2. Before we met...

Chapter 1

"Emmalie, for the last time wake up or you'll be late for school" My mother called. I groaned and my arm flopped over my blanket. I used what little energy I had to force myself into a sitting position, before falling straight back down again. Wanting nothing more then to close my eyes and go back to the land of slumber but knowing I would be severely scolded for it, I grudgingly got out of bed and trudged towards the mirror. My hair had fallen out of the loose braid I had put it in to stop it from getting tangled, so I had a horrific case or bed-head. "Great, just great" I mumbled to myself, as if I already didn't have enough to do without having to spend half an hour attempting to make my hair look somewhat presentable. I pointed at the water and directed it towards my face, washing it before I started on my make-up. I don't usually wear make-up bit it's the last day of school so I guess I'll make an exception. After applying a small amount of eyeshadow and lip gloss I started on my hair, teasing it with my brush. It was a slow and painful process but it paid off. I quickly changed into my uniform, a pleated cream skirt, with creases from where it had been sat on and a pristine white shirt with ruffles on the sleeves and up the centre. It was one of the more elegant uniforms of the area but I still hated it. Checking my watch I saw I only had five minutes to get to school "No no no" I exclaimed, grabbing my iPod and practically running down the stairs, stealing an apple out of the fruit door I rushed out the door with a quick "Bye mum". Biting into my breakfast I hurried to school.

The bell rang just as I walked through the gate. I mentally cursed my last name for beginning with 'A'. Sprinting to my classroom I could only pray I would make it their before Ms. Yen. I thrust the door open to hear my form tutor call "Emmalie Abbot?" I sighed with relief and replied with a breathless "Here miss." I made my way to my desk and waved at Mina, my best friend. Luckily she sat next to me and her chocolatey brown eyes filled with relief as she waved back. "I thought you were gonna get a detention for sure, Em" she told me. "And ruin my perfect record, no chance." Me and Mina were both what you would call goody-goodies, but that's were our similarities stopped. She had golden hair, whilst I had brown. She had an olive complexion and I had a fair one. Her brown eyes are nothing like my blue ones. We're both quite pretty just different kinds of pretty. She was connected to air and even though I was as well, water has always been my most comfortable and easiest to use. Registration finished and we headed to our first lesson, double P.E. with Mr Thompson. The lesson wasn't too bad as we were in the gym, I've always preferred gym lessons to athletics or netball. Although I quite enjoy P.E. on the whole anyway. The lesson finished quicker then I thought it would and I soon found myself on the way to English with a complaining Mina "P.E. Is so.... Stupid, why do we have to do it?" Poor soul, she's never enjoyed P.E. English was pretty uneventful, just the usual analysis that we always had to do. After what seemed like FOREVER it was finally over and me and Mina could go for lunch. We went to our usual spot, under the cherry blossom tree. We loved that place because it was always so beautiful. There pond was crawling with wildlife at this time of year, and the flowers shot out of the ground, bursting with life. Me and Mina talked about the usual, what celebrities we wished we were dating (We were basically just a pair of fangirls), what clothes where in fashion, just normal teenage girl talk. All too soon our blissful lunch hour had finished and it was time for double maths or, as I liked to call it... 'Hell'. I swear Mrs Jackson hates me, but oh well, if the worst thing in my life is double maths, then my life will be pretty good.

With school finally over I ran home. I started browsing the internet looking (as usual) for information on who my counterpart could be. It wasn't easy considering the only thing I knew about him was probably a lie. As usual I found nothing and went to bed feeling depressed and upset, the loneliness in my heart feeling larger then ever.
