18. I Love You

Despite everyone trying to console me for the rest of the day, I was still upset. I tried not to let the others see, but Justin knew. He always knew.

"Let's go out." Justin whispered in my ear after school. He kept an arm around me and held me close to him. We walked slowly to my car not saying a word.

"Where do you want to meet?" I asked as I unlocked the car. I threw my stuff into the back and turned to look at him

"The usual place, I'll invite everyone." He said.

We left each other then and I stopped at home to leave my book bag and grab a jacket. I looked myself over in the mirror and pulled a small sheet of paper out of my pocket. My middle school picture was on it and the word 'freak' was written over my face. I looked between my own reflection and the picture for a couple of minutes before tearing the paper into shreds and throwing the pieces into the trash.

I may not have been the perfect girl in middle school, and I definitely wasn't now, but I was not a freak. Being different from other girls in my school didn't make me weird or an outcast. A person shouldn't be categorized by their looks. I left the house and drove to the smoothie shop.

"Finally you are here!" Anna said in a high pitched voice. Scott's arm was slung around her shoulder. Chaz and Ryan were sitting together bickering about something; they really were an old married couple. Justin stood up when I walked in and stepped towards me. He pulled me into a warm hug and held me for a moment. I let out a sigh and squeezed him tightly. His smell was extremely comforting, and his arms were strong around me.

"I think we should make a toast." Chaz said laughing. We were all sitting down and sipping at smoothies.

"To what?" Justin asked raising an eyebrow. I rolled my eyes and leaned forward in anticipation, I could tell that this was going to be good.

"To taking down the queen bitch. To destroying her popularity... and just for kicking her ass." Chaz said. Anna choked on her smoothie and everyone else laughed.

"I heard that she can't walk in graduation." Ryan said.

"How the hell did you find that out?" Scott asked.

"I know people." He winked.

The day ended wonderfully, we all went to the park and horsed around for hours. But slowly one by one, everyone started to go home and eventually it was just Justin and me.

"Kaelee, you shouldn't have fought her." Justin said. His brown eyes looked sad now. He was holding my hand while we swung slowly on the swings. I let my feet drag on the ground kicking up dirt below me.

"I know, but I couldn't take it anymore. She wasn't going to stop unless I stood up for myself." I said looking over at him. Justin shrugged, and then smiled wickedly. It was a dangerous smile, one that made me want him bad.

"It was pretty hot, seeing you fight." He laughed.

"Oh my god Jay. You did not just say that." I said, eyes wide. I kicked his foot gently and laughed too. He got off the swing and stood in front of me, his hands on the chains of my swing. He was leaning close to me, his dark eyes looking into mine intensely. He licked his lips and touched my cheek.

"I am proud of you though Kae. You are stronger than you think, you're beautiful and smart. You're amazing and you need to know that."

"Justin," I started, but he was leaning closer. His warm lips pressed against mine and all the words I had been about to say were forgotten. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. He lifted me into his arms and carried me to his car. He was sitting against the hood and I was on his lap. His hands trailed down my back and brushed against my ass, he held his hands there and squeezed. My breath caught in my mouth and Justin immediately stopped.

"I'm sorry Kae, I don't mean to push it or anything, I just..." He paused as if trying to find the words. "It's just.. I like your ass." He looked away for a second and smirked. "You know I am a butt guy."

I rolled my eyes and took his face in my hands and pulled him close. My lip brushed his as I spoke.

"Jay, shut up." Then I closed the distance and kissed him hard. I could feel his smile against my lips and felt his hands wrap around my waist once more.

That night was amazing. After I said bye to Kaelee, I drove home with a smile on my face. Man, the things this girl does to me. I got home and my mom was sitting at the counter, reading a magazine. I said goodnight to her and went to sleep.

The next day at school, everyone was congratulating Kaelee on the win. Since the seniors were done yesterday, we didn't have to worry about Hope. Kaelee's spirits seemed lifted since everyone was on her side. A couple people said sorry about what happened. I could tell that she was tired of hearing about it by the end of the day.

"Hey! Kaelee right?! You're pretty fucking awesome. You should come to a party of mine sometime this summer. You're a babe, text me." The guy handed her a slip of paper and smacked her ass.

"Keep your filthy hands off of my girl, you prick. I'll fuck you up." I growled. The guy backed off and apologized.

Kaelee laughed and pushed me against the lockers gently. She kissed me and whispered in my ear.

"Cool down tough guy, you can't get suspended the last week of school." She kissed my cheek and walked away, leaving me breathless. Her hips swung as she walked, and I couldn't look away. I caught up with her and took her hand.

"No one touches my girl's ass, unless its me." I winked and kissed her forehead.

The summer was absolutely perfect. Kaelee and I saw each other almost everyday, and we even sneaked out late at night. She was a lot more fierce than I had ever seen her, she seemed more alive than before and everyday I saw her, I fell more in love with her. I hadn't said it since prom night because I was afraid she didn't feel the same way, but I needed to tell her. There was no way I could keep these feelings locked inside. I was sitting on my bed contemplating my options when my phone vibrated.

