17. Chapter 16

"I'll eat them all then." My dad laughs.

"Save some for me." I add.

"Ortention is tonight!" Caylen shouts.

"You mean orientation?" My adds."Yeah, we know. We have to work it. Caden, Brutus wants you to be  trainer when you get a little older. He wants you to help out tonight."

"Okay, sounds good." I shrug."What time?"

"Three!" Caylen laughs.

"Five." My mom corrects her.

"Why is Caylen so happy?" I ask.

"I don't know. We normally don't have happy kids."

"Yeah, I was never that happy."

"I know. Something is wrong."

Caylen glares at me."What,Shorty?" I turn away and walk for the door when a knife suddenly flies past my head."Thanks,Mom." I laugh.

"That was Caylen."

I turn around."How'd she get a knife?" My dad points to the counter."I threw a knife a foot away from her and I get in trouble, but she throws one an inch from my head and she doesn't!"

"Yeah, you're fourteen and she is four. It's acceptable."

"That isn't fair. Caylen, if you're coming with me you better hurry." I say and walk toward the door. I hear Caylen jump out of my dad's arms and she darts past me.

"Hurry up,Caden!" She shouts as she runs out of Victor Village. Caylen isn't like my parents or me. She is happy and hyper and oblivious to the outside world. She looks like my mom and throws knives just like her, but her actions and attitude is completely different. I'm not even sure how we are related or how she is my parent's child.

I was raised to know that I will eventually be put into the Games and fight for my life. My parents always brought me to the Training Center with them and taught me things. They were always making sure I didn't become like Caylen.

Something has changed in the past ten years. When I was four, my home was pretty much the Training Center. I went everyday. Caylen, goes about once a week. I don't see a victor in her.  She can throw, but can she kill? I have watched her frolic through the meadows and pick flowers. Something that belongs in a different family. It may be acceptable if you weren't a Hawk or a Spring. But we are. It just doesn't add up.

I'm not sure if my parents plan on keeping her out of the Games, or what not. They aren't raising her the same way they did me. They always knew I'd be a victor, or at least participate in the Games. That is why they made sure I had the best training I could possibly receive.

When I got out of Victor Village, Caylen was far ahead."Caylen, come here." I shouted for her.

"What?" She said with an attitude. "I was busy."

"Why are you so sweet around Ellnna?"

"Because she makes me! Otherwise she ignores me."

"She is just angry that my parents had to brats and her job is hard. I'm your older brother. You can listen to me. Be a brat."

"Really? I can be myself?"

"Of course you can. Now, let's go to the Training Center. We have to make you a victor."

"Yay! I can't wait to start."

"It's fun. You'll be a natural, I'm sure. You're an amazing knife thrower."

"I want to be good at everything like you."

"Mom and Dad will make sure you are."
