so much joy. We saw the baby's little body and we got told everything is going just fine.

"So Emma, you've never been to a baseball game, right?" Danielle asks Emma. We have been taking Emma to do things, so she gets that kid experience that every kid her age should have already.

"Right. Never even seen it on TV." She answers.

"Well today we are going to take you to a Cincinnati Reds game. Josh is busy, so he won't be accompanying us." I tell her. She smiles. "Now go get dressed in some comfy clothes. These games are long." She does as told and runs up the stairs.

"Are you going to take our little boy to baseball games, play a little catch with him?" Danielle questions. I wrap my arms around her waist and smile down at her.

"Of course I will take out little girl to baseball games." I say, smirking.

We have this game going. She is insistent that the baby will be a boy. I believe it will be a little girl. I'm happy with either one, but I just love to tease with my girl.

"Whatever," She says, smiling and rolling her eyes.

Emma comes running down, wearing one of Josh's Reds baseball cap. I myself am wearing my Reds jersey from the last time I went.

Danielle is wearing her new Red shirts, since the old one doesn't fit. Her "small bump" is a lot more noticeable now, you can't miss it, and she has to wear maternity clothes. She hates it.

We get to the game a little early, though it's still packed, and we get our seats in the box. It's just us three today, I decided to not invite friend like I usually would.

"Connor, I'm hungry," Emma says at the top of the fifth inning.

I turn to Danielle, knowing she's also hungry by now. The baby causes very weird cravings. "Danielle-" She cuts me off.

"Yep." We know each other so well.

"Emma, you wanna come with me?" I question.

"No, you two stay here. Y'all are more interested in the game." Danielle says. Emma tells her what she wants and Danielle leaves the box.

"Have you two ever been apart for more than a day?" Emma suddenly ask me.

"Yes actually. Freshman year. She went to live with her grandmother in Florida for that whole year. Never talked that whole time because her grandmother is so strict."

I hated that year so much. Our first year of high school, when you need your friends the most, I lost my best friend. And it just sucked. Like being a freshman does.

"That must of sucked," She comments. I just nod.

Danielle comes back, hands Emma her stuff and has a pretzel for herself. She looks pissed.

"What happened?"

"The people who work here don't know how to mind their own business. This lady literally asked me if you were single and if I was like a cousin or some kind of project you have to do or take care of or something."

"Did you punch her?" I ask, sighing.

"No, but I was about to." She groans.

Reds win the game and Emma is so happy as we leave. She's smiling brightly and just talking about how she really likes baseball.

And then she gets a little too far ahead of us. "Emma! Stay closer to us, it's dark and they can't see you!" I shout after her. I don't know if she hears me or not.

But I do hear and see the car that is headed straight for her. And she doesn't. "Emma!" I run as fast as I can, and I barely register the screams as I push Emma out of the way.

I feel the moment of impact, and skidding down the paved road, and I see a lot of red and then nothing. Just black. Complete darkness.

Emma's POV

I scream as my face hits the pavement, from Connor pushing me. But that doesn't compare to the hit Connor takes.

My head starts to hurt and my vision is going in and out, and I feel a little dizzy. I can hear the car screech to a stop, hear the shouts of frantic people, one being my future sister-in-law.

I hear the ambulances in the background, and it seems like seconds later I'm being lifted into an ambulance and I look and see Connor beside me on the other stretcher.

The last thing I hear is the sound of a flatline and then everything goes black.
