9. 14th February is Valentine's Day?

With Christmas day already past, (I got a lot of presents, and as always, a Weasley jumper from Mum . . . She knitted them herself, and then gave them to us . . .) Valentine's Day was slowly getting nearer and nearer, and all my friends were obsessed with talking about their crushes. Everyone tried to make me spit out who I was crushing on, but I kept my mouth closed, even when they attempted a tickling hex on me, which was really annoying, but funny at the same time!

But I couldn't keep it a secret for long. A week before the 14th, I was sitting on the stands, watching Harry play, when Amelia magically appeared in the chair next to mine, causing me to jump. "Amelia! What?! How?! Where did you come from? What are you doing?!" I stuttered, trying desperately not to blush. But her smug face told me exactly how much she knew.

"Well, I'm here because you're here, and as for the what am I doing, hmm, I should ask you the same thing. I think we all know who Mr Mystery is!" she said triumphantly. Oh rats! Merlin's pants! Merlin's knickers! Merlin's bloomers! I blushed like a radish but still had the hope of still keeping the secret that I liked Harry.

"What?! Umm, no way! Harry?! Harry Potter?! Umm, nahhh, he could never . . . Love me." I said, realizing at the last few words what the truth was. Harry could never love me. Amelia's expression turned from smugness to pity, and I knew that I probably looked incredibly sad at that moment. "It's true, Amelia. He could never love me, he's the most famous wizard in the whole world! Everyone knows his name! And yet, my brother manages to be his best friend perfectly well, without even trying! It's so unfair! I haven't told anyone yet, apart from you, not even Hermione, and she's my best friend! It's just, whenever he's around, I feel as if he could maybe . . . You know, like me too." I whispered, even though we were probably the only two people sitting on the stands that early in the morning.

Amelia put her arm around me, and said "Wow. You must really love him. I must admit, I'm so jealous. I've never fallen in love, and from what you say, and what I've seen you act like around him, it must be the most amazing feeling in the world! And yeah, I sort of guessed you were crushing on him before, I mean, I only needed to take a look at your expression every time he walked past to know, but I don't think the other's guessed. And don't worry, I won't tell!"

I smiled at her, and simply replied "Thanks, Amelia. I'm sure you will find that one special person for you, some day. Maybe even this year! Or maybe in two years, I don't know. Lets just hope that whoever it is that you wil love will feel the same way about you, so you won't end up with a story like me." We were talking like miserable grown-ups, although we were only eleven, and so unexperienced! So we talked more, while I watched Harry, and after a while, when we were going to go back inside the castle, Amelia's face brightened, and she exclaimed "That's it! I have an idea! You should send him an anonymous valentine's day card, so that he knows he has a secret admirer, and can hopefully guess it's you!"

That was a brilliant idea! So we ran back inside, ready for breakfast, and full of beans and desperate to use our knowledge of magic to make something beatiful. "Meet you on the stairs by Hagrid's Hut at free period!" Amelia yelled. "And I'll make sure we'll be alone!" I grinned at her and ran over to join my Gryffindor mates at our table, thinking how lucky I was to have such an amazing person to confide in. Amelia was just the bestest friend ever!

At free period, I rushed down to the stairs by Hagrid's hut, thinking I was early, but Amelia was there already. "Where are the  other girls?" I asked. She replied "I told them I'd be in our Common Room today, just to study a bit, you know, so they wouldn't follow us. Can I come into your Common Room? Please? I could wear a spare robe of yours!"

I was surprised. No student had ever attempted to go into another Common Room before! I agreed nervously and Amelia grinned, grabbed my arm, and ran towards the castle. I showed her the way, making sure we weren't being followed, and approached the Fat Lady.

"Codswallop!" I called, but she squinted at us suspiciously. "But you are with a Ravenclaw!" she replied in her shrill, fruity voice. "Nonsense," I replied. "she's a Gryffindor! She's just wearing different robes! Now open the door or I'll report you being faulty and not letting us in to Dumbledore!"

The door swung open, and the Fat Lady looked very afraid. Even Amelia looked scared. "Wow," she said. "You can be pretty scary when you're mad!" I laughed and told her I wasn't mad, I was just convincing her to let us in. She laughed as well, muttering that she knew why I'd been put into Gryffindor, and opened her bag, revealing lots of craft materials. We started making the card.

I did all the neat, crafty stuff while she did all the spell casting and charm work, until the singing valentine was finally finished! The glitter love heart flashed from red to pink and then a blinding silver, and it had a picture of Harry right in the middle, which I'd cut out from The Daily Prophet. It was supposed to be quite funny, so the song it sang was sort of comical, mentioning that his eyes are the same color as a toad, but I hoped he'd find it romantic too.

Just then, Hermione came in! Oh no! Amelia was there, and so was the card! I grabbed it, shoved it in my bag, turned around to tell Amelia to g - but she had disappeared! She wasn't anywhere to be seen! With too little time to worry, I jumped onto an armchair just as Hermione came through. "Oh, hi Ginny! Wait . . . Why have you got multicolored glitter all over your face? And why are there heart shaped cut-outs all over the table?"

Rats. I'd forgotten about the glitter fight me and Amelia had had . . . "Are you . . . Making a valentine?" she asked. "Umm, maybe," I replied. I really was a bad liar! She grinned and said "It's Harry, right? I mean, the way you look at him . . ."

"Is it really that obvious?" I asked. She said that if it's your best friend, then yeah, you notice things like that. I laughed nervously, thinking if I should tell her about the Chamber Of Secrets, but I had a feeling Amelia was close by, and I didn't want to tell her just yet. She would be terrified! Me and Hermione chatted about Harry for a while, and I showed her the valentine, which she laughed at, proving it was funny! Of course, after a while she realized she needed to go to the library, so I decided to climb up to my dorm for at least ten minutes of peace! I was half way up, when I heard a noise behind me. "Owwww!" it shouted.

The stairs below me turned into a slide and the thing (which I still couldn't see) went tumbling down, cursing. It revealed itself when it landed downstairs with a big "bonk!" and became visible. "Amelia!" I laughed! "Oww," she stated. "I never knew the curse on the stairs worked for girls from other houses as well! I thought it would only do that if a boy tried to go up!" I laughed again and ran back down, checking if she was alright. I asked her how she turned invisible and she showed me a complex disguise spell her parents had taught her which, to be honest, was way above our level of knowledge. I praised her though, realizing how she magically appeared on the stands when I was watching Harry, and how she got to Hagrid's hut before me. She was walking with me the whole time, but started running as fast as she could and made herself visible when I turned away to look behind me.

We had a good laugh, and when the bell went, we rushed out and into our next classes, waiting for the day to finally come.
