Adrian and Aria

for the second advent comp.

1. chapter 1

I shivered as I walked back home after a long day of school. I was walking along my usual, route, through an abandoned path that went through a forest. I tended to it sometimes, especially when it was hard to walk through it. Sort of like now. The ground had a couple of inches of snow on it, coating it in sheer white. I always walked alone, nobody noticed me, leaving off, walking down my little hidden exit. It took me right up to the school. Nobody noticed. They never noticed it, or me. There was a new boy today, a cute one at that. He won’t notice me though, nobody does.  I stopped for a second, rubbing my arms. The cold was really getting to me. And stupidly, I had forgotten to buy a coat, and my arms were freezing off. I’d have to do that tonight, after I had done the little homework I hadn’t completed while sitting in the library at lunch. School only had a week or so left, but we still had home work, sadly. Crunch. I stood still again, not daring to move. I was the only one here. But I wasn’t. Someone had stepped on a pile of snow, causing it to crunch. I darted to the side, my small stature meaning I left very faint foot prints. I looked back, just where I had been standing was a boy, probably from the school. I couldn’t see much, I had jumped into the trees and hid behind a trunk.

"Umm, hello? Girl, are you still here?" He shouted out while looking around. I saw his face as he did so, it was the new boy.

"Umm, could you come back out please? I think I'm your new neighbour, but I don't know how to get home. So I kind of, well followed you." He admitted while scratching the back of his neck. He looked so cute. I quickly decided what to do, and in the end I decided that I couldn't leave the cute boy out in the cold, and I wanted to get home so I could ask for some money to get a coat with. Plus I was freezing right now. I stood up from my crouched position and quietly walked into the middle of the path. I grabbed the boys hand and started to walk, pulling him along. I kept my head down, I didn't want him to see me. I don't know what came over me, when I grabbed his hand. Finally we reached the exit and I let go of his hand before rushing off into my house. I opened the door and darted inside, running upstairs. Why had he seen me? How had he found the pathway? He had said he had followed me, but how could he have seen me go in? Nobody watched me, nobody saw me. So how and why did he?

In the evening once again I went out, my mum gave me some money, and I went out to buy myself a nice winter coat. I found a really nice one, it was white with all the edges covered with fur. It was lovely and warm, plus it came with matching hat and boots. I bought it and headed home, ready to go to school tomorrow.

I walked through my path to school, keeping an eye out for the new guy. I made it to school without incident, and I entered my classroom without being noticed. I just sat there and did my work, but at the same time I stared ahead, looking at the back of the new guys head. He was cute. I couldn’t help but stare, until he suddenly turned around and I was looking him right in the eye. I instantaneously lowered my head, I never made eye contact with anyone. Never. It just didn’t happen. So why did I want to keep staring into his deep green eyes?

After school I pulled on my coat and hat, then ran to my path. I found the nearby bench and sat down, waiting to see if the boy was coming. Just a minute later he came, looking around. Probably for me, which kind of surprised me.

“Oh, hello. You decided to wait for me? Thank you…” He paused and waited for me to tell him my name. I shook my head. I hadn’t spoken to anyone but my mum in so long, I was afraid.

“Ok then, my silent buddy, you know you're so cute.” He told me smiling at me. I lowered my head as my face heated up. He pulled my chin up carefully, and looked me in the eye.

“I'm Adrian. So now would you tell me your name?”    I once again shook my head. He shrugged.

“Oh well. Either way, you are my new friend now. Please, please come sit with me at school, I could really do with a friend, it’s all so new.” I was nodding without even realising it. I had just agreed to sit with him. While to most people this wouldn’t be a big deal, but to me it was. I would be noticed.  To be honest, I was afraid. I started shaking, and I think Adrian could tell. He pulled me into his arms.

“Hey, don’t worry about it. Now come on, let’s head home. Do you mind if I come to your house? My mum is out working.”

“No, I don’t mind.” I whispered. I looked up and saw a smile on his face, and I could feel a faint one forming on mine.

“So you speak. You are so sweet, and perfect. To be honest, I don’t think I have met anyone as beautiful as you.” He complimented me. I once again looked away as my cheeks heated up. I moved off and Adrian followed behind.

“Aww, are you blushing?” I didn’t reply, but I was sure he knew I was. Eventually we reached my house, and I let him in.

“Hey Aria, will you help me with the dinner?” My mum shouted. Adrian looked down at me.

“So your name is Aria? We match, both of our names begin with A!” He exclaimed, his face lighting up in excitement. I had never seen anyone as excited as him.

“Sorry I can’t help mum, I have a friend round.” My mum was probably intrigued by this, and came wondering out of the kitchen.

“This is my friend Adrian.” I told her, introducing him. I then headed upstairs, leading him to my room. I opened the door and let him in. My walls were covered in doodles, my mum let me so that my room was unique. Adrian’s jaw dropped open, and I reached over a closed his mouth with a giggle. I sat down on my bed as he walked around, admiring my drawings.  After a minute he came and sat on my bed next to me.

“So tell me about yourself.” He requested. I just shook my head, feeling shy again.

“Ok then, I’ll just have to tickle it out of you!” He exclaimed, before reaching over and tickling me. We were rolling around on the floor, him tickling me, me laughing my head off.

“Stop! Stop!” I protested. Eventually he stopped, ending up with him straddling me, his head hovering inches above mine. For a moment his eyes flickered between my lips and eyes, then he leaned forward. And I had my first kiss. The cute boy from school, the one who had held my hand while we had walked home. The one who cared. And kissed. Adrian and Aria.