'Jay, want to come over tomorrow. Mom said it was okay if you did, even though they will be at work.'

Wow, that was a shock. I knew that her parents trusted us a lot, but not THAT much. A smile spread across my lips as I replied.

'Okay, what time?'

'Whenever you want.' She replied. I smirked.

'What time do they leave?' I was messing around, but she didn't catch on.

'Seven, why?' I could almost picture the confusion on her face. I laughed out loud.

'I'll be over at seven ten.' I said with a winky face.

'I doubt  it.' Was her only response.

'You're right, I'll be over at like ten.'

We talked for a little while longer before she fell asleep. She had been at work all day, so she was exhausted. I hated working because it took away from my time with Kaelee, but it did mean that I could spend money to spoil her.

"Mom!" I called. "I'm going to Kaelee's tomorrow!" I rolled over in my bed and flipped on the television.

I heard her walk upstairs and open my door. I looked over my shoulder as she stepped into my room. Her arms were crossed and she was giving me a very motherly expression.

"Justin," She said in an assertive tone.

"Yeah?" I asked sitting up. Was I in trouble?

"You better not get her pregnant." She said seriously.

"Oh my god mom! We are NOT having this conversation." My eyes were wide with shock and embarrassment.

"Yes we are, its serious. You've been spending a lot of time with her, and don't think I don't know that you sneak out at night."

Busted, I thought to myself. Moms really did know everything. I stood up and walked to her. She shifted her weight, her expression never changing.

"Mom, listen to me carefully. We are NOT having sex." I said the words slowly so that she would understand.

"Justin." She said hesitantly.

"Mom, seriously." I said in the same tone. "I don't lie to you."

"You'd tell me wouldn't you?" She asked, her eyes looked softer now as if her worries had been lifted off her shoulders. I sighed.

"Of course I would." It was a lie, mostly. I might tell my dad, but not my mom.

"Good," She smiled and hugged me tight. "Well, you have fun tomorrow and just remember use protection."

"I mean if you, you know, 'do it'." She made quotations with her hands and left my room quietly. I jumped onto my bed and immediately texted Ryan and Chaz. They both had the same response.

'I thought you guys did. Lol.'

'Shut up.' I responded. 'She doesn't want to.' Which wasn't really a lie, she wasn't ready. I wanted to but at the same time I wasn't sure I was ready.

'I respect that.' Ryan replied, Chaz said something along the lines of,

'It isn't rape if you say surprise'.

I laughed hard and threw my phone onto the dresser and fell asleep.

I was both excited and nervous to have Justin over. My mom had said that he could come over as long as we stayed out of my room.

I woke up at nine and got dressed. I wasn't sure what to wear, whether it should be something sexy or casual. Normally I wouldn't have thought anything of it, but this was the first time Justin and I were alone in my house. How was I supposed to treat this?

I looked myself over in the mirror. I had put on short shorts and a revealing tank top, I decided against it and put on Capri's and left the tank top on. I wore matching bra and underwear underneath, you never know... I left my hair down and straightened it. I still had a half hour to spare so I painted my nails.

I walked downstairs and sat down at the piano. It was nearly ten, and Jay hadn't texted me yet. I figured he was probably still asleep. So to pass the time I pulled up some old music I had composed and practiced. I made up some lyrics while I played and wrote them down, I barely heard the knock on the door when Justin arrived.

I scrambled to clean up my things and then ran to the door. I opened it and smiled widely. He was wearing khaki shorts and a plaid shirt that he left unbuttoned, he had a white tank underneath. He looked hot. His hair was swooped in the way it usually was, a casual mess. I wanted to run my fingers through his hair and mess it up more.

"Hey, were you listening to music a minute ago?"

"No, why?" I asked as he stepped into the house. I shut the door behind me and walked to the couch. Justin looked around and pointed to the piano.

"You were playing weren't you?!"

"Don't lie, you left music on it." He stood up and walked over to it, picking up the paper. He turned around smiling.

"You didn't tell me that you played." He stepped forward and waved the paper in my face. I took it and cradled it against my chest. I hadn't wanted him to see this.

"Come on, play it for me." He walked forward, sticking his fingers in the belt loops of my jeans to pull me close. "Please?" He kissed me softly and kept his hands on my waist. I sighed and nodded.

"Okay, but don't say anything." He made the motion of zipping his lips shut and sat down on the couch.

I looked back at the piano and set up everything I needed. My hands were shaking furiously as I set them against the keys. It was only Justin, why was I so worried? But I knew the answer to that, this was the song about him. The tune was light and fast, it reminded me a lot of Justin's personality. He seemed happy all the time and always on the move. As I played I thought about all the times we had together and I played with more heart than I had ever done before. I hesitated a moment before I began to sing.

My mind was blown. I watched Kaelee as she played her heart out and sang beautifully to the music. She was glowing, her hair was beautiful as it always was and she was just perfect. Her voice was so beautiful and listening to her was mesmerizing. I was leaning forward, my elbows on my legs and my face in my palms. Several times I about fell over in shock. She hit a high note and I thought my heart had melted away. She seemed to move with the music, dancing to the beat. I had never seen anything so amazing in my life. I stood up and walked over to her. I placed my hands over hers and she stopped playing and looked at me.

