Counting Stars (Nico Di Angelo Fanfiction)

Cira Evans, aged 13, has been bullied all her life. She's not called ugly. No. But she's called a freak. She can see demons, well, that's what she says. she's the only one that sees them. These demons mean death or fear. Eventually, one thing leads to another and she ends up at Camp Half-blood, and finally, there's someone who sees what she sees...

3. Dinner with a God

*Cira's POV*

We ended up dropping my guitar in my cabin.

"C'mon we're gonna be late!" Leo said, still pushing us.

"Leo quit pushing! swear to Hades!" Nico complained.

"Alright, Alright!" Leo smirked and let go of us. Finally, after a couple of minutes of Leo and Nico's pickering, we reached the 'mess hall' with a lot of Leo shouting. Chiron was standing at the entrance waiting.

"Ah, Cira my dear, you don't mind sitting with Nico do you? Usually unclaimed demigod sit at the Hermese cabin but... It's a tad full."

"No I don't mind...O-only if it's okay with him." I smiled at Nico who gave a small nod.

"You guys go sit down." I followed Nico to his table. He sat... Alone?

"Silence! Now, today we have a new camper, Cira Evans!" Nico nudged my shoulder for me to stand up, I stared at my shoes and waved.

"Claimed or unclaimed?" A couple of people shouted.

"Un-" before Chiron could Finnish a burst of light coming from the fire fit in the centre. Everyone covered there eyes. Once the light vanished stood a man, 25-ish, Sandy blonde hair and sunnies was leaning against the hood of a car. A bunch of campers, they all had some sort of resemblance to the man, run up and hugged him.

"Ah Apollo! Good to see you! When was the last time I saw you? After Gaia was defeated?" Chiron trotted up to 'Apollo' who was greeting the campers.

"Yes, I think it was," He chuckled, "Now I believe Cira Evans is here, am I right?" I took a deep breath before stepping forward.

"Ah there she is." He smiled and waved a hand. A bright light shone above me. I looked up to see a sun, probably about the size of a dinner plate. The student's who were gretting the man ran over and brought me into a group hug. Behind them the God and Centaur looked as if they where having a serious conversation.

"C-can't ... Breath" the Apollo cabin had come and squeezed the air out of me. Everyone laughed and moved off me. A guy, probably about 6' tall. He look a lot like Apollo, blue eyes, blonde hair and a great tan.

"I'm Will Solace, it's nice to meet you." He held out a hand which I gladly shook.

"Nice to meet you-." Apollo walked up to us and cut me off. "Follow me." He said with all seriousness. I nodded and left my half siblings behind. We walked down the beach and along the sand. I had taken of my shoes and rolled up my jeans.

"You can call me dad, I don't mind." I smiled up at him.

"Dad... Why am I here?" I asked, dropping my gaze to the floor.

"Because you are special, in a good way that is. You're a half blood and monsters like to kill, sometimes eat half blood. There's a magical border around the camp so they can't get in. There's only two places like this." My dad explained.

"Anyway, Normally, God's cannot comunicate with their children, but I was given special permition to talk to you...I wanted to talk to you about the demons." At the word demon I stopped walking.

"Listen," he bent down and put his hands on my shoulders. "I'm not sure why these demons are here, but I want you to stick with Nico. He knows how to handle them as you might already know." I nodded in understanding.

"Zues doesn't even know what's happening, we're going to talk to Hades because seeing as it's already hurt your friend it may put other campers in danger." I avert my gaze to my feet... Was... Was it my fault Allen died?... My eyes stung but I refused to cry. Not now...

"I have to go, but I'll check up on you and tell you what happens with Hades, stick with Nico, you'll be okay..." He ruffled my hair and with a flash of light, he was gone...

My fault... My breathing quickens and I sit on the sand... If Allen had never known me the demon wouldn't have- An image of the demon with her claws dug in Allen's back. My fault... I Try to convince myself it wasn't my fault and I stare out at the water. I don't know how long I sit there for but eventually someone finds me.

"Cira right?" I jump and look at the person who had spoken. He had dork hair and beautiful blue eyes. I nod.

"The name's Percy," He smiles, "You didn't come back to the mess hall, are you okay?" The way Percy spoke, he seemed so loyal and trust worthy...

