10. My Hero

A few weeks past and Liam was in and out of the house, never staying for more than a few hours at a time. With Liam gone, my friends were on rotation for helping me with the babies. I always had those few days when their schedule was busy so I was on my own. I didn’t mind that, usually it was a good day. Harry had come over a few times to see the babies but never could stay long because of the album making and all the stuff that goes along with that.

I began to feel unwelcome. I feel like Liam’s not staying home because of the twins, but then there’s Sophia. I didn’t like her. She just rubbed me wrong. She acts like a complete bitch, I just can’t see how Liam puts up with that. It must be the sex, I thought. As soon as that passed through my head, I remembered when my last time was and realized it was with Liam. Sighing, I put the last two bottles of milk in the fridge. It’s been a very long time.

I began to hear the cries of my little girl. I’ve heard them so often that I’ve come to know who was crying without even looking. I made my way to the nursery and picked her up and checked her diaper, finding it clean. She can’t be hungry, I just fed her not even twenty minutes ago. Her cries got louder and more urgent, scaring me. What was wrong with my baby? I tried to calm her down but failed miserably. I began to worry, pacing the room as I cooed at her.

Darcy’s cries woke up a sleep and apparently cranky Dylan, sending him into tears as well. My head started to throb as I tried to calm my kids down. What made her start to cry this hard? Was it something I did? Did something scare her? I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and dialed Ariel’s number then remembering she was at work quickly hung up. I tried Fer but she didn’t answer, her phone going straight to voicemail. I tried different people, receiving multiple apologies and excuses.

As I hung up the last time, tears were streaming down my face as I rocked my little girl, trying to keep calm myself. I dialed the last number I had in my phone, hoping and praying they would answer. Relief washed over me as the voice I needed to hear filled my ear.

“Hello?” He asked, his raspy voice suggesting he had been sleep.

“I need your help, I don’t know what to do. They won’t stop crying and I don’t know what’s wrong just please come help me. I really need you, Harry.” I cried, not able to hold back the tears anymore. The other end was silent until I heard the slamming of a door and the start of an engine.

“I’m on my way.” Was the last words I heard before the ending click.

    Harry’s POV

I heard my phone go off and almost ignored it until my gut told me I needed to answer it. I sighed and scooped it up off the floor, answering it as I closed my eyes and laid back on the couch I had been sleeping on. As soon as it cleared, I heard crying and a panicked voice.

“I need your help, I don’t know what to do. They won’t stop crying and I don’t know what’s wrong just please come help me. I really need you, Harry.” Nichole said, her own voice sounding like she was crying. I shot up from my spot on the couch and ran through the house as she spoke, grabbing everything I needed. Running out of the house and hoping the door closed all the way behind me, I through my stuff my car and slammed the door. Starting the vehicle, i told her I was on my way before hanging up.

As I drove, my mind was racing. Where the hell was Liam? Why wasn’t he at home and helping her? My mind went to Sophia and realized that’s probably why. I knew that Louis was visiting his family in Manchester, Niall and Ashley decided to go to Ireland for a few days, Zayn was in the U.S. with Sarah. Ariel was working and I don’t know what Fer was up to.

I pulled up to the house and quickly turned off the car as I got out, slamming the door. Walking quickly, I didn’t bother knocking on the door, just barging in. Nichole was halfway down the front hall holding a screaming Darcy. Both of their faces were red from crying, making my heart hurt.

“Hey pretty girl, why are you crying?” I asked, reaching for the blonde. Nichole handed her over, pacing quickly back to the nursery for Dylan.

I went into the living room, plopping down on the couch with my arms. I could hear Dylan’s cries from down the hall, knowing that she was no doubt coddling him. I bounced a little in my seat, shushing her. Her cries lost its volumes slowly as I hummed, rocking back and forth. She rested her little head on m shoulder, whimpering a little. Once I got her calmed I heard Dylan’s cries start to ease off as well, seeming to be crying just because his sister was crying.

As soon as they both were calmed and I walked back into the nursery, seeing Nichole lay Dylan into his crib carefully. I followed her example, placing a now-sleeping Darcy back into her crib. Nichole looked at me and then walked out of the room, leaving me to follow her into her room. She crawled onto her bed and laid down, patting the mattress beside her. I kicked off my shoes and laid beside her. I wrapped my arms around her and brought her close to me. Instead of objecting to it, she snuggled further into my side, burying her face into my neck.

“Thank you.” She muttered, her voice sounding slightly muffled. I rubbed her back slowly, trying to ease her.

“It’s what I’m here for, don’t thank me.” I said, kissing the top of her head.

“I don’t know what happened. I hadn’t fed them but twenty minutes before Darcy started screaming her little lung out. Then Dylan started. I guess she just missed you.” She said, her voice sounding tired. How long has she been doing this on her own?

“I think you should move back in with me.” I said bravely, knowing she will probably reject the idea. She was quiet for a minute before nodding her head.

“You will?” I asked, genuinely surprised. She nodded her head again, sighing. I realized that she probably hasn’t been getting much sleep so I shut my mouth, listening to her deep breathes. We laid like that for at least two complete ours before she woke up, stretching.

“I’ll get mum or Gemma to come stay at the house when I’m not there so you will have someone to help you with the kids.” I say, pushing her hair out of her face.

“Okay. I need to talk to Liam about it anyway, to tell him why.” Nichole said, yawning. I nodded my head, not liking the idea. I feel like she’s going to be upset by his reaction.

“You can go now. Liam usually comes home about this time. I’ll call you later tonight and we can get on with moving everything the next time you’re off.” She said, looking at the alarm clock by her bed. I waited until she looked back at me to answer.

“Okay. I’ll be off soon. Until then, I’ll get Gemma to help you while you are here. I don’t like you being alone.” I say, looking down at her sweet face.

“That’s okay. Ariel is off for the next few days, I can get her.” She said, poking me in my dimple when I smiled. I nodded my head, poking her side. She giggled, the sweetest sound I’ve heard in a while.

My hand cupped her cheek, my thumb rubbing it slowly. She smiled shyly up at me, making my own lips turn up in a grin. I leaned down, not waisting time as I pressed my lips to hers, awaiting her response. She kissed back, her smooth lips were and gently against mine. After a few seconds she pulled back and looked up at me, searching my face with her eyes.

“I’ll call you later.” She said, dismissing me. I nodded my head and kissed her cheek, climbing off the bed. I looked back and grinned at her one last time before kissing both of my kids on the forehead and leaving. I won’t fuck up this time. I refuse to mess this up.
