Alaska ran away from home to keep her father safe, but when she falls for a human boy she ends up putting herself and his family in danger. Will Xavier and Elijah be able to keep themselves out of harms way? Or will the blood thirsty side of Alaska take over?

8. Chapter Seven

The sun set not long after Alaska had been told she could stay at the Cliftons house over the Christmas although she didn't tell them her plan. The sky outside was almost pitch black and the stars shone like fireflies. Alaska was laying on the ground of Sandy’s bed room, glancing out at the sky. Her head was resting on a small butterfly pillow and her body was covered in a purple Bratz blanket that Sandy ‘never’ used. Sandy herself was laying her single bed tossing and turning, not out of heat or out of nightmares but out of sleep deprivation.

“Alaska?” the sleepy voice asked quietly,

“Yes” she looked up at the little girl who was bundled up in her duvet.

“Do you know any stories?” Alaska let out a soft laugh and sat up,

“No, but I know a lullaby”

“Sing it please?” she stood up and moved to sit on the edge of Sandy’s bed.

“Dancing bears, painted wings

Things I almost remember

And a song someone sings

Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm

Horses prance through a silver storm

Figures dancing gracefully

Across my memory…”  Alaska sang quietly before humming the tune and slowly Sandy’s eyes closed and she fell asleep. She glanced down the at girl and smiled, standing slowly and started to make her way back to her spot on the floor.

“Alaska?” Xavier’s voice came from the door causing her to rush over,

“Shh” she smiled moving out into the hallway and shutting the door behind her “I just got her to sleep,”

“Do you have a younger sibling?”

“No” she sighed “I would love one though”

“You can have her!”

“I’d love her” they two laughed quietly so not the wake the younger girl in the room next to them. They smiled at each other for a moment or two before Alaska let out a painful gasp.

“Alaska?” Xavier moved closer to the girl who just pushed him out of her way as she rushed to his and his brothers room. Once there she burst through the door causing Elijah to jump,

“Alaska?” he asked suddenly but she collapsed to her knees and clawed harshly at the ground.

Xavier hurried in on the sight of the brunette knelt on the ground gasping in pain and clawing towards the window of the twins bedroom.

“Eli open the window!”

“Now!” Xavier rushed to Alaskas aid and pulled her upwards and dragged her changing body towards the window. Elijah pushed the glass open as quickly as he could and in a panic threw himself back against his wardrobe to watch what was happening in front of him. Alaskas curved her back and let out a silent howl of pain as her canine teeth sharpened and grew slowly out of her gums. Her fingernails pointed and grew in length almost to match her new fangs and she dug them into Xaviers arms causing him to drop her.

“Xavier!” His brothers yell caused him to pull away from the girl and watch as she twisted, as her spine seemed to snap back and forth in and out of place. Alaska clung to the window ledge, digging her now tough, sharp nails into the wood. It splintered over the floor beneath her and cut at her shines at she harshly pulled herself up. Upon feeling the cold night air on her face she gasped with slight relief and threw herself over the ledge. The boys stared for a moment before Xavier rushed to the window, below Alaska was lying the faint sound of crying coming from her badly damaged body. He stared at her with despair filling his eyes and in one swift movement he turned and ran out of the room.

Snow. The cold crisp snow made a crunch up Xavier’s feet as he rushed to the side of the creature. Alaska. Her brown shoulder length hair was decorated with tiny snowflakes and her bloodstone necklace lay with a crack in the side of it. Xavier ignored the cold and knelt beside her twisted body, she wasn't dead but her breathing was shallow. She wasn't unconscious but her eyes were a dark red with a slight for a pupil. Her eyes didn't look like they worked, they were open but anything that happened in front of her didn't seem to register for her. She looked blind. Maybe it was a trap. Maybe she could see him worrying about her and she was waiting for the right time to attack.

Xavier… A quiet voice inside his head spoke to him, it was a familiar voice but he couldn't quite recognise it. Xavier run… It told him but he couldn't leave her, she was his friend. Then it dawned on him. That voice… I was hers!

“Alaska?” he said standing rubbing his hands on his PJ trousers. Her body didn't move apart from the slight movement of her chest as she breathed.

Run… The voice repeated but he couldn't bring himself to do it, he couldn't bring himself to-
