Ace of Blood

Alice has found a new kind of wonderland.
Jamie Cunning is just an ordinary girl. Sort of. Bearing the scars of a thousand painful memories, old an new, she found a strange set of friends in the abandoned and untended headstones of a nearby cemetery. But this girl who prefers the company of the dead to that of the living finds a shocking new life thrust upon her when she is shoved into a world of danger and death. The worst of all: it lurks just around the corner. The paperboy. The school bully. The neighbor. They may all be a part of it. Watch out, because Ace is always watching, and you never know how the cards will fall.

46. The Observant White Rabbit

“Enough, Tera.” As if those words meant a thing. The Rabbit longed for his detachment, for the clarity that came through his screens. Being here, living this, it made it so much more nerve wracking.
 The woman would be angry.
The Rabbit wondered who would die this time.
He knew it wouldn’t be him. He’d been too careful. His parts had been played superbly, his pieces carefully placed on a board of his own making, in a game dictated by his own rules. So every now and then things went awry. It just meant that it was time for a rule change.
He wondered what this new rule – the first inflicted by anyone other than himself – would do to his game. Perhaps it would be more interesting to watch.
Oh, how he longed for his screens. Distance really did make it so much easier to see.
The Rabbit had known about the others for a long time. No one hid from him, after all. But they hadn’t known about each other. Now, what would their newfound caution do to events?
 An interesting question.
He couldn’t wait to see. For the Rabbit saw everything.
