Another Me

Daisy is a nineteen year old girl and lives with her father and stepmother. Daisy and her stepmother aren't as close as Daisy hoped to be and gets abused by her. Eventually she decides to walk away from home.

When she's walking through the town she meets a lovely lady who's willing to take care of her. She gets to meet her daughter and they become best friends. She also gets to meet her son and for a moment she thinks everything has fallen into place. But that's going to change...

1. Relief

I grab my phone and my bag, which I’ve already packed, because I knew this would happen. Why can’t my dad just see that he has married a witch? Well, I’m not here to get abused by some slut. It surprises me that my dad hasn’t even noticed how many guys she went to bed with in the past year. I wish my mum was still here, she always understood me. But anyway, it’s time for me to leave. I hear the witch yelling at me from downstairs so I quietly sneak out the window. I get my headphones out and my phone and plug them in. I press shuffle and put my phone in my pocket. I hold my bag tightly and just start running. Anywhere is better than this place. After I’ve ran for about 20 minutes I arrive at a Starbucks. I order a Frappuccino and a cupcake. I sit down and take my time to finish it. I already feel free. But the thought of her going after me runs through my mind. I finish my Frappuccino and go outside again. I run for another 5 minutes and then I bump into a woman. I fall backwards and try to stand up. “Come here.” she says and helps me to stand up. “I’m really sorry.” I say while biting my lip. Everything’s just getting too much and I’m trying to not cry in front of someone I’ve never met before. Then she notices the bruise on my cheek. “Did that just get there?” she asks me. I shake my head slowly. She sees my phone and the bag I’m holding. “Can you come with me for just a moment?” She gives me a concerned smile and holds her arm out. I hold onto her arm and walk with her. A few tears escape my eyes and I sob silently. We walk into a small restaurant and I guess she works here. We walk to the back and she says I can sit at a table set for two. She talks a little with a man and gets a glass of water, walking back to me. She sits down and hands me the glass of water. I smile weakly at her and she smiles back at me. “What’s your name sweetie?” I look up from my glass of water and look at her. “I’m Daisy.” I say and the woman smiles, ordering something to eat. “That’s a beautiful name, so do you want to tell me how you got that bruise?” the woman asks and looks at me. She softly brushes her fingers against my bruise and I close my eyes. “I... I get abused by my stepmother.” I say and slowly open my eyes again, a single tear rolling down my cheek. “Aww hun! Come here!” she says as she walks over to me and wraps her arms around me. I bury my face in her shoulder and burst out into tears. She rubs my back and sings softly to me. “It’s going to be alright sweetie.” she says to me when I’ve calmed down a little. I shake my head lightly. “I ran away from home. I’ve got no real friends, so I’ve got nowhere to stay.” “I’ve got a spare room and my daughter can keep you company.” I shake my head again. “I can’t do that.” I say while looking down. “Yes you can, and you will.” she says and smiles. “Thank you, thank you so much.” “I’m Anne by the way.” she says and laughs softly as she gets her chair, sitting next to me. The food arrives and she smiles at me. “Eat something, it looks like you need it.” I smile at her and start eating, giving her something to eat as well. Anne asks me about how long it has been going on and also what I like to do in my spare time. I can finally tell someone what my interests are. “Well, I really like fashion. I always buy the fashion magazines and look at shops for the newest trends, but my stepmother told me I wasn’t going to make any money out of it.” I say and Anne looks interested. “Do you have like a portfolio or something?” she asks and get I a book out of my bag. “It’s basically just some of my own sketches and pictures from magazines.” I say and Anne looks through it with amazement. “Daisy, this is absolute amazing! Gemma has to see this.” I look up from the book to Anne and smile brightly. “Do you really think that?” I ask and she nods quickly, giving me my book back. “Yes! Are you finished with that sweetie? I can’t wait for you to meet Gemma!” Anne says and I laugh softly. “I am finished!” I say and put the book back in my bag, walking after Anne to her car. We both get in and Anne start driving. I see two pictures of a girl and a boy. “Who are they?” I ask, smiling at Anne. That are Gemma and Harry. Gemma is the oldest and still lives with us. Harry is the youngest but isn’t home that often.” she says and I see Anne’s smile fading slowly. “Why isn’t he?” I ask curiously. “He’s in a boy band so he travels the world or spends time with his band mates.” “You must be really proud.” “I am, he’s doing what he loves and what he's amazing at.” I smile at Anne and she smiles back at me.

“We’re here!” Anne says and I get out, looking around me. Oh no, this is the street where the witch’s best friend lives. I’ll have to be really careful. I follow Anne as she opens the door and gets in. “Gemma?” Anne asks and puts her coat away. “Yes?” I hear someone shout from upstairs. “We’ve got a visitor and I want you to meet her.” Anne replies and smiles at me. Anne takes my coat and puts it away as well. Gemma walks down the stairs and sees me. “Hello!” she says, smiling at me. “Hi.” I smile at her and hold my hand out. Gemma shakes my hand and smiles. “Do you want something to drink?” she asks, looking at Anne. “We just went to the restaurant.” Anne smiles and walks to the kitchen. Gemma and I walk after her. “I’ll make some tea.” Anne says and Gemma and I sit at the table. Gemma sees the bruise and gets some ice. “Come here.” she says and sits down next to me, gently pressing the ice to my bruise. “Thank you.” I say, smiling at Gemma. Gemma smiles back at me and Anne puts the mugs with tea on the table. “Thanks mom.” Gemma says and smiles at Anne. Gemma puts the ice down and starts to drink her tea. Anne and I start drinking our tea as well. “Do you think it’s okay if Daisy stays with us? In the spare room?” Anne asks, looking at Gemma. “Sure! I’d love that.” “Ooh, Daisy, show her your book!” Anne says, smiling brightly. I giggle softly and get my book out of my bag, handing it to Gemma. Gemma widens her eyes while going through the book. “Are you a fashion designer or something? This is wonderful!” I smile wide and shake my head. “I’ll show you mine tomorrow.” she says, smiling. “Do you want to get some sleep?” Anne asks me. “Yes, I’m pretty tired.” I reply, smiling. I finish my tea and walk after Anne. She shows me the room I can sleep in. “I don't have any pajamas.” I say while looking at Anne. “Would you mind sleeping in one of my son’s shirts?” I shake my head and she smiles at me, handing me a hoodie. I take it and throw it on the bed, giving Anne a hug. “Thanks for everything, it really means a lot.” I say and Anne smiles, hugging me tightly. “No problem sweetie, go and have some sleep! You and Gemma can do something tomorrow, because I won't be here.” I nod and smile at her as she smiles and heads back to the kitchen. I change into the hoodie Anne gave me and it smells like, I guess her son. I’ll definitely like falling asleep in this shirt. I laugh softly and shake my head, getting my phone and headphones out. I plug them in and lay down onto the bed. After I’ve listened to a few songs I fall asleep.
