The Face as Cold as Stone {APH}

Norway's face never changes.
It's just there, emotionless, uncaring, unfeeling - like Norway has shut himself off from the world, and he no longer cares. Denmark is determined to find out why.

Hetalia fanfic, eventual DenNor.

1. Chapter One

Somehow, Denmark decided, the winter made Norway look even more distant than usual. Like he was miles away, in his own world, a world where nobody cared for anybody. Of course, Norway was right there, across the table, his face unmoving and his eyes betraying no emotion as he calmly reminded Iceland that he was his big brother.

Even so, there was not the briefest flicker of emotion in his eyes, not the slightest hint of feeling. Denmark knew that if Iceland was his brother, he'd be poking his arm and demanding for him to call him 'big brother', and, depending on how his day had been going, he'd either be irritated at the Icelandic, or amused at his obvious discomfort.

But Norway did neither.

Five minutes later, Sweden - who was still insisting Finland was his wife - walked through the door with Fin behind him, looking somewhat nervous in the presence of the taller man. Norway glanced up from his discussion with Icy and Mr Puffin, and greeted them in his monotone voice.

Denmark decided that today, he would watch Norway's face, however strange that sounded, and try to detect anything. Anything at all.

Swe took his usual seat, between Denmark and Finland, and the meeting started.

Nothing. Denmark had been as annoying as usual, had been half-strangulated twice by Norway, and had still found no emotion on the smaller Nation's face.

It was now at the point where Denmark was getting pretty annoyed, because he'd done this twice before, and concluded that Norway must have a shield of unemotionlessness, or whatever the word was, over his face. Denmark liked spending time with Norway, despite the bruises, suffocation by tie strangulation, and constant insults. And if Norway felt like he couldn't show emotion before his friend, then Denmark was going to make damn sure that this was changed.

He had yet, however, to come up with a plan. A slightly worrying prospect, especially when Norway walked up to him after the meeting and asked him,

"Why do you keep looking at me?"

Denmark doubled back in surprise; he'd been an amazing spy, and he could've sworn Norway had never caught him!

"Because... Because you had a stain on your shirt and it looked really funny!" Denmark said helpfully, and then, upon deciding that Norway would most likely know if there was a stain on his shirt, changed his mind to, "No, I mean you had a spider in your hair, and I was getting ready to jump in and save you if it moved and scared-"

Denmark was cut off by tie-strangulation. Again.

"Just stop procrastinating and tell me the truth. To be honest, Denmark, it's somewhat strange."

"There was a spider! Honest! But it's gone now, so you don't have to worry!"

"And there's been a spider there for the last three meetings?"

Ah. Denmark opened his mouth to say that no, the first time it had been a centipede, but eventually decided that he'd just be strangulated once more. He closed his mouth.

"Are you going to tell me, or will I have to hurt you?" Norway asked. Denmark racked his brain for any answer. Iceland walked back into the room for a second to grab his coat, and the idea clicked.

"I was just trying to see how similar you are to Icy," he replied, earning him a scowl from the younger brother.

"I've told you before, we don't even look the same!" Iceland protested, leaving the meeting room with a final glare at Denmark.

"I doubt it," Norway muttered, and Denmark shook his head frantically, wondering how much pain he'd be in if Norway found out about his secret mission to catch his friend with emotion on his face.

"Come on, Nor," Denmark pleaded again. "Trust me just once, please?"

The Norwegian studied his face for a few seconds.

"Not likely," he replied. "But I can forget about it if you don't do it again."

Denmark grinned widely, throwing his arms around Norway like he'd done when they were kids.

Then yelped in pain as his friend twisted an arm behind his back. Just like always.

"Hey!" he whined. "That hurts!"

"That's the point," Norway replied evenly, turning away to leave. Denmark scrambled hurriedly to his feet, still determined in his task.

"Wait! I'm feeling kind of lonely. Can you come back to mine for a drink?" Denmark pulled the puppy face, and Norway punched it.

"Fine," he said. "But you'd better have some Akevitt."

Akevitt is a Norwegian alcohol. I think. I hope. 0_0

Also, I've decided to give prizes to those of you who add rthis to your favorites list. :D If you favorite, just add a comment requesting a Hetalia character to be added to the story. They might only be in it for a short time, or they might be in it longer, but I will try to put them in! :D So just put a comment down there and tell me who it is. (Prefferably a more main character, so somebody like Hungary, America, Netherlands rather than somebody like Luxembourg, but if youwant a minor character like Luxembourg, that's fine too :)) First person to fave gets to request two!

Thanks! :D
