Written in my Memory *complete*

After a tragic accident that nearly caused her death, Lia loses her memory. She can't remember anything that happened to her before that fatal day; anything except one name. One name she keeps repeating over and over again: Zayn.

1. Prologue ~ Zayn

"Where is she?!" I yelled rushing into the waiting room where Riley was pacing, looking extremely pale. She burst into tears when she saw me and I quickly stepped toward her to take her in my arms. She cried for a long time and I could feel her tears wetting my shirt.

"Come. We'll go and see her," she finally stuttered, still sobbing.

Riley grabbed my arm and led me to a small grey bedroom. In the middle of the room was a single bed on which Lia's frail body was lying. I rushed toward it and collapsed in tears beside her. I slowly moved my hand toward hers; my fingers were trembling.

"I'm so sorry, Lia," I cried.

"They don't know when she will wake up," Riley whispered as she came to my side. She placed her hand on my shoulder and squeezed it tightly. "Don't apologize, Zayn. It's not your fault." I shook my head.

"It is. I shouldn't have let her go."

More and more tears flew down my cheeks; I was unable to hold them back. I stood up and looked at Riley.

"Promise me something, Riley."

She stopped crying and stared at me with a wondering look before slowly nodding. "Anything."

"Promise me that when she wakes up, you won't talk to her about me. Promise me you will try anything to make sure she won't remember me." It was tearing me apart to pronounce these words but I had no other choice.

"What? But I can't!" Riley shook her head violently. "Why do you want me to do that? She will need you!"

"She won't... She will be better without me." A tear formed in the corner of my eye and slowly streamed down my cheek.

"Please, Riley. It's for Lia's own good. She'll be happier without me. I caused her too much pain..."

I cut her off, "promise me you'll do it." She didn't reply for a long time.

"Alright... I promise," she sighed.

I hugged her, whispering thanks quickly.

"Farewell, Riley," I muttered, pulling away.

"Farewell Zayn."

I ambled toward the door and turned around to look for the last time at Lia.

"Farewell, princess."

And then I walked out of the room.
