7. Chapter Six

My annoying alarm clock went off.

"Shut that off," a deep, low voice groaned. I screamed and feel out the bed. "Are you okay?" Justin asked me, leaning over and looking at me.

"Farrahhhh!" Allie voice yelled coming from the hallway. "You have to hide!" I pushed him into my closet. "Why?" I shut the closet door with answering his question.

The door handle wiggled a little. I followed through the first plan that went through my head: act like I was changing.

"Why is your door locked?" Allie asked through the door. I yanked my shirt off and slipped my jeans off.

I opened the door. "I was changing, Al." I said. "Good because you remember that job you were interviewed for at that small diner like two weeks ago?" She smiled.

"Yea..." I said slowly.

"They called. They want you to come in at noon. One of their waitresses quit and they need someone working her shift for the week." I squealed. "Ok, thanks!" I closed the door. I had my first job.

I could hear Justin knock on the closet door. "You can come out." I heard him sigh a breath of relief and then he crawled out. "I was beginning to get a little claustrophobic." His eyes grew big when he saw me trying to put a shirt over my half naked body.

"Stop acting surprised." I hissed. "I'm sure I don't have anything you haven't seen before."

His head tilted to one side. "We'll I've never seen a scar like that." He said staring at my side. I quickly yanked the black polo shirt over my head to hide it.

I ignored his remark. "Why are you still here? I thought you left."

"I passed out here. Stop freaking out. Nothing happened." He stretched. I nodded. "How are you going to leave?" I asked. "Are your parents still here?"

"I don't know!" I said putting an khaki pants.

He looked around the room. "I'll see ya Monday." He said, spotting the window. "You're not going out the window. That's almost impossible."

"Watch me." He grinned. He pushed me aside and opened the window. He eyed the tree beside the window. He gave me a little salute and jumped onto the tree branch.

He climbed down slowly- very, very slowly. When he reached the ground, he looked back up and smiled at me. I watched him get his bike from in front of the house and take it to the end I the street before turning it on.

My attention immediately turned as I started to do my hair. When I was done with my hair, I slipped on my favorite pair of black Vans.

I still had thirty minutes left before I had to show up at the diner.

"Hey," I said. "Where are Diane and Jon?"

"They left like two hours ago to go to work."

"So why don't you really tell me why your bedroom door was locked?"

"Because I was changing. I don't need anyone coming in on me changing. You saw me half naked for Pete's sake!"

"Mhmm." She hummed, not believing me.

"So... You and Luke made up?"

Her cheeks turned two shades darker than her light blush. I knew what she was thinking about.  "Yea," she but her lip before giggling like crazy. Her phone beeped. It was Luke's ringtone so I knew who it was.

Allie opened the message and a huge grin grew on her face. "Um...I have to go"

"Ew" I said, making my best disgusted face. "Shut up!"

"Whatever. I have to go to anyways."

"I'll drive you!" She smiled. She just saved me from having to take a bus.

The diner was small but very cozy and "home-y"

"Hi, I'm..."

"The girl taking over Jessica's job. I'm Whisper." The handsome boy in front of my beamed. He was probably maybe only four years older. He was probably in College. "Hi, Whisper. I'm Farrah."

"Hey, so I'll be training you. It's pretty simple, but a beautiful girl like you will be probably have a lot of people hitting on you so..." I laughed. "I think I can manage," I nudged him with my elbow.

Somebody entered the small diner  "Okay," Whisper began, "looks like we're going to get to work." He turned around to look at me. "Oh, actually you need a uniform." He got a shirt out. "You need to wear this shirt with any black pants, dark jeans, or khakis and any black shoes." He looked down at my feet. "Those shoes will do." He smiled. I politely smiled back. He told me where the bathroom was and handed me the shirt while he went over to the new customer.

After, Whisper showed me everything from how to greet the customers to how to pour drinks to how to "properly" clean the tables.

Mr. Manager took his job seriously. At the end of the day. Nothing really interesting happened, but I was told that I'd be having the afternoon shift (eleven to four o'clock)

"Hey, Fair." Allie greeted me from the living- or what I used to call back in Ottawa, "the surviving room"- room.

"A little," I replied searching through the fridge. "There's lasagna in the oven." Allie informed me. "Thanks." I grinned even though she couldn't see me. I opened the oven and boom! food! I could've sworn I hear a choir of angels singing. I took a portion, put it on a plate, and headed up the stairs. "See ya tomorrow, Al!" I said from the stairs. "Good night!" She answered, still texting.
