32. "So Can You"

"So he kissed you?"

"And you like him?"

"Of course I do..."

"So what are you panicking about?"

"I'm just worried that he'll lose interest in me. There's nothing special about me. He could have any girl in the world? Why would he choose me? What if he finds someone else-"

Rachel interrupted me. "Woah woah woah, hold your horses! You're over thinking this whole thing. He kissed you -that means that he likes you, stop panicking."

"No buts Rosie. Just because he's a member of One Direction and has links with most of the celebrity world, that does not mean that he wants one of them. He kissed you because he obviously likes you."

"I guess..."

"Look at Liam and Louis, are their girlfriends in the industry?"

Her point was fair "No..."

"Right, so please stop worrying Rosie. You guys are so perfect for each other." She suddenly gave a small laugh "You don't even realise the effect you have on him..." I had no idea what she meant but trusted her knowledge.

"You're right, I guess. Go and have some fun, sorry for interrupting the party."

"Don't be, that's what friends are for. Remember the night of the concert?" Yes, she did exactly the same to me when she found out about her cheating boyfriend. "Enjoy your night with the boys."

"I will, you have fun too."

"I wish -I'd rather be with you lot. There's just a load of Asian family, and kids around my age, who are too stuck up to even talk to me." I laughed "Speaking of Asian family I can see a certain mother approaching now, later Rose."

"Bye, don't miss me too much." I laughed and we both hung up.

I was leaning against the metal balcony, looking at the midnight blue sky and collecting my thoughts.

I was only worrying because I liked Niall so much; I didn't want either of us to come out the other end of this unspoken relationship feeling hurt or disappointed. It meant I cared. That could only be positive, right?

I stepped back through the floor length windows, onto the cushioned sill, where I nearly tripped over Liam. "Hey missy, done calling people now?" I wondered if he had heard what I said -I didn't mind if he did, I just wondered.

"Yeah, Rach says hi."

"Where is she today?"

"Had to go out to some family party that she isn't enjoying one bit."

"Poor thing." He laughed to himself.

I dropped down onto the cushions, and pushed myself back so that I was sitting against the opposite wall as I pulled my knees into me and smiled. "So I never got to ask you how the anniversary surprise was?"

"Oh it was good. Sophia really enjoyed it!" He looked a bit disappointed. "I couldn't get out of the interview though, so I had to take her for lunch instead."

I smiled sweetly and surveyed the room as he remembered something. "Oh yeah, she loved the outfit! Everything was perfect. Do you want to see a picture?" I nodded and leaned towards him as he searched for it on his phone.

There she was standing next to Liam, in the reception of a fancy restaurant with black and white tiles beneath their feet. "She looks gorgeous!"

"I know! She couldn't understand how I had gotten everything to perfectly fit her and suit her style." He looked at me and I couldn't help but feel proud that my work had made the two of them so happy. It was only a small gesture but I could tell he really appreciated it.

"Did you tell her about me?"

"Yes! She said she'd like to get to know you, I told her about your love for shopping so I think she's convinced you'll both get on really well."

"That sounds like fun." I was excited that I would get the opportunity to meet Liam's girlfriend. If she was anything like him then I knew that we'd get on well too. He put his phone away and I but my lip as I wondered how to word my next question. "Liam?" he looked me straight in the eyes "Was it hard when you first started dating Sophia? I mean, she wasn't a celebrity was she?"

No." He thought for a while as I picked some fluff off of my socks, "Noone knew her but it wasn't hard." I looked up, waiting for him to expand on his answer. We were both talking quietly, as the others shouted ridiculous things at each other on the Xbox and Lola giggled hysterically, trying not to make ourselves heard over the noise. "It took a while for her to get used to the fans and the cameras -stuff like that- but they appreciated that we needed some space in the early stages of our relationship."

I watched Niall who was play fighting  with Harry; trying to distract him from the game so that his character would die "At the end of the day, we had a lot of support from the fans, and now Sophia loves them just as much as I do. They help her with advice and she says its like having an extended family."

He back tracked quickly. "Alright, yeah there was some trouble at first with people- some of them even fans- who were jealous of us, but that's just what separates the 'fangirls' and our 'real fans'." I nodded along and felt him put a hand on one of my knees. His voice was now a whisper "I heard what you said to Rachel. You have nothing to worry about Lola, Niall isn't a player. He's just a boy who's really deserving of a break and a girl who loves him for who he is. Whatever happens you have nothing to worry about because Niall will get you through it."

As if on cue, Niall felt my heavy stare on him and smiled at me before looking back to the game.

"Thanks Li." I felt like a weight had been lifted from my chest and I looked back at him to giving him a grateful smile.

"It was the same for Sophia, Eleanor and Perrie -before she went big- so if they all got through it, then so can you." He gave me a squeeze of his hands and signalled that our conversation was over, for now, as he got up to call out to the boys that it was his turn now.

Justin threw his controller to him and Liam, who caught it one-handed and plopped himself of the soft rug on the floor at the end of my bed.

I liked Liam, he was a reassuring and wonderful person, and what made me even more comfortable was that I now knew that I could refer to him as a friend. He was there if I needed him and I vowed to myself that I'd play the same role in his life, as he would play in mine.
