3. True Colors

That Saturday, I met Victoria at the place where the party was being held. It was held at one of the fraternity houses. “Hey man, glad you could make it to the party.” Julian came up to me. “Heard Victoria invited you to come.” Vince, another guy on the football team, walked up to me.

“Get at it man!” Julian joked, patting me on the back. I let out a chuckle as Victoria entered the house. Obviously, she turned heads the second she entered. Some guys were checking her out, but she ignored them as she made her way over to me.

“Let’s dance, shall we?” Victoria asked with a smile. She took off her jacket and her bag, handing them to Julian. She took my hand and led me out to the middle of the floor. We danced together as more people started to swarm in. She leaned in and gave me a kiss on the lips. It was the heat of the moment, of course. I kissed her back.

The second I pulled away, I saw someone walk out of the house. Kylie. I hadn’t realized that Kylie was invited to the party too. Well, I wouldn’t have known if she was going because we haven’t spoken to each other in such a long time. A part of me wanted to follow Kylie, but I couldn’t move.

I was completely mesmerized by Victoria. With every move, every word, I was simply falling for her. I haven’t known her for that long, but I have never felt these feelings about anyone before - except Kylie.

“C’mon, let’s head on back to my place.” Victoria smiled. I just nodded as she grabbed her jacket and her bag, leading me out the door. I walked with her out to the car, getting in the passenger seat.

I have never met a girl like Victoria. She was outgoing, adventurous. She brought out parts of me that I thought would’ve never been exposed. We arrived back at her house, entering through the front door. “You know, of all the guys I’ve dated, there’s none that I really brought home.” she smiled, closing the door behind us.

She motioned for me to follow her to her room and I silently followed behind her, still thinking about Kylie. I had to go and talk to her, but how? Victoria closed the bedroom door behind us, locking it. I knew where this was going, but I didn’t care.

“Can you unzip me?” she asked after she had set her coat and her bag down. I nodded as she turned around. I reached for the zipper, slowly unzipping the dress and then she let the dress fall down to the floor. “Thanks.” she smiled, stepping out of the dress and kicked it to the side as she faced me.

She leaned in once more and began to kiss my lips. The kiss became more passionate as I wrapped my arms around her body, pulling her close to mine. She backed up onto the bed as I carefully got on top of her with our lips still connected.

I took off my shirt as she reached down to unbutton my pants. Honestly, I didn’t want to have sex with her but with her, I felt like I was an entirely different person.

The next morning, I awoke as the sun shone through the window. I blinked a few times to get used to the lighting. I turned my head to see that Victoria was asleep beside me. I wondered what time it was and when I checked, it was ten o’clock.

Her body shifted beside me as she turned towards the direction of the window. I quietly got out of bed as I put on my clothes and opened her bedroom door, closing it behind me. “Who are you?” I jumped a bit to see a little girl standing in front of me.

“I’m Liam.” I said. How was I supposed to act around a little girl? She held out her hand towards my direction and said, “I’m Chloe.” I reached out and shook Chloe’s hand.

“Nice to meet you.” I told her.

“You’re the guy my sister came home with last night. Don’t worry. I won’t tell.” Chloe smiled, then skipped away into the living room. She seemed like a sweet little girl, unlike from the stories I had heard about Victoria. I heard the door open behind me as I turned around and came face to face with Victoria.

“Morning.” I smiled.

“Morning. Who were you talking to?” she asked.

“Chloe.” I replied.

“She better not tell dad about you.” Victoria walked out of her room and walked into the kitchen as I followed her. “Why’s that?” I asked. I really didn’t want to impose any questions, but I was just curious.

“My dad is really protective of his daughters. Ever since my mom passed away, he’s been telling me to become more responsible about my choices.” Victoria poured herself a glass of orange juice and asked me if I wanted any. “Sure.” I said.

“Yeah, my dad forgets that I’m not a little girl any more. I tell him, ‘Dad, I’m 20 and I can handle myself perfectly fine.’ Though he says that while I live under his roof, I have to abide by his rules.” She took out another glass and poured me a glass. I thanked her and took a sip.

“Who I am at school is because of what I have to deal with at home. I don’t want any guy to think that I’m just some sweet and innocent little girl. Now you see why I put on the ‘act.’” she said.

“Why hide your true colors?” I asked her.

“No one is going to take me seriously on the cheerleading team. I’m the head cheerleader. I’m supposed to be mean. What about you? Don’t you have to put on an act too? I mean, you’re Mr. Softie now. What about on the football field? Are you Mr. Softie then?” she asked. I didn’t answer her. “See what I mean? You’re the only person that I’ve ever opened up to.”

The next day, I entered my classroom to see that Kylie was there. I wasn’t sure on whether or not I should sit beside her. I sat down in the seat next to her, but she didn’t turn towards my direction.

“Kylie, about the other night, I’m really sorry.” I told her.

“Having fun with your new girlfriend Mr. Popular?” she asked. Of course she would ignore my apology. I would say that Victoria wasn’t my new girlfriend. “I know that since joining the football team-”

“Save it Liam. You’re finally happy with your one true love. I saw you two kissing each other at the party.” She interrupted and then class began. After class, Kylie and I didn’t walk out together. She decided to walk with Michaela, leaving me alone with Niall.

“What happened?” Niall asked as we walked out of the building to the quad.

“I met this girl at the football tryouts. Her name’s Victoria. Well, I went to a party the other night and well, Kylie saw me kissing Victoria.” I answered.

“What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know Niall. I don’t know.
