Jeanie is a 14 year old girl with Asperger's. She like even numbers and patterns. She doesn't like being touched or bright colours. Every day of her life is pretty much the same. Until the school decides to have a talent show.


2. Chapter 4

~~The day after I started my book it was Tuesday. I woke up at 7:25. I put on my school uniform. At 7:36 I had breakfast. Dry cereal. At 7:40 I fed Minty. At 7:42 I brushed my teeth. At 7:44 I watched TV. At 8:38 I got on the bus to school. I arrived at school at 8:50. I went to my class room and sat down. Miss Bright came in and took the register at 9:02. I made a list about everyone in my class’s birthday.

From this I can work out many things. I can work out Oscar and Pia are twins. I can work out Lewis. B and Richard were born on the same day but they aren’t twins. Lewis. F and Isaac are the same. I can work out there are 11 girls and 13 boys in the class. I can work out who’s the oldest and who’s the youngest.

From this I can tell Ryan is the oldest. And Jayne is the youngest. I can tell I’m the 13th oldest or the 12th youngest. I can also tell Mohamed Z, Poppy Gold, Lewis Burns, Richard Howards, Marie Turner, Jack Castle, Jayne Oldman and Marie Turner are all 13. Because it’s June the 2nd.  Miss Bright pointed out you couldn’t tell how many exactly how many boys and girls there were by just looking at the list because Riley, Yvone and Sam are unisex names. This means boys and girls can have those names. We did maths first. I like maths. Today we did sequences. Sequences are my favourite type of maths because they have numbers in a pattern. There’s a famous sequence called . It explains the numbers in nature. And it goes like this: 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89… It’s easy to understand and the pattern is obvious. After maths we had story time. This is where Miss Bright reads us a chapter from a story. We take it in turns choosing the story. Poppy had chosen Goodnight Mr Tom and we were on chapter 6. I like Goodnight Mr Tom because it’s set in a little English village in World War II. So it’s not in a made up place or during a made up period of history. And I like that. I actually like Poppy. She can’t talk and walks with a limp. She’s 4 foot 9. And has platinum blond hair and hazel eyes. I don’t like Jack Castle. He yells a lot and pushes me and pulls my hair. He’s 6 feet. And has black hair and grey eyes. After story time we were allowed to go outside. I decided to go into the cosy. The cosy is where you go if you want to be quiet on your own. You can either choose to go there or be sent by your teacher. I sat on the blue bean bag and started counting in even numbers. I got to 386 when the bell went. The next lesson was public transport. We were taught how to catch a bus. When people say catch a bus they don’t mean they’re going to grab the bus as it goes past. They mean they’re going to wait at the bus stop. And when the bus stops at the bus stop they get on. We were told how getting on a normal bus is different from getting on the school bus. Because you have to pay for a ticket. And you can get off at any of the stops. And there are people of all different ages. And you have to be aware of stranger danger. Then Miss Bright asked if anyone had taken the bus. Me and 11 others put up our hands. The Miss Bright asked if any of us had been on the bus on our own. Lewis and Riley kept their hands up. Miss Bright asked them to explain how they did it. Then it was lunch. I had two slices of pizza, 16 raisins, two cartons of juice and two strawberry yogurts. After lunch we had music. I don’t like music because it is loud and chaotic. So I sat in the cosy and wrote a bit more of my book. I also did an algebra sum from my maths book.

The pattern is each number is what you get when you square the number before it. So 2x2=4, 4x4=16, 16x16=256, 256x256=65536…
When the bell for home time went I got on the bus and went home. I read my book on volcanoes in my room. Then at 7:00 mum called us down for diner. We had pea soup. I ate properly but William spilt a lot. Mum said it was because he wasn’t really seeing the soup. He was looking at something in his head. I asked if it was like when I picture a pattern or a poster I’ve seen. And she said almost. But what William sees isn’t real. But he thinks it is. You can’t ask William what he’s seeing because he can’t talk. Then after lunch I fed Minty. Then I sat in the garden playing with Minty and did made more sequences in my head. Then at 8:00 I got ready for bed. And finely at 9:00 I went to bed.
