13. Drama

Once we had finished talking about Rachel's -in my opinion disastrous- love life, Lola happened to pull up the topic of last night. What a surprise! I laughed to myself sarcastically.

Rachel seemed really interested and I was glad that I wasn't having to tell the story that even I had problems coming to terms with, so as Monkey chirped away about it to yet another person, I dragged my feet behind them paying attention to nothing in particular apart from the pavement and the way that Lola was explaining it. I put myself in a strangers shoes. The way that she was describing Niall's eyes meeting mine across the stage and him finding me after the concert sounded like something out of a teenage fairy tale.

Lola didn't know much about what went on between us, so she just skipped on to the parts she did now.  I could tell that Rachel was staring at me and asking me questions but I was in my own little world as I tapped away in my shoes down the streets so Lola decided to tell Rach, instead, about her experiences with Zayn.

Rach knew how much she loved him so listened patiently while I wandered idly behind them. Lola had told her most things whilst I was daydreaming, so once we had walked over the school premises and waved Monkey off to maths with her friends Rachel clicked her fingers in front of my face while laughing "You awake now sweetie? Daydreaming were we?"

"Something like that." I giggled; embarrassed at my exhibition of irrational emotion.

"It doesn't matter, I'm glad I got to talk about it with Lola or I don't think I'd have believed you..." She looked at me again "or even gotten it out of you for that matter! It happened right after I got off the phone right?"

"You couldn't have said it any better. It was literally just as I pressed the button to end the call." She was listening to my every word and as I watched her now, I realised just how huge an impact this information had had on her, for the first time this morning.

Rachel's eyes were still and wide but looking nowhere in particular and her mouth was hanging open ever so slightly in the shape of a small letter 'o' -as I probably looked multiple times last night- while we walked down the corridor to drama. She was shocked. Poor girl. Not only did she find out that her boyfriend had been cheating on her yet again, but she had also found out that her best friend had been conversing with the world's largest boy band, shortly before the cute one -that most teenage girls were crushing on- decided he was interested in her and wanted her number.

I still felt just as shocked on the inside, as she looked on the outside. "Rachel, are you sure everything's okay?"

"Mmmhm." I put my arm around her shoulders, unconvinced when she started chattering away quickly to either herself or myself; I couldn't be sure which. "I mean, it's not like my boyfriend has been cheating on me and my bestfriends practically dating one direction but, you know, that's totally normal, I mean why wouldn't it be? Everything's great... Great! Yep I'm sure everything will be okay. My best friend will go on to live her fairy tale life, while me and Miles battle it out forever, in our crappy little reality world. That's cool. I don't mind. Not at all! Everything's okay. Great in fact! Brilliant!"

Her little outburst frightened me a bit and I was about to change our route to the school nurses' office when she finally diverted her eyes from empty space to mine and I calmed down a bit. Some people might have been angry if put in my position. However, I wasn't. She had said everything that I had been thinking and even if it wasn't me to say it, I felt relieved that Rachel had.

She finally came back to life as we were standing outside the drama studios and she swung her arms around my neck tightly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean any of that. I needed to get it all out of my system. I feel better now! I'm sorry, I won't do it again."

"Don't worry, I feel the same way. I needed to hear that! Like, I really needed to hear that." I buried my head into her straight black hair and she did the same into mine. This was why we were best friends. We understood each other and never jumped to conclusions like, I could have done very easily just now.

"Just so you know, I hope that whatever is between you and Niall carries on!" She smiled at me as we walked into the drama studio, placed our bags at the side and went to sit down together in the middle of the floor space.

"I don't know what it is but it has to be something for him to get my number right?"

"Of course..."

"What?" I asked her, confused about what had caused her to trail off.

"Nothing... Actually... I just wanted to tell you something that I've been hiding from you..."

"What?" I laughed light-heartedly.

"Don't laugh... I actually really like One Direction as a boy band."I smiled waiting for the secret. "That's it." She said waiting for my answer.

"Oh that's good, they're actually a really nice and genuine group of boys! Plus they act as if they've been good mates as long as we have! They're so cool Rach! I wish we could all be friends! Could you imagine!?"

"Omfg. What's happened to the anti-fangirl and boy-bands-suck Rosie?"

"She's a changed person." I wink at Rach and she looked so taken aback that it made me start giggling. "Rach close your mouth. It's gaping open..."

She did as I said. "I just can't believe..." She gave a nervous laugh before shouting "NIALL FUCKING HORAN ASKED FOR-" more and more people were coming into class now, and she was drawing in attention, so I made a death signal for her to shut up "-my best friend's fucking number!" Rachel finishes on a whisper and I smirked at her obedience.

"Do you understand how lucky you are? Do you?!" I smiled sheepishly and looked away. "You don't even understand do you?! So many millions of girls would give up their lives to get to be in the position that you are in!"

"I know..."

"Then how are you still managing to act like everything's normal?!"

"Because it is all still normal! He may not even contact me Rach..."

I looks away as she mutters "Unlikely..." And I hope for my own sake that she's right.
