140. Kiss Without Permission

Niall just got back this afternoon, and although he looks exhausted from the journey, he’s decided to take me out for a drink and some dinner. I waited at his apartment all afternoon until Thom finally picked him up from the train station and he eventually walked out of the elevator and into his lat. I had originally told him that I’d drive over here once he arrived, so things got a little bit crazy -as you can imagine- after I ran out from his bedroom and completely surprised him by jumping into his arms.

No matter how embarrassing it is to admit it, the two whole hours we spent in each other’s arms on the sofa, thanking each other for our amazing Christmas presents, did not go wasted.

Niall has just taken the elastic out of my hair, running his hands through it softly as I click my locket open and closed -staring at the two beautiful pictures- when he turns to me quickly, a smile jumping into place on his now-red lips from my lip stick. “I’m going to take you out tonight.”

“You are?”

“Yep. I’ve just decided, that alright?”

“Sure. Where are we going?”

“Um… I haven’t figured that bit out yet.”

“Great plan.” I laugh as he lovingly rests his head on the top of my chest again, just below my collar bones. I run my hand trough the back of his hair. It will need highlighting again soon, but I love it like this -platinum blonde tips with much darker roots that give away his natural hair colour.

“Do you know any good pubs around yours?”

“Yeah, but what’s the definition of good?”

“Nice place to sit. Maybe some good food?” Of course there'd need to be food.

“Yeah, okay. I know a place. It’s about 10 minutes from mine, but Carla’s properly moving in today, so we can’t go back to mine after.”

“We can come back here then princess.” He takes my hand and plays with my fingers.

“You’re being super cute today. Are you sure you’re okay? Not too tired are we?”

“No. I just missed you and you make me really happy.”

“Aww!” I coo - giggling slightly as I try to wipe the lipstick stains off of his lips. They won’t budge, but after rubbing a little bit harder with my thumb they start to disappear.

“Oww.” He complains, moving my hand away.

“Someone’s all soft and unmanly.” I giggle, teasing him.

“No,” he laughs. “But I never get to wear lipstick so let me be.”

“Softy!” I sing to him and he massages my fingers in between his own.

“Sh. The locket looks pretty by the way.”

“It’s not pretty, it’s amazing.” I smile, leaving a pair of red lips on his temple.

“Aw, no don’t. Now I’m gonna have to have a shower.”

“You need one anyway.”

“Very true.” He laughs. “Okay, well I’m going to have a shower, see if anyone’s home after Christmas and give whoever isn’t here a call.”

“You missing your boys?”

“Yeah.” He pouts innocently.

“Well I’m gonna go home and get ready then.”

“When do you want picking up?”

“Surprise me.” I say kissing his cheek, and collecting my car keys. “Actually don’t. Pick me up at 7.” Knowing Niall he’ll take advantage of me giving him that freedom and turn up at my house before I’ve even gotten out of the shower.

“Okay, see you later Roselyn.” I shoot a warning glare at him before he winks and I’m pulled away by the closing elevator doors.

“So who’s back in London?” I ask as Niall holds the pub’s doors open for me.

“Liam and Sophia are back. So are Zayn and Perrie.” That surprises me. Zayn and Perrie were the two people who were supposed to be staying away for the longest.

“And how’s everyone else?”

“Yeah, by the sounds of it they’re all well.”

“That’s good.” We’ve been talking the whole cab journey here about our own Christmases and I’ve already heard so many little stories about Theo and any cute things he’s done: the first time he stood up in front of Niall and the time they thought he said his first word but it just turned out to be a weird sounding laugh were two of my favourites. Sometimes I don’t even care what it’s about, I just love being able to hear Niall talk about something passionately –in this case, his baby nephew.

“What do you want to drink?”

“Just get me a coke.” I smile, leaning into him affectionately before going off to find the two of us a table. There was a large queue at the bar, so I find a small booth near the back of the pub and patiently wait as I check my messages. Nope, no new messages. I should probably check on how Rachel’s doing.

I’ve just opened up a new message when someone takes the seat in front of me. I ignore them in the hopes that they’ll go away before Niall gets back, but I can sense their eyes on mine. “What?” I ask, finally looking up in annoyance. I recognize them and fight the urge to roll my eyes. Of course, it would have had to be him.

“What do you want?”

“That’s not very nice.” The boy pouts, giving me a really cheeky and overly dramatic wink.

“Yeah, well the last time I saw you, you were pissing me off and swinging on your chair to talk to me and show off in front of your friends in class.”

“So you do remember me.” He grins with all of his teeth and lays his forearms on the table.

“Yes. As the annoying year 11 who’s got a bigger ego than his own head.”

“Hey…” he feints offense, wrapping his arms around his head. “I don’t have that big a head do I?” I raise an eyebrow. “Okay, forget that, but you can’t even remember my name?”

“Why would I want to?” I ask in distaste.

“Come on –people talk about you being clever. I thought you’d have remembered.”

“Jace.” I admit, although I wish I didn’t remember.

“Rosie.” His smile is unwavering, even though I haven’t returned it once.

“People talk about me saying that I’m clever?” I ask, trying to figure out if what he said is true or just a way of pushing me to admit I remember him.

“Well… that and other things.” Just as I was starting to give him a chance, he rakes his eyes the whole way from my eyes, down to the furthest point of my cotton dress that he can see before the table gets in the way.

“Excuse me?”

“But we don’t need to talk about that.” He smiles again, raising his arms in defense.

“Yeah, you’re right. We don’t. So please just fuck off before my boyfriend gets here.”

“You’re here with him?” He asks, turning around towards the bar in interest. Niall has his back turned to us thankfully. There’s no reason to worry, this boy is harmless, but I really don’t want to be associated with this immature kid who’s two years younger than me.

“And how many people here do you think would recognize the two of you?”

“A fair few… He’d obviously be recognized more than me.” I state, squinting at Jace, trying to figure out what he’s up to.

“How did you even get in here?” I say, remembering that he’s probably not allowed in here, being only 15 or 16.

“My family live here. We own this pub.”

“Great.” I sigh, internally smacking myself in the head for choosing this pub. “Can you go now?” I ask, indicating to the direction that will lead him out of the booth.

“That depends.”

“On what?” I sigh, making it obvious that I’m extremely tired of his childish games now.

“Just give me a smile and I’ll go. Just one.” He turns his head to the side and flicks his eyes across the pub quickly, but by now I couldn’t care any less. He can have a bloody smile if that’s all it will take to get rid of him so that I can enjoy a nice evening with my boyfriend.

I flash my teeth, leaving my eyes dead and expressionless, but just as I’m gesturing for him to go -yet again- Jace takes my hand and uses it to pull me towards him, over the table, as he grips one hand on my cardigan and the other on the back of my neck.

It takes a few, very long seconds to figure out that Jace is trying to kiss me, his mouth searching an opening between my tightly closed lips and my eyes widen to double their size.

What the fuck?