"I know. It's bad, I just I really wanted to write something. I thought it would be fun to do." Her eyes were wide and her hands were shaking in mine. I pulled her from her seat and wrapped my arms around her tightly.

"It was absolutely amazing. I had no idea you could play, let alone sing. Why didn't you ever tell me, how long have you been playing?" The questions came out and wouldn't stop.

"Since I was little, I didn't want anyone to know because I didn't think I was very good, but I liked playing. I've always liked to sing, I just never perused it."

"Well you are amazing, and you know what. You have to play next year at Back to School Night." I took her hands and spun her around.

"Oh, no way. I cannot perform in front of all those people." She shook her head furiously. "I can barely play in front of my parents, let alone you!"

"Come on it was brilliant," I grabbed the paper and looked it over. She had written it herself everything was in her hand writing. I looked up at the top.

'Justin,' it read. There were other titles scribbled out, one of which I thought looked like 'I love you'. I dropped the paper and just stared at her. She picked it up and put it away quickly with all of her other things. She walked over to the couch and sat down.

"So... what do you want to do?" She asked softly. I thought about it for a moment, but the only thing I could focus on was the fact that the words 'I love you' had been written on that piece of music. There was no way she could get away with not telling me now.

"We need to talk."

"... What did I do?" Kaelee asked hesitantly, she was shaking all over again. From the look in her eyes I could tell she was afraid, like I was about to break up with her or something else.

"You didn't do anything baby." I said in a reassuring tone. I sat down next to her and basically pulled her into my lap.

"Do you remember what I said to you after prom?"

"Yes," She replied softly. "You called me princess."

"That's because you are a princess, my princess." I kissed her forehead, and ran my fingers through her hair gently. "But that's not what I was talking about."

"Oh," She looked at me confused... Did she not remember? Or maybe she didn't hear it...

"I said, I love you." I waited for a response. Her cheeks were bright pink and her eyes were wide. She opened her mouth and shut it again as if unsure what to say next, so I continued. "I've been unable to shake that feeling since prom, and its just grown stronger everyday. I love you Kaelee, you're my best friend and an amazing person. You are my princess. I was afraid to say it again because you didn't say it back to me that night, I thought that maybe you didn't feel the same way. I can say it now because no matter how you feel it won't change the way that I feel about you."

"Justin! I was so shocked that night. I didn't know what to say, but I was afraid. After Connor I locked away those feelings inside. But Justin, I love you too!"

I couldn't help myself, I pulled her closer and hugged her tight. I was so happy, she made me so happy. I took her face in my hands and laughed.

"I love you so much Kaelee."

"I love you too." She leaned forward and pressed her forehead against mine, our noses barely touching. She smiled brilliantly. I kissed her then, softly at first but then they grew more passionate with time.

We found ourselves sprawled out on the floor, panting hard. She was beneath me, her shirt was pushed up so that her bra was showing. I lifted myself up just enough so I could get a good look at her. I was suddenly aware of the fact that we were making out on her living room floor and there was only a couple layers of clothing between our bodies. We could have sex right now... Part of me was ready, and I could tell Kaelee knew which part. Her eyes grew wide as she felt my bulge grow against her crotch. I sat up quickly and ran fingers through my hair.

"Uh, I'm sorry. But, you make me feel this way, and I can't help it. You're so god damn sexy." The last words came out in a whisper.

"You're sexy too." She sat up and kissed me hard. Her tongue traced my lips slowly as she teased me with her hands running down my chest. Everywhere she touched me I got goose bumps. My hands rubbed up her sides and to her bra. She shivered as I rubbed my thumb across her tit, cupping her entire breast. She let out a soft moan, and I knew that was where I needed to draw the line. I would lose it if she made another sound like that. It was a complete turn on and as it was I was having a hard time keeping myself from ripping off our clothes and taking her right then and there. I pushed back and took a deep breath.

"Let's stop while we're ahead." She said nodding, understanding my actions.

"I just, I don't want to lose control." I said honestly. She bit her lip, and gave me a flirtatious smile.

"You aren't making this any easier for me." I said softly. I pulled her shirt back into place and helped her up. Her hair was a mess and I could only imagine what mine looked like. I rubbed her cheek softly and stood up.

"I'm starving, lets go to lunch."

"Yeah, just let me go to the bathroom really quick."

I stepped into the bathroom and closed the door behind me.

'That was intense,' I thought to myself. I looked at the mirror and blinked a couple of times. My hair was a mess, I ran my fingers through it and combed it a bit as well. I was still breathing pretty heavily from our passionate make-out session, which I didn't mind. It was honestly quite thrilling when I felt Justin against me. However, I was glad he stopped when he did because I was absolutely terrified inside.

"Come on I am hungry!" He said knocking on the door and turning the knob jokingly. I laughed and opened the door. He stood there leaning against the door frame suggestively. I smiled and kissed him as I walked out. I could feel him watching as I walked passed, it made me smile.

"Let's go!" I called.