"My dad- Apollo... he um, he said some things... got me thinking." I run my finger through the sand, avoiding his gaze.

"Yeah, I know what Apollo's like, don't worry about it, he sometimes speaks without thinking... Anyway, Chiron told me to give you this, thought you might be hungry." Percy handed me a brown paper which, when I opened it, had a apple and cinnamon muffin inside. My stomach rumbled and I hadn't realised how hungry I was.

"Thanks..." I took a bite of the muffin and hummed, this was really good! Percy chuckled and turned to look at the sea. I finished my muffin and we sat in silence for a while, well until a horn blew.

"Looks like it's time for bed already, c'mon I'll take you to Apollo's cabin." After Percy helped me up we made our way back to the cabins, Will was standing outside the Apollo cabin.

"Cira! There you are! Oh thank gods you're okay!" He rushed over to us and hugged me. Surprised by the sudden amount of affection, I slowly hugged back. I looked over at Percy for help who just grinned.

"I gotta get back to my cabin, I'll see you tomorrow squirt." Percy  ruffled my hair once Will had pulled away. Percy walked away towards a cabin covered in fish nets and shells.

"So I see you've met Percy, He's a bit of a hero, saved the whole camp- no- the whole world several times." My eyes widened and I turned and looked at his retreating figure. I muttered a 'wow' under my breath, causing Will to chuckle.

"C'mon, we've got a bed set up for you." Will led me into the cabin and inside... it was beautiful... a light wood covered the floor and walls, the beds had white and gold coverings. Different instruments where hung on the walls and scattered round the room. Along the back wall were pictures of dad with all sorts of famous people, Elvis Presley, Greenday, fallout boy, Sleeping with Sirens and wait- is that mozart? Will led me to the back of the cabin.

"This is your bed, oh yeah Nico asked me to give this to you, don't know what's in it but oh well..." A black bag was placed neatly on my bed, I opened it and looked inside. Black sweatpants and a grey t-shirt and a note. I read the note and smile.

use these as pj's, thought you might need them

I'll see you tomorrow,

"Cira, this is Kayla, she'll show you the bathrooms and stuff." Will gestured to the tall blonde girl to his left. she had long blonde hair and pale blue eyes. She smiles at me and hands me a bag of toiletries.

"Do you need to borrow any pj's or no?" she asks cheerily, her thick Texan accent shining through. I shake my head.

"No I've got some..." She nods and tells me to grab them so I can change. She leads me though a door at the back of the cabin. There's accouple of shower and toilets, a huge mirror on the other wall. Girls are changing and I start getting self-consious. Kayla seems so notice.

"If you don't feel comfortable changing in the open you can change in one of the toilets. But just so you know, none of us care, we're all body possitive, you now the whole 'all bodies are beautiful'." she says and starts changing. I end up taking her offer and change in one of the toilets. I smile, these were way to big, oh well. I exit and look at mysef in the floor to cieling mirror. To be honest, this looks kinda cute.

"You done?" Kayla said from her possition against the mirror.

"Yeah..." We exit the bathroom, campers sat in small groups talking, singing or playing music. I take a seat on my bed and take my guitar that had been placed next to my bed. Leo did a really good job of fixing this...

"Nice guitar." I look up from the instrument and up to the voice that had spoken. A boy with light blonde hair which hung in his eyes stood in front of me.

"Thanks... a friend made it for me..." I smile sadly.

"Can you play?" He asks and I nod, I readies the instrument on my lap and play the tune for 'Time of your life' by 'Greenday'. The freckled boy took a seat on my bed in front of me began to sing.

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos and memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right,
I hope you had the time of your life.

Once we finish Will, who sat on his bed next to mine, applauded and cheered. I giggle and turn back to the mysterious boy.

"The name's Austin." He smiles, which I return.

"Cira-" I was cut of by a voice out side the door.

"Alright! That's enough! Lights out!" Chiron calls in and we hear him gallop away.

"You guys heard him, c'mon." Will says, earning a groan from literally everyone in the cabin. A couple of students go round turning off lights. I place my guitar next to my bed and get under the covers. Hushed goodnights are heard through out the cabin and I close my eyes...

Maybe this place isn't as bad as I originally thought....
