3. Chapter 3

~Adalaide’s P.O.V.~

“Addy, we need to talk,” Harry said, pulling away a few inches.

Oh no… “Can’t it wait until morning? I’m tired…” I yawned, confirming my previous statement.

“No, now is the perfect time.” I guess he felt my confusion, because he elaborated. “We have plenty of time to talk, this will be one of the few times we’ll be alone before I leave in a few weeks, and neither of us can yell at the other since everyone is asleep and we don’t want to wake anyone up.” He had a point…

“Okay, shoot. What did you need to talk to me about?”

“How about we talk about you?” I hated talking about myself. Besides, what about me did he want to know? We’ve been practically inseparable from birth to X Factor. And not much happened since.

“I have a feeling the conversation will drift there soon. Why have you been so sad recently? And don’t you dare try and deny it, cause you know I know when you’re sad.” I absolutely HATED the twin connection we had…

“It’s nothing you need to worry about.” I really didn’t want to talk about it.

“Well, too late. I’m worried about you and how you’re doing when I’m not home. We never talk anymore so I don’t know how you’re doing. Every time I ask Mum about your well being she tells me I need to talk to you… I can’t get through to you digitally. So, tell me why you’ve been so sad.”

“What if I don’t want to tell you?”

“Why not?”

“I don’t want to hurt you.”

“I can take it. Nothing can be worse than seeing you crying on your bed.” I flinched. I’d hoped to forget he saw me like that. “I never want to see that again, so you need to tell me why you’re so sad so I can fix it and you never have to be like that again.”

“I don’t get why they all call Liam the sweet one in the band. It’s clearly you.” I snuggled closer to him.

“Thanks, now spill.” Darn…

“You’ve already fixed it.”

“Tell me.”

“I just…”

“I missed you.” There. I said it. I told him and he knows and I don’t have to say it anymore.

“I know.” Wait, what?

“What do you mean you know?”

“Mum told me today, when I first came home. Don’t be mad at her,” he rushed to add.

“I’m not. But why did you want me to tell you if Mum already clued you in?” Now I was seriously confused. I pulled away from him again to look at his face.

“I wanted to hear it from you. Besides, you could’ve lied to Mum.” I rolled my eyes and pulled a face that I guess he saw in the dark. “Okay, so you’d never lie. But still, I wanted to hear it from you. And I’m sorry I went behind your back and asked Mum. But she was only worried about you. You have to know that.” He held my hand and started running his thumb over my knuckles.

“I do. I know you were just worried about me, but I still wish you would’ve waited a couple hours. I have a feeling you’ve been planning this little rendezvous conversation for a while.”

He nodded sheepishly. “Yeah, just not like this.”

“I should hope not!” I smacked his shoulder. He quietly chuckled. “But honestly, why not wait?”

“Why wait? My best friend and only sister was depressed. I see no reason to wait to figure out how I can help you.”

“You help me just by being here.”

“But how am I supposed to help you when I’m not home? When I’m at one of the other boys’ homes, or on tour?” His voice grew sad.

“I guess we just wait until you’re home again.” I shrugged. There wasn’t much else we could do.

“No.” His voice was stern and it had a sense of finality to it. It softened as he said, “There’s no way I’m ever ever EVER letting you go through that again. You don’t deserve to ever feel that way again.” He had tears in his eyes once he finished his mini monologue.

“Aw! Harry!” I wiped away a tear as it fell from his eye. “I won’t! As long as you visit when you can, I’ll be fine. It’s been nearly two years since I’ve seen you last, that’s why I was so down. But you’re here now and everything is all better.” I wrapped my arms around his middle.

“Babe, I know, and believe me, it killed me too, but I had the boys to get me through it. Who do you have to get you through?” Concern and worry etched his perfect face. I figured it would be best just to tell him so I wouldn’t prolong his suffering.

“Well, I’ve got Mum, I’ve got Angelica, I got a few other school friends, and If needs be I can always text you. See, I have plenty of people.”

“No you don’t. And if you were so sad, why didn’t you contact me?!?” He held my shoulder and shook it, trying to shake in his point I suppose.

Well I mean it was obvious. Why didn’t he see it? “Because you’re busy.”

“I’m never too busy for you! You can come to me WHEN. EVER. I’ve told you this already. No matter what I’m doing, I will answer you.” His voice became urgent as he said, “I PROMISE.”

“Okay okay, I believe you. Geeze, no need to freak out on me…” I laughed at him. He was such a child sometimes. It was adorable.

Not to be creepy, but I wanted to find a boy like Harry. He was immature when he wanted, but when the time called for it, he was serious and responsible. He was always sweet to me, but knew when it was okay to mess around and tease me. My brother was the only guy in my life, and for now that was fine by me. I wouldn’t settle for anyone that Harry disapproved of, and he always thought so highly of himself that anyone less than him wouldn’t do.

“I love you Addy.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me you were coming home?”

“I wanted it to be a surprise… I’m sorry. I guess I should’ve told you… I really do love you, Addy.”

“I love you too Harry.” He laughed quietly. “What?”

“You sound drunk. You’re slurring your speech. You must be really tired.” I nodded and he pulled me closer to him. I laid my head on his chest with my arm slung over his middle. I was out almost immediately.
