16. Movie Day

The next week passed in a blur.

Christmas Eve dinner at John’s parents house also included all of John’s siblings, (He had two brothers and a sister) as well as their children. One in particular, named Francis, wouldn’t stop touching my arm and brushing his leg against mine at the dinner table. Let’s just say I was beyond creeped out because we were practically family by marriage.

Christmas Day I was awoken by Kameron jumping on me, yelling in my ear that it was indeed Christmas, in case I had forgotten for some reason.

As we all sat around the family room, opening presents, I couldn’t be happier. From mum and John I had received the new Furla bag I wanted, a new pair of leather boots, a couple shirts as well as a sweater, and assorted small things.

Kam got the new camera she wanted and a multitude of accessories that went with it.

Later that day Kameron and I called our father to wish him a Merry Christmas and he asked us how our trip was going. He assured us as he usually did that he would be there to pick us up from the airport on the 4th.

The days leading up to New Years were spent either working or sitting in front of the TV watching all the different British television shows that we didn’t have at home.

By the time New Years Eve rolled around, I was laying on the couch watching a movie with Kam. Our mother had to run into the boutique to make a last minute change to a wedding dress for a bride who was getting married tonight and John had gone to see his sister who was heavily pregnant.

“Are you getting hungry yet?” I asked Kam as I poked her in the ribs with my toe.

“Yeah! Pop in some chicken fingers?” she pleaded, pausing the movie to look at me. “And maybe some popcorn too?”

I laughed and rolled my eyes. “Yes, your majesty.”

Jumping off the couch, I walked over to the kitchen and turned the oven on while putting the popcorn in the microwave.

When I turned back to look at Kam to ask what she wanted to drink, she was talking admittedly on the phone, waving her arms to get my attention. I held up my finger in a ‘one minute’ salute before placing the chicken fingers in the oven and shaking the fresh popcorn into a bowl.

“Yeah, here she is,” Kam smiled, handing me the phone in exchange for the popcorn.

“Who is it?” I asked, before putting the phone to my ear, but Kam just laughed.

“Hello?” I said into the phone.

“So, dancing around in your pyjama’s is the new thing?” said the all too familiar voice.

“Ha, funny,” I said to Harry, shoving Kam off the couch, who just continued to laugh.

“I hope you were dancing to my music,” Harry said.

“I wasn’t even dancing,” I said, shooting Kam a glare. “I was making the brat some lunch. She’s just a big fibber.”

“Ooooh, getting defensive now, are we?”

I laughed at his cheeky words. “You’re interrupting movie day, I thought I was seeing you later.”

“You are, pretty lady, but I just wanted to tell you the details.”

“You couldn’t have texted them to me?”

“No,” he said. “I thought phoning you would be better. The sound of your voice always calms me down.”

“Good to know that’s all I’m good for!”

“Now,” said Harry, backpedalling. “Your good at other things too.”

“Harry, just get on with it!” I heard someone scream from the background.

“Who was that?” I asked, confused.

A second later, Harry yelled back. “Shut up, Louis!”

When Harry spoke again it was to me and in a calmer and quieter voice. “Sorry, the lads are over helping me get ready for tonight.”

I stifled a giggle. “That’s alright.”

“So I’ll pick you and Kam up at 9? That way you can get here before everyone and re-introduce yourself to the boys.”

“That sounds perfect. We’ll be ready.”

“See you then, Courtney.”

“Make sure you have the nametags, Harry.”

I heard him laugh as I hung up the phone. I turned to Kam who smiled at me sheepishly before she sat on the couch next to me.

“Do you think he will kiss you tonight?” she asked, raising her eyebrows suggestively.

I replied by mushing a pillow onto her face. When I removed it, she was smiling.

“I think that means you hope he will.”
